some rain drops on the golden gate bridge this afternoon, but much more could be on the way tomorrow. good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm eric thomas. dion lim is off tonight. we saw a little bit of rain move through parts of the area today. if you thought we were done, uh-uh, could be a soggy christmas eve. meteorologist drew tuma joins us now with a first look at the weather. >> and we are tracking downpours this afternoon and into the evening. what we saw today was just a taste of what's to come. i want to widen out the picture, combine it with satellite and there's our storm system off the coast. this will move onshore over the next 24 hours and bring us some downpours on the storm impact scale for our christmas eve, it is a light storm but we will

heal. >> being fed well and it's kind of a break from the fifth wheel we're living right now. >> reporter: he and his family have been living in a camper. his 17-year-old son kaleb says just being here is a nice break from the camp fire's constant drain on their every day lives. >> it's just nice to have all these good things to think about and look forward to the next day and go and oo do whatever you want. >> reporter: the retreat is usually closed the week of christmas but this year they opened it up for the camp fire victims and most of the staff are volunteers. >> we have to volunteer. these people, it's devastating and we have to be with these people and help out. >> reporter: there's been free food, free clothes and a free place to stay and relax for a few days. today there were en free haircuts and massages. >> those things aren't really up in the front of the priority list, so just to get a haircut,

take a minute to relax and get a back massage is really nice. >> reporter: kaley elliot is a cancer survivor. she shows us this video of her burned down house. she has two disabled children and says she came here for them. >> to give my kids a bit of normal for christmas and wake up and have a real shower, i really appreciate this place for doing it for us. a woman who credits a paramedic for saving her life when she went into premature labor during the camp fire has named her baby after him. she was in the ambulance you see there. he even arranged a caravan including three police vehicles to rush skinner to that ambulance. she gave birth to the full term baby girl more than a month after the fire and named her zoel mickey skinner.

tsunami could have been caused by undersea land slides from the eruption. >> reporter: indonesia now dealing with the devastating aftermath of a deadly tsunami. the killer waves smashed onto indonesia's beaches at night without warning. the lead vocalist of a popular indonesian band that was performing when the wave hit now asking for prayers. several of his band mates were killed with his wife among the missing. the-air a popular tourist destination, many visiting the beaches there for the holidays. the tsunami possibly triggered by this vcall the eruption visible for miles. indonesia does not have a warning system. the systems rely on detecting earthquakes. scientists believe that this tsunami may have been triggered

by under water land slads. >> in this case there was no earthquake as such, so there was very little that could have been done in this case and it's just a tragic fact of nature. >> reporter: and said the huge tide may have been affected by the full moon making the devastation worse. hundreds of victims rushed to hmts in the area. rescuers sifted through the debris in search of survivors. >> and their priority is to make sure that those who survive this tsunami are looked after as well as to make sure that if there is anyone at all trapped in the rubble that they are rescued and brought to safety. >> reporter: police rescuing this 5-year-old boy who had been trapped under the rubble for hours. the president of indonesia expressing his condolences to the victims and asking everyone for patience as he ordered all government agencies to respond to the crisis. julia mcfarland abc news, london. new at 11:00 abc news has learned a morin county

supervisor has been arrested for driving under the influence and a hit-and-run. daniel conally was pulled over thursday night by san rafael police. he gave us a statement saying he was on his way home from a holiday gathering and used poor judgment. investigators say he hit a stop sign and took off. no one was hurt in that crash. san francisco police are investigating a fatal shooting last night. one man died in that shooting just before midnight. a neighbor arrived to find the street cordoned off by police. he says the victim was a driver for a tow truck company in daly city. >> he has a lot of friends but they all drive tow trucks, a young kid, 22, just bought the house a few months ago and he's got a wife and two kids. that's all i know about him. >> police have not released details about a possible suspect and it's not clear what led up to the shooting.

post. we've been talking about when the rain's going to be moving in and if it's going to be wet on christmas day. >> yeah, i don't think santa is going to have any problems. however, we are tracking downpours really moving into the second half of your day tomorrow. a lot of cloud cover on your christmas eve and a wet finish to the day. we're showing you the active scan across the region. and right now any showers we had earlier today, they are out of here. so earlier tonight it's a mainly quiet night and cloudy night. we take a look at your christmas eve planner, tomorrow morning it's a lot of cloud cover, most areas are dry. it's really into the afternoon and into the evening, by 5:00 it's not only rain, it's also wind picking up across the region. so we're going to track those downpours moving through about 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 in the evening. good news it's out of here before the day will end.

santa will have no problem delivering christmas presents. overnight tonight temperatures not going to fall too far where we are right now. a lot of cloud cover and perhaps an isolated shower popping up in the north bay. we're also tracking a coastal cs flooda advisory. the high tide near san francisco shortly before noon. so once again we may see some minor flooding close to the water. the storm impact scale on our christmas eve tracking those scattered storms and downpours. there is the isolated chance of a thundershower as bhecwell. light showers mainly focused in the north bay and along the coast. this front begins to move onshore during the afternoon. by 2:00 that's when we begin to track the downpours. pops of yellow and orange and red on your screenmism i think

by 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, this front is moving through the bay area. san francisco, oakland, livermore, we're tracking those downpours popping up. by 9:00, 10:00, that front is out of here. so behind it we turn to widely scattered showers and for christmas day itself it is a dry day, a bright day but it will be a breezy day tuesday morn mchg in terms of rainfall probably half an inch across the region. showers and downpours in the forecast. by 5:00 the temperature 56 degrees and by 9:00 cooling off to 51 degrees. in terms of winds by that 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 time frame the winds gusting likely 20 to 60 miles an hour and they slowly relax throughout your christmas day. mid-50s to low 60s, so i in t sierra. some fresh powder. it's not recommended you try and
