survivors after a deadly tsunami. >> the tsunami hit saturday night after a volcanic eruption. 281 people are dead. more than 1,000 were hurt when the waves crashed into the popular tourist destination. the tsunami was incredibly destructive. 600 homes and hotels were ripped from their foundations. soldiers right now are searching for survivors trapped under the wreckage. a 5-year-old boy was recently pulled from the rubble. now to that partial government shutdown. it can could drag into this next year. president trump wants at least $5 billion for a border wall. >> democrats are offering a lot less than that and just for border security, not for a wall. stephanie ramos has the latest developments from new york. >> reporter: president trump is skipping his 16-day florida vacation to stay in washington as the senate compromises on legislation to fund the government into the new year.

absolutely. let's talk about what's going on for today. a lot going on christmas eve. we have the raiders game, possibly the last game ever at the coliseum. let's focus on what this rain is going to do. san rafael is dry t. this is one of the areas that will get rain first. showers and lightning heavy at times today. freezing cold nights tuesday and wednesday night. sunny and dry and seasonal afternoon temperatures. temperatures around 56 to 06 this afternoon. at least that will be slightly comfortable. but got the rain coming. tonight we'll drop in the 30s in ukiah, napa, lake port. 50s around half moon bay and san francisco. here's a look the at our storm. quite a punch, but it is say very quick punch. and it brings us a chance of, here you go, thunderstorms of 65%. nearly two-thirds of the state. 7:00, you can see some of those lighter showers coming to shore. by 9:00 to noon, already yellows and oranges showing up.
