connie is in critical condition. firefighters believe they zeroed in on where this fire started but they don't know what started it. san francisco's fire chief came to the scene this christmas eve when she heard an elderly man died and his wife with was taken to the hospital. >> once i heard there was fatality i knew there would e family gathering here. it's something i wanted to come out and talk to them about. >> the division chief helped explain why the couple couldn't escape the fire from the third floor bathroom. -- bedroom. with the stairwell if it gets hot and smokey the best thing you can do is shut your door. i doesn't mean you won't exit through the normal so the windows would have been the only way for them to escape. it was not possible at this jue 10 a.m.

suspect is in custody after a standoff with police. officers were called to the mission district late last night. the suspect refused to come out of the home. the crisis hostage team was brought in. after several hours the suspect surrendered. he was taken into custody about 3:30 this morning. new overnight one person is dead following a firey crash. you can see here flames from the suv in this video. firefighters were called out on reports of a burning vehicle. it was about 1:00 this morning. officers then found a body in the overturned vehicle. the chply t move that00 a.m. christmas eve lead to a shortened trading day
