have now determined to be the cause of the tsunami. back here at home present d fstadythe attended christmas eve mass overnight at the national cathedral in washington. as the federal government enters its fourth day of a partial shutdown. now, the president is demanding funding for that border wall. his opponents in congress aren't expected back in town to negotiate a new deal until thursday. north korea h been ordered to pay half a billion dollars to the family of american student otto warmbier. but few expect north korea to actually pay. warmbier was accused of taking a propaganda poter while visiting the country. he died shortly after being returned home in a severe coma. meanwhile, president trump says he is looking forward to his next summit with north korean leader kim jong-un. christmas eve violence at a south florida mall ended with a police dog killed in the line of duty. sheriffs say the canine was shot chasing an attempted murder suspect in a mall parking lot in palm beach county.

deputies returned fire and shot the suspect who is nownder u arrest. overseas markets are down again after yesterday's historic loss on the dow nes. tomorrow with investors looking at treasury secretary steve seuchin's efforts to stop the inuing his battlent at trump is acoinst the federal reserve on twitter. and a reminder that tonight's mega millionsotkpac $. it hasn't been won since october 23rd. and some more money here, the powerball jackpot isn't far behind, tomorrow night's drawing will be worth at least $294 million. that's a whole lot of christmas presents. let's get a look at the weather with your local holiday forecast.

>> but why does cream cheese go so well with red velvet? >> it's like bread and butter. it goes together so good. i think the cream cheese is sweetness and a little bit of tart sets off the little bit of chocolate that you're supposed to get in red velvet. red velvet is half chocolate, half vanilla so this is what we're going to do here. we creamed our butter and sure. want to put the eggs in. >> you do it. >> i got it all, buddy. >> we'll put cocoa in there as well. i like that. going to put a little bit of baking powder. >> i'm help. >> i know you e.ar in there. >> you're such a helper. >> and pour this in to there. >> i n't w to get that suit i got . >> and we'll -- a little bit of baking soda. >> baking soda.

we are back with our christmas cookie bakeoff. buddy just shows us his red velvet cookie sandwiches which are judges really, really like but now his competitor jacques is up to the table. what are you going to make for us? >> so, i called santa yesterday and asked what is his favorite cookie. he told me chocolate chip cookies so i make them with more chocolate than flour so it's very simple. just mix everything together. >> get in there, nicole. >> everything together. we just put everything together. >>o yo havgeerth any. like secr ingredient? anything youhr tn iow is the se
