santa is heading back to the north pole. the rain is drying out. the skies are clearing up. instead of a white christmas, it's shaping up to be a bright christmas, but only one person has the answer about today's weather. good morning. it is christmas day, tuesday, december 25th. we've got the one and only, mike nicco. and you've got your santa claus tie on today. >> i do. it's an old one but it still works. >> i like it. it's working. >> you wore green. >> one day of the year i can wear green. >> unfortunately, i can't. yes, santa left a nice forecast in my stocking this morning. i picked it up.

in the south bay we're tracking a big police investigation under way in san jose. officers were called to lee and fruitdale avenues this morning. amanda de castillo is live at the scene. >> reporter: if you're unfamiliar, we're just across the street from sherman oaks elementary school in san jose. the black suv just pulled up blocking our view of a white car that went into a chain link fence. that fence is separating fruitdale and lee avenues from a children's play structure. we want to take you around the scene. dozens of evidence markers are scattered throughout the intersection leading up to that white car. a witness tells abc7 news there was a shooting involving police. this is information we're working to confirm with sjpd. we asked questions. this had to be a substantial incidence to warrant this amount of heavy police presence on

fruitdale avenue. we saw an officer knocking on neighbor's doors for information. several blocks along fruitdale are being roped off because of this investigation. new video just shared with abc7 news shows the amount gunfire erupted. the video shows san jose police officers at the intersection when shots were fired. details are limited but we're pushing san jose police for answers. >> thank you. turning now to the raiders. is this it? the raiders played their final home game of the season last night. it is looking like that was their final home game at the coliseum ever. the raiders beat the denver broncos 27-14 as reporter jobina is about to show you how every raider fan went

i've been loyal to the soil. i want them to stay here. i love the raiders. i've been a season ticketholder for ten years. >> reporter: the end of the game was marked with a dance on the dugout and fans tackled on the field. overall it seems the fan support will remain ever if the team doesn't. the raiders are slated to move to vegas in 2020. they don't have a lease for next year. reporting from the oakland coliseum, jobina fortson,fortso, news. it's unclear where the raiders will play next year. they ended negotiations after the city of oakland sued the team and the nfl over their decision to move to vegas. possible options for the team include playing at at&t park or levi stadium. they could also end up at another venue in vegas next year. happening today, glide memorial church in san francisco will serve a free christmas meal. anyone who shows up at the church on ellis at taylor

streets will be treated to lunch between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. it will include ham, turkey and all the fixings. the church will also hold a christmaservice starting at 10:00 with performances from the glide ensemble gospel choir and the change band. a memorial for former kgo radio host ray is set for next month in san francisco. the commonwealth club will hold a celebration of life in his honor on january 12th. among those inviteded to speak, his sons, former mayor willie brown and former kgo talk host ron owens. it will be open to the public, no reservations needed. he was found dead in kentucky last month. police say they don't suspect foul play in his death. pg&e has restored power to thousands of customers in the east bay. this photo shows a dark night in east oakland last night. that light you see there in the distance is the coliseum, which was not impacted by the power outage.

let's talk temperatures. if you're getting up right now, mid to upper 40s in our east bay valleys and around the bay we have upper 40s to low 50s. notice what's happening up in the north bay where the clouds are clearing quicker and the dryer, cooler air moving in. 38, santa rosa, 41 in napa right now. those temperatures are running anywhe anywhere 12 degrees cooler than average. it's going to look nice outside with a whole lot of sunshine but we'll top out in the mid to upper 50s in the south bay.

now inside the organization's central christmas on harrison street. volunteers will hand-deliver more than 4,000 meals to seniors and people who can't leave their homes because of illness. this year's meal consists of ham, potatoes, hot cocoa. volunteers will begin delivering the food in about an hour. more than 2 million californians who have been issued a real id will need to file more paperwork. the department of homeland security is telling the dmv the process is inadequate. that means anyone with a real id will have to submit a second document. if you don't want to go back to the dmv, the department is working to let you submit information online or by mail. you won't have to do it until your lps is up for renewal in five years, according to "the sacramento bee." that mean it's valid until then. it will be needed to board planes or enter federal

buildings. ski season gets in full swing. a california judge has blocked a controversial measure which limits the number of people who can stay in vacation rentals. according to "the sacramento bee" voters narrowly passed measure t. it limits short-term vacation rentals in south lake tahoe with two people per bedroom. it will ban all short-term vacation rentals in all neighborhoods outside downtown south lake lake tahoe. a judge has issued a restraining order on the new lawsuit because of a pending lawsuit. santa spent all night deliver gifts to boys and girls, but before the trip he took a short trip to the florida keys. that was santa spotted near scuba diving near key largo. he rode an underwater sled with to faux antlers. it was a beautiful christmas day in s sydney australia.

trump's ongoing criticism of the federal reserve are being blamed for another down day on wall street. lana zak has more on the negotiations over the christmas holiday. >> reporter: overnight president trump attended church with the first lady at the national cathedr cathedral. the president planned to spend christmas at his florida resort, mara lago but remained in washington because of the shutdown. instead of taking christmas calls from children, the president said this. >> nothing new. except we need border security. >> reporter: lawmakers are due back in town thursday to resume negotiations on government funding. the biggest sticking point, the president's desire for u.s. taxpayers to contribute $5 billion to a border wall. on monday the president summoned homeland security officials to the white house but not before launching a slew of tweets airing his grievances with democrats, some republicans and dough parting members of the administration. at one point writing, i'm all

abc7 news was on naples street as they gathered evidence from the victim's home. police identified 22-year-old jonathan escobar as the suspect. they arrested him yesterday morning following a three-hour standoff. in the east bay, some holiday cheer for people impacted bhi the camp fire. the francisan friars is hosting 38 families, including children and pets. they're letting the families stay for one week providing meals, wi-fi and fun activities. all guest bedrooms are full. today there will be a christmas mass and then santa will visit bringing presents and a puppet show. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. you request see the cooler air rolling into the north bay in the wake of yestday's potent rainmaker. i think it lived up to the proclamation we made on the storm impact scale. we see cooler air infiltrate the

county sheriff thanksing bakersfield officer michael crow. >> some officers were working 16 to 20 hours straight, helping other people and making sure everyone was getting evacuated safely. at the same time, their houses were being burnt down and they literally had nothing. >> reporter: officer crow says when he was told officers who had lost everything were sharing uniforms, it motivated him to want to help. he reached out to the company that makes first responder uniforms to see if they could help. >> i was kind of telling them all the stories and everything that was kind of going on. and they agreed to donate about 10 to $15,000 worth of new uniforms for those hundred-plus officers that lost everything. we were able to donate boots, pants, socks and new shirts for them. >> reporter: yesterday he went to chico to inform the nine different agencies about the generous donations. this video was from the private event. officer crow says he felt a

sense of duty and wanted to help. the same kind of help he's received in the past from first responders. six years ago a day before he start his new job as a police officer, crow was hit by a distracted driver while on his motorcycle. his right leg had to be camp tated. he is now one of a few dozen amputee officers across the nation. he says there's a real sense of brotherhood in the force. when one responder is down, there are others there to pick him up. >> i just feel like i'm one person that was able to use whatever resources i had to help them and kind of give back. >> reporter: he's doing just that. he says the donated uniforms should arrive in the next few weeks. in the south bay it's your last chance to experience christmas in the park. the annual holiday tradition in san jose normally ends january 1st but organizers are taking down the decorations early this year to prepare for the college

football championship game. christmas in the park will be open from 9:00 this morning until midnight. you can watch that national championship game on our sister station espn. of course, levi stadium is where it's all going down monday, january 7th. happening now, the salvation army is preparing thousands of christmas meals for people in need. here's a live look inside the organization's central kitchen on harrison street. volunteers will hand-deliver more than 4,000 meals to seniors and people who can't leave their homes because of illness. this year's meal consist of ham, sweet toe pate toes, fruit, hot cocoa and cookies. the kitchen is placing the finishing touches on the packages right now. volunteers will begin delivering the food within the hour. hundreds of volunteers across san francisco served christmas eve meals to those who are homeless or financially struggling. abc7 news was in the tenderloin district at glide where nearly 100 volunteers served 3,000 holiday lunches yesterday.

it will benefit registered nurses, culinary arts and hospitality. it's named after clark, alumni of ccsf. it did not snow in sacramento but a snowman is the talk of the town this morning. this showed up in the middle of the night in front of a coffee shop. people stopped by all day yesterday taking pictures of the mysterious and a little shoddy snowman. a coffee shop employee says she teamed up. one of santa's helpers to make it happen. >> i wanted to give sacramento something they've never seen, snow. so you've got some snow and the snowman and a little miracle on christmas for you. >> she says someone brought the snow down from south lake tahoe. a special shout out to old coffee for pulling off that k s christmas miracle. >> a snowman out of his natural climate, he's looking pretty

wednesday and thursday. mid-50s for friday and saturday. mid to upper 50s sunday and monday with a few more clouds but they will not yield any rain. have a good one. here's alexis. >> thank you, mike. baby jesus statue stolen from a church in hoboken in the 1930s is back home this christmas eve. jim hofer from our sister station in new york has the story. >> reporter: for nearly 90 years the statue of baby jesus has gone missing from the nativity at our lady of grace church in hoboken. the stolen statue will now rest in the box it was shipped back in, so mysteriously a few months ago. >> since it came in what looks like a manger, it's almost the paper is like hay, a little authentic to keep it that way because that's how it was returned to us. >> reporter: returned in a box shipped from florida with an anonymous letter stating it had been stolen in the 1930s and should be returned to its rightful owner. long-time parishioner says the return of the stolen plaster statue all these years later
