two-hour forecast, 8:00, 10:00 and midnight, skies will remain clear. temperature here in the city dropping down to about 41 degrees, 41 in the inland areas, close to 40 in fact, feeling colder than that because of the strong wind. near the bay and the coast we will see temperatures in the low to mid 40s at that hour. that is what it will be like for the fireworks display. i will show you what to expect beyond that in a few minutes. dan and kristen. >> spencer, thank you. so the wind has calmed somewhat since this morning, but it is still whipping in downtown san francisco. it presented some challenges for the crews preparing for the fireworks for tonight's new year's eve show. "abc 7 news" reporter jobina fortson is live on the embarcadero with a look for us. jobina. >> reporter: it is still rather breezy down here as you mentioned, kristen, but not enough to stop the show. it will go on at midnight, but it was quite a process to get everything set up. the wind was out in full force along the embarcadero new year's

eve whether you liked it -- >> it is fine. we're from scotland. >> reporter: or not. >> it is crazy. >> reporter: it is the kind of wind that won't let your hair stay in place, or a barge loaded with pounds of fireworks in the bay. >> it is a bit windier than normal, chop pi i guess you would say. our barge, our launch platform is moving around quite a bit. >> reporter: jeff thomas and his team are pushing through the elements. >> so the racks over here, these are the orange ones, those are five-inch. >> reporter: they're getting the fireworks ready to blast over the embarcadero for the big new year's eve show. the barge is rocking enough to get someone motion sickness. thomas says they may use two boats instead of one to hold it in place about 1,000 feet out from pier 14. >> we coordinate with the coast guard. we want to keep it in that position. it is the optimal position. if we feel we need to move it because of the wind, then we'll do so. >> reporter: thomas says wind shouldn't impact the 15-minute show that is set to feature around

free to bay area residents with bands, cheerleaders and lots of activities. in san jose, david louie, "abc 7 news." new developments. pg&e has responded to questions about its role in the deadly camp fire in butte county. a federal judge ordered the utility to provide, quote, an accurate and complete statement of the role, if any, of pg&e in causing the wildfire. the first flames fire crews spotted were directly under an active pg&e high tension power line. pg&e released a statement a short time ago saying it will post its response on the corporate website shortly. the state attorney general says pg&e could face criminal charges if it is found responsible for starting the wildfire. more than one year after the north bay fires, home owners in the fire zone are still getting notices that their fire insurance is being cancelled. >> insult to injury, right? "7 on your side" michael finney is here searching for solutions to try to help those folks out. >> we hear about thiste often. the state legislature recently passed a bill protecting

homeowners from such cancellations for one year after a state of emergency is declared. but as we have learned in the past, after one year, anything can happen. jackie and chaum enjoy life in the secluded town of occidental. he is a retired firefighter for alameda county. >> if it is going to byrne, it is going to burn. if the weather is right, it is going to go. >> reporter: liberty mutual sent them a notice their homeowner's insurance would not be renewed after 30 years. it is the second cancellation notice they received from liberty mutual in one year's time. >> i didn't want to have to go through this again. i just wanted thibe settled. >> reporter: both times they contacted "7 on your side" and we contacted liberty. each time liberty agreed to reinstate them, but this this w than likely happen to you again

next year. >> reporter: liberty mutual also cancelled the policy of this homeowner in forestville. like them, this was the second straight year liberty tried to cancel her policy. she asked us not to use her name. each time liberty backed off after "7 on your side" contacted them. despite being renewed, both homeowners in this story worked with a broker to find another insurance carrier but at a higher rate. christopher mccloy runs a company which connects consumers to insurance brokers. >> it really doesn't matter what you have done individually on your home to mitigate your danger. if the insurance company doesn't like the risk for that entire area, you are being non-renewed. >> reporter: the whole situation irritates tom. >> to be able to pick and because we're in a fire area, it just doesn't seem appropriate.

there's got to be some margin in there. if you want to raise the rates, fine. but to completely cancel? >> reporter: as we mentioned, a new law bars insurance companies from cancelling homeowners' insurance for one year after a state of emergency is declared. that gives homeowners time to make other arrangements and insure insures a policy won't be cancelled before a claim is paid. liberty mutual tells us its policy has not changed since it gave us this upcoming statement a year ago. unfortunately, due to california's significant wildfire exposure, we have taken the difficult but necessary step to responsibly manage our overall exposure to wildfire. this strategy is necessary to safeguard our ability to pay policyholders' homeowner claims. >> more to come on this. >> yes. >> thanks, michael. >> thank you, michael, very much. all right. it is windy and cold out there. >> yes. so bundle up if you are heading out to see fireworks. here is spencer with more on the

wind. >> that's good advice. it will be a clear skies so you will see the fireworks but it will be chilly and windy. here is a lookt live doppler 7. you can see clear skies with hardly a cloud around. a nice view from sutro tower, matter of farkt. currently readings are in the low 50s in san francisco, oakland, mountain view and san jose and morgan hill, which is below 50 at 49 degrees. here is the view at half moon bay where it is calm, chilly and breezy as most locations are right now. in fairfield we have low 50s in concord and livermore. one more live view from our camera. you can see the breeze blowing on the embarcadero. window and chilly with gusty d with the in the higher temperatures dropping down to or below freezing. a chance of rain developing this weekend under milder conditions. a wind advisory is in effect for

the bay area mountains and hills, elevations above 1,000 feet until 10:00 tomorrow morning. gusts could reach 70 miles per hour in the higher elevations. that, of course, could produce down trees, power lines and even power outages. until 9:00 tonight the wind advisory is in effect for the bay shoreline, coastal areas and most low-lying areas, even in those areas it will be gusty and chilly. here is the wind gust animation taking us into the late night hours. around midnight or so, we will see gusts between 25 to 30 miles per hour in many locations. overnight we will see an increase in wind in some spots, especially towards the delta around fairfield or so. but as we get into the mid morning hours approaching midday, we will see the wind tapering off and silgettling in most locations but still breezy. overnight lows dropping into the low to mid 30s in the inland valleys including the south bay. around the bay, lows in the upper 30s to near 40. lakeport and ukiah will see lows dropping into the mid to upper 20s.
