worth. abc 7 reached out to the bay area's major airports to see if they have seen an increase in sick calls. oakland international and sfo say they have not seen any impact from the sick calls. the suspect in an attack that left a security guard fighting for his life will remain in custody after a judge denied his request for bail today. police believe the 24-year-old skate yn border attacked a 57-year-old outside the old bank of america building in san francisco last november. janson's family shared video of the assault for the first time today. they say it shows the viciousness of the attack. the suspect's blows caused bleeding of the brain forcing doctors to remove half of his skull and part of his brain. the long-term security gashd was guard was in a coma for a couple weeks. the funeral for a northern california police officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty will be tomorrow. today the community is honoring him. law enforcement officers

escorted the police corporal hearse from modesto to newman this morning. a viewing took place inside a theater. he was killed during a traffic stop. he leaves behind a wife and infant son. the suspect will undergo a mental health evaluation to et see if he's fit to stand trial on murder charges. in the east bay, we know the name of a found in a landfill. her death is considered suspicious. an autopsy showed no signs of trauma. the 23-year-old has had a long history of drug abuse. her body was found on monday at a facility run by waste management. the sheriffs office wants to hear from anybody who knows anything about the death. we want to turn now to the weather because we are in for some big changes. >> yeah, a look outside. this is beautiful right now. a lot of rain is on the way.

we'll look at what's coming with spencer christian. >> it's going to be a stormy weekend here in the bay area and a snowy one in the sierra. you can see from the live view you just saw there's no hit in the sky right noup but here's the first of two weekend storms coming our way. it's just offshore and will start to move into the bay area tonight. both storms ranked 2 on the storm impact scale. we'll combine their it impact details. so we expect 1 to 3 inches of rab in in the north bay. gusts up to 45 miles per hour generally. up to 60 miles per hour or higher in the peaks. 7:00 this evening between that hour and midnight, all we'll see a few scattered pockets of showers or sprinkles. but after midnight, we'll have a surge of moderate to heavy rainfall, strong winds between midnight and 7:00 a.m. the day is going to start under stormy conditions and a second storm is to follow this weekend. i'll give you a closer look at

round of sick calls that is costing the agency a lot of money. >> the "san francisco chronicle" reported bart police officers ended up having to cover for the bart workers stchlt here's amy. >> bart riders have sympathy for bart employees scheduled to work on christmas. the "san francisco chronicle" reported that more than a third of bart workers called in sick on christmas eve. persons we talked to were interesting to give them a pass. >> i understand them not wanting to be a work. i wasn't at work and i think there are bigger issues with bart to tell you the truth. >> they are trying to be with their families, right? i can understand that. family first, right? that's what they say. >> not everyone is willing to look the other way. >> the the mass absences is totally unacceptable. >> he said bart needs to manage the employees to prevent them in the future. it meant five stations didn't have agents and bart police had to do the work of station

agents. one director told the chronicle she would rather see police focus on public safety. >> the central issue is safety for the traveling public. they are the eyes and ears for the safety of the passengers. >> the bart union president said the workers are under stress because of the shortage of police officers and need personal health days. riders would like to see more officers. >> hire more bart police, please! >> they hope there will be consequences that cost bart 406 hours for overtime. >> they should hold them accountable. if they are supposed to be at work and there needs to be accountability for that. >> bart released a statement saying the spike in absences is of great concern and that steps are being taken to appropriately respond to the employee who is didn't show up. bart did not specify what that would look like. aim holyfield, abc 7 news.

>> buyer 35 people applied for the chief's job at the fire department according to a "san francisco examiner" report. that was peared down to 11 last interviewing applicants today. in a few weeks they are expected to forward three or four names to the mayor. the current chief announced a retirement in october. her last day on the job will be may 5th. >> a teen girl steals a police suv and takes it on a quick joy ride in michigan. people were scattering from the van after a stop by grand rapids police. they sped away from the fight and while the officers were chasing people, one occupant jumped into the patrol car and hit a van and drove on to a sidewalk. officers caught the 17-year-old in about two minutes after she stole the suv. that is bold for a teenager and for anyone, actually. >> to get away with that. >> she did.

the storms ranked two on the storm that moderates intensity and you can expect a total of to three inches of rain along the coast. our coastal ranges and north bay are at an inch to an inch and a half. winds gust about 45 miles per hour and 60 or higher in the upper elevations. here's the forecast. 6:00 tomorrow morning, we will see a wave of moderate to heavy rainfall sweeping through the bay area from west to east. trailing pockets of showers and some of which will be heavy throughout the day and into the evening hours. we will see the rain tapering off for a while. new gusts and wind advisories for all of the bay area from 4:00 to 4:00 p.m. for solano and lake counties, 7:00 p.m. wind out of the south at 20 to 30. gusts to 45 or 60 and possibility of downed trees and power lines and maybe power

outages. let's move to the sierra where a storm warning will number effect until 4:00 monday morning. we expect about 4,000 feet and two to three feet of snow up to 50 inches in some locations. back to the bay area, we will see increasing clouds as that wave of rain and wind will approach us in the wee hours of the morning. overnight lows in the mid- to upper 40s and tomorrow's highs are showery and windy and mid- to upper 50s. here's the seven-day forecast. i will remind you, two storms, one saturday and one sunday. both moderate intensity. a lighter storm on monday and another tuesday and another on wednesday before we finally start to dry out a little bit towards the end of the week. i will give you a close up look at game conditions for the college championship games. >> down to a one instead of two. >> exactly.

families. gavin newsom takes off this monday and could grand freedom to the manson family. this follows the recommendation that he be freed after spending nearly 50 years in prison. he had been denied parole 18 other times and he first received the death penalty for the murder of gary hinman, but that was later changed to a life sentence. >> the military air strike killed a member of al qaeda suspected in the deaths of 17 american sailors. the terror group targeted the american war ship in yemen in october of 2000. officials are trying to confirm that monday's air assault did kill jamal. he spent two decades on the fbi's most wanted terror list and he was captured after the bombing, but escaped. the american accused of spying by russia is asking ireland for help. irish officials say paul whelan

might impact. robert, everyone has something special inside them. i spoke to ivory and one of the first things he said to me. don't strive to be great, don't strive to the great. strive to be excellent. my name is steve mckenzie and i worked downtown for 15 years and passed the homeless people countless times. i would occasionally dolar or smiled at them and treated them like a lamp post or something you see on the street. one day i was walking to work and i passed this guy numerous times for 10 years and one day i walked past and i saw there was a sign that said rest in peace, raymond. for the first time, i thought my gosh, i lost a friend. i never met the guy. i never engaged with him. i really felt like i lost a friend. that was the point they thought i'm going to start engaging

with the air bags that a linked to at least 23 deaths. this is a story that never ends. >> it's the same thing over and over again. ford this time said vehicles have a risk of supplying shrapnel caused by exploding inflaters. seven models are named in the recall. you can see them on the screen right now. if you have one of these vehicles, you are urged to take it to a dealership as soon as possible and they will replace the passenger side front air bag at no cost. i would call ahead. the air bags led to one of the largest recalls in history. this has been going on since 2014. the world's largest hotel company is offering more information on a data breech announced in november. you may remember marriott. it said the breech affected 383

million unique guests. that figure is down from the original estimated half billion guests. hammers accessed millions of passport numbers that some of the data was encrypt and they didn't get the information. hot telechain said they wanted to update figures of an investigative team. it's one of the largest data breeches in history. the city of los angeles is showing operators of the weather channel's mobile app. ibm owns the app. prosecutors say the company tracks the whereabouts of users and sells that to third parties and fails to explain clearly how it shares the informs. ibm said they always have been transparent about the use of location and data collection from users and that foreclosures are fully appropriate. if you have a consumer issue, i want to hear from you. my 7 on your side hotline is
