live where you live, this is abc 7 news. >> all right. get those umbrellas ready. we are just hours away from a series of storms that will drench the bay area. good evening. thanks for joining us. i'm dan ashley, and i'm ama daetz. downpours are possible with possible power outages. >> sandhya patel is here with live doppler 7. >> let's take a look at live doppler. no rain on our radar right now, but that will be changing quickly. just hours away, back-to-back storms for the weekend. the first one comes in tomorrow morning. the second one sunday night. on our storm impact scale, both are level 2 storms, moderate strength storms from 3/4 on the 1.5 inch of rain expected. wettest spots 1 to 3 inches. gusts to 45 miles per hour and over the peaks even higher winds means the potential is there for power outages. there is even the possibility of

thunderstorms. 5:30, that rain is moving in. the winds are kicking up. 8:00 a.m. right across the heart of the bay. and as we head into the latter part of the morning, the rainfall intensity could be briefly heavy, leading to potential minor flooding on the roadways. mount tam gusting to 47 miles per hour. the winds are increasing in the hills. wind advisory covering all of the by area as the southerly winds ramp up tomorrow. there is that potential for downed trees and power lines. i'll be back with the rest of your hour-by-hour rain timeline to let you know if your weekend is going to be a washout. dan? >> very good. sandh sandhya, thank you so much. you can check the weather conditions in your area using the abc 7 news app. it features live doppler 7 and the ability to customize the forecast where you live. breaking news out of west oakland now. there is an active scene at center and 11th streets where police are investigating a triple homicide. it happened just about two hours ago. police say all three victims were adult men. officers could be seen searching inside a car at that scene.

there's no word yet on what may have led up to the shooting, and no arrests have been made. a massive shake-up could be in the works for pg&e. the utility is reportedly looking to sell its natural gas division to cover potential wildfire liability costs. that news sent shares of the utility plunging 20% in after-hours trading today. abc 7 news reporter carlos salcedo is in the newsroom with more on this story. carlos? >> that's right, dan. pg&e could face huge losses if found guilty of causing several of the devastating and destructive wildfires from last year, including the camp fire. let's go ahead and show you the story. pg&e is facing billions of dollars in liability if found responsible for a series of deaddly oringal of its gas assets using the money to fund massive payouts. >> by spinning off their gas and electric systems, i think they will become a size that they can manage. i think what we've seen over the last few years is they've been

too big to succeed. we saw that after san bruno, and we're seeing it after the fires. >> state senator jerry hill has been critical of the utility giant. he welcomes a split. the question is who would buy it? >> they don't have much of a system to sale. no one wants a gas system. their electric system much more attractive than their gas system. >> the company is also reportedly looking to sale some of its real estate assets like at san francisco headquarters. >> if you're talking about selling your assets at a very reduced rate obviously to cover some expenses, it's just not going to work. >> former san bruno mayor is disappointed with this possibility given pg&e's track record. in a statement to abc 7 on friday, the company said the pg&e board was reviewing structural options to best position pg&e to implement necessary changes while meeting customer and operational needs. >> i think a lot of their hearts are in the right place, but it's structural. it's been going on for many years. and it's going take many years

to correct. >> and it's important to note that. investigators have not determined the cause of the massive wildfire that destroyed the town of paradise in november, but speculation has centered on pg&e. in the newsroom, carlos salcedo, abc 7 news. >> all right, carlos, thank you. college football fever is taking over the south bay. earlier tonight, the two teams going head to head in the college football play-off national championship game touched down in san jose. that is clemson on the left and of course alabama then on the right. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo is live in downtown san jose with details on the fan frenzy. >> hey, ama, we are at discovery meadow park here in downtown san jose where thousands just cleared out after tonight's free concert. this is part of a weekend long series. the craze over college football may be unfamiliar to us, but it is a big deal for alabama and clemson fans, many of whom traveled across the country to take home that championship

custody. police arrested 19-year-old oakland resident alma today. investigators say the jogger defended herself with pepper spray when the suspect's dog attacked her. the suspect then attacked and bit the victim, causing significant wounds, authorities say. she is due in court on monday morning. there are new developments in the efforts to pick san francisco's transbay transit center. it's been closed for more than 100 days since two fissures were discovered in steel beams. the transbay joint powers authority says a repair design has been approved by the metropolitan transportation commission. now a construction schedule has to be finalized, which should happen this month. we'll keep you updated on the timeline. a lot more to come here. a stark warning from president trump. he says the government shutdown could last for months, maybe even years. how the democrats are responding. governor-elect gavin newsom gets sworn in on monday, and now we know where he will live.

this week. the clip of ocasio-cortez went viral when an anonymous right-wing twitter account shared the clip in an apparent attempt to mock her. it appears to be an edited version of a 2010 youtube video of boston university students doing the breakfast club dance. many were quick to defend ocasio-cortez after the video got more than five million views, saying it was just a young college student dancing with her friends. well today look at this. ocasio-cortez posted this new video on twitter. she points and twins to some music playing in the background, as you can see. the congresswoman then laughs as she enters her new office in the capitol. well, it's going to be a wet weekend with a series of storms. but before the rain, we got to enjoy another round of breathtaking sunsets tonight. it's been a beautiful few days recently. abc 7 news meteorologist sandhya patel joins us with live doppler 7. that's changing, sandhya? >> it is. those sunsets were breathtaking.

we have two storms coming our way this upcoming weekend. now with all the extra clouds, temperatures are running higher than where they were yesterday at this time. you remember the last couple of mornings have been very cold. we're going to get out of that a bit. but there will still be some chilly spots. right now temperatures ranging from 34 in 54 in half moon bay, a good 20-degree spread. from our east hills camera we are looking back towards san francisco. clouds are gathering two. storms coming in this weekend. snow level will be dropping to 4,000 feet, which means places like mt. saint helena could be seeing a light dusting of snow. wet pattern continues into next week. let me show you the weekend storm concerns. minor roadway flooding very high likelihood, especially sunday after tomorrow's storm, that second storm comes in, ground is wet already. it's not going to be able to absorb the water as much. water planing and trees toppling high likelihood. creeks and streams flooding low possibility for the weekend. both storms on our exclusive

impact scale. our level 2 for tomorrow and sunday. rainfalls 3/4 of an inch to 1.5. the wettest locations see about 1 to 3 inches. the gusts up to 45, 60 miles per hour over the peaks means the potential is there for the trees going down. and even some blowing holiday decorations, debris flowing around. thunderstorm possibility there as well with some small hail. hour-by-hour, we're going to show you the wind forecast. 30-mile-per-hour winds along the coast. we're already seeing high winds at the higher elevations right now, gusting to 40 along the coast tomorrow late morning. winds ease, only to pick back up again on sunday. over 30, 40-mile-per-hour winds sunday night going into late sunday night and then the winds will drop back as we head towards monday morning. hour-by-hour 5 a.m. saturday, you see the rain beginning to approach. by 8:00 a.m., you see the rain moving in. the oranges, yellow indicating moderate to heavy rain. briefly heavy means the potential is there for some minor flooding. 11:30, you're still seeing pockets of moderate rain there

at 3:30 in the afternoon, courted showers. isolated thunder can't be ruled out as you see a little bit of sun. it could destabilize the atmosphere. saturday night you have a window with spotty light showers sunday morning. if you want to do outdoor activities, have the umbrella ready. 9:00 a.m. spotty light showers sunday, and then here comes second storm. sunday afternoon at noontime, some heavy rain coming in at 4:00 p.m. the red's indicating that potential for snow as i mentioned sunday afternoon, going into sunday night. and then widespread heavy rain sunday night at 8:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m., this continues right on through late sunday night and early monday morning as many of you head back to work, kids back to school, a few scattered light showers are expected. be the showers will be getting out just in time for that big game to get under way. now rainfall potential with the combination of two storms taking you right on through sunday night will be mostly in the 1 to 2-inch category. but some places lower elevations, about 3/4 of an inch. it all turns to snow in the
