across the bay area. we start in house with meteorologist. >> we are seeing issues. thanks to the heavy rain at times coming down for several hours in some areas. live doppler tracking the action. you can see we have a lot of wet weather. i want to show you this flood advisory issued minutes ago. ag. we have seen flooding. and with heavy rainfalling over the region with the past couple hours, more flooding is possible. that lasts until 8:45 p.m. rite now live doppler 7 light to moderate rain for the north bay. we'll zoom in. it's a similar set up from hayward to fremont at this hour. along the peninsula. polkt pockets of dry area. oakland still dealing with rain. over san francisco at this hour the marina and financial

district hit with wet weather. in the inland it's wet no matter where you go. we're dealing with this storm system. not only the rain it's the wind. wind gusting to 50 miles per hour. close to 40 in san francisco. it's not only wet it's very windy. this is a strong level 3 system. this evening. rain heavy at times. strong winds. we're still looking at the potential for more flooding over the next couple hours and trees to fall under the strong wind. hour by hour time out the storm system. and we have several other storms moving in over the next seven days. >> we appreciate it. the weather caused issues across the bay area today from hundreds of delayed flights to flooding to issues on the road. live at the with the closer look. still looking soggy out there. >> very much so.

since it's dark now it's tough to make out the choppy water. earlier today the waves were coming onto the sidewalk. forcing officials to shut down the road and peer 14. >> flooding, pooling opt highways. and choppy waves. water is everywhere. >> raining like crazy. >> the calls have been non-stop. >> we have seen a lot of spin outs. we have seen some vehicles roll over. >> like this car in a creek. people stay off the roads if you can. we found flooding at sixth in season fran. and patches of standing water on 280. >> traffic is moving fast because there's less traffic. just be careful. >> the waves turned into a photo op for visitors. >> oh yeah. i have never seen the tide so high. it's kind of scary. >> flooding caused pier 14 and a portion of the road to close for

the second day in a road. the zoo had to shut down sunday. more than 100 flights cancelled at 400 delayed. passengers were told to expect delays up to five hours and everyone can expect more rain this week. >> i wish i had a better coat. >> that is all right. there is something we want to mention to everyone. we had a call koom in about this. when you're driving in the rain, even during the day. put on the headlights. and also pedestrians make sure to have on bright colored clothing walking around down here. >> great suggestions. take a look at this water spout formed off the santa cruz coast. the national weather service tweeted out this video. water spout is a funnel cloud over water. the weather service says at the time of the spout a strong cell was moving ashore. the weather has increased the

avalanche danger in the sierra. this map from the sierra avalanche center shows the area under a high avalanche warning through 7:00 a.m. the central sierra nevada includes parts of south l.a. tahoe and incline this doesn't avalanche mitigation programs are in place. the snowy conditions have ben a nightmare for tourists trying to bet pack home. and one of the travelers is a news reporter. who spent her weekend in tahoe. her birthday weekend at that. take a look. this map shows the route she's been trying to take today. the blue dot showing where she was. in just the past hour. talk about a snail pace. she joins us on the phone. i'm glad you can laugh. you have been on the road since this morning? >> if you can believe it. since 11:00 this morning.

and we have traveled a total of 13 miles in seven hours. talk about an adventurousurousus birthday weekend. we left this morning. we have seen multiple cars stuck. trying to help each other. people getting out and trying to put chains on their tires. much earlier today closer to this morning we saw chp. i asked an officer helping direct traffic how long to get back to the north bay. he said i'd stop somewhere to get dinner if you can. i haven't passed anywhere to get dinner. we have a full tank of gas, water and car snacks. we could be out here all night. >> have you seen any accidents out there? obviously very slippery. treacherous conditions. >> i haven't directly seen any.

on the map image we sent you we saw road hazards on google maps. i'm on 50. for about two hours we were in a dead stop. and just started moving again. which to me suggests there had been somebody stuck or an accident. up ahead. but got cleared. i haven't seen a tow truck or anything. i have seen cal tran. and chp vehicles. mostly people being helpful to one another. we see cars stuck or doentd have all wheel drive or chains on their tires. drivers are helping one another. if you get stuck along the way and somebody is pushing your car. i can't imagine you'll make it over the mountain. >> can't believe it once again. 13 miles in seven hours. i know you have to be back at

trash keeps piling up at national parks because of the government shutdown. officials have a strategy to clean up. the service plans to spend admission fees they have collected to pay for cleaning. smaller parks will stay closed because of the shut down. "washington post" reports some congressional democrats believe the park service is breaking the law by spending admission fees. as for california national parks, mere woods will close tomorrow. you can get into your yoes mite. but access is limited and several trails are closed. josh wa tree is accessible.

the campgrounds have been closed. governor elect is at the concert in sacramento to raise fund for victims of california wild fires. he's set to be sworn in tomorrow. he has long list to address inlewding healthcare. education and the housing crisis. according to the "new york times." he is expected to propose a six month long paternal leave. the longest in the country. more on the concert tonight at 11:00. >> and governor elect inauguration is expected to begin 11:15 tomorrow. taking the oath of office around noon. we'll have live coverage tomorrow. expanding to a complete hour of the hour long show. called midday live. join us tomorrow and every weekday at 11:00. right after the view. >> the college football play off championship is expected to be dry tomorrow. the rain is putting a dm per on the fun for fans today.

thousands of fans have flocked to the bay area for the college football play off championship. despite the rain there are out door activities scheduled for them to enjoy this evening. joining us live from downtown san jose. i have one word to describe you. trooper. >> thank you. i have to tell you, bad news for people who are heading out here for tonight's free concert. 15 minutes ago we saw crews turning crowds around. in the last hour we showed you a dozen people waiting in the windy wet and cold conditions in downtown san jose for a chance at the free concert. this is the final night or would have been the final night of a three day concert series here. at discovery meadow park. in downtown.

we were expecting to hear from the regrets. ellie golding. and one republic. they were supposed to be headlining. it was exciting to see the sound track. as they were leaves. you can hear them from outside the park. at 6:00 the cancellation came down. this is the second game related event that has been cancelled because of the weather. we know that the taped rehearsal for treasure island was also cancelled because of the weather. the rain really causing some safety concerns. that also is what we were seeing here. in downtown san jose. everyone telling me they're just looking for something to do. now that it is cancelled because the fan fest at the convention center that would have kept them inside ended at 6:00. the gates here were supposed to open at 6:00. that's no longer the case. stay inside and avoid the weather. unfortunately we can't. we're here in downtown.

in the height of storm season. a one, two punch.ur out of the south. airport delays there. fair field gusting to 45 miles per hour. 36 that gust. 24 in hayward. half-moon bay gusting to 32 miles per hour. so it's for that fact we can continue to have a wind advisory in effect. in effect in the north bay mountains the east bay hills and santa cruz. along the san mateo coastline. for the wind in excess of 40, 50 miles per hour. this will continue until 10:00. it's a cold day today. chilly tonight. 40s and 50s with most cities holding in the low 50s. a gradual fall into the 40s over night. on the storm impact scale this evening. a strong level three storm we have. rain still heavy at times. winds are certainly an issue. gusting 40 miles per hour. if not more. minor flooding still could be a

concern. flood advisory in effect. what to expect with this storm system. the rain will be heaviest before 10:00 this evening. and after 10:00 this storm system will be exiting and drier skies will prevail. wind will be fierce for the next couple hours before 9:00 and then this is out of here. after midnight. let's time out the winds. 10:00 starting to calm down in the north. still active. for the southern half of the viewing area. after midnight the storm moves out. wind calm down. monday itself is a really calm day in terms of wind. winds less than 10 miles per hour. winter storm warning in effect until 4:00 a.m. this is a additional snowfall. we have seen spots pick up well over two feet. kirk wood more than a foot. a winter wonder land there. back here over night tonight rain early. clearing after midnight. clouds hang on. 40s over the next 12 hours. we'll break down the monday.
