the airline industry. dan noyes is digging into changes. >> already having serious impact at smaller airlines and could reduce the number of flights to krur destination. some experts worry the difference in how pilots are trained could affect your safety in the air. >> could have wiped that entire neighborhood. >> happens when pilots not trained properly. ignored federal safety regulations crashing a commuter plane into buffalo home, all people on the plane and ground killed. pilot made critical errors and history of training failures. responded by increasing the number of hours to become a commercial pilot. now some want those safety rules to be relaxed because of a pilot shortage.

boeing projects need 790,000 new pilots around the world next 20 years, due to massive number about to reach retirement age of 65. expensive training and other faa requirements make it difficult to enter the profession. >> nothing short of a crisis. >> warns the shortage is causing small airlines to shut down. smaller communities losing service as larger airlines hire pilots away to fill their openings. want pilots to replace some training time with simulator instead. >> not focusing on the hours but skill sets and experience out of those hours. >> proposing ideas that would replace pilot experience with simulator experience is madness. in fact it's insane.
