weather and traffic right now. >> hi mike. >> hi mike. >> hi jessica, everybody. high surf advisory breaks could braet eak up to tw feet. here's a look at sutro tower. you can see it bouncing around. the winds are gusty. driving across the bay bridge today, i didn't feel like i was in control of my own car, the way the winds were blowing it around. 7:00, still have winds and dampness out there in the form of showers. they become more scattered and lighter from noon until 4:00. a little bit of sunshine. enough of that sunshine will irritate the atmosphere for the possibility of a thunderstorm or two. the chance fades quickly by 7:00. another mild day with temperatures near 60. back to alexis with more on that accident. >> yeah. we've got a major significa-ales

morning. south of the 880 connector there, we've got a fatal collision around mckee road just north of there. all lanes are shut down. the purple indicates a full closure. south of there, you can see that backup has made it to 280, 680. the crash just happened before 4:00 this morning. large box truck flipped over on its side. for now, you can take northbound 280 to 87 for no delays. if the backup continues to grow, that will be spilling over on to 101 south up 280 to 680. keeping a close eye on this. our crew is getting set up at the scene. we'll check in with amy hollyfield shortly. westbound 80, highway 4 to the maze. 17 minutes. it's a windy drive across the bay bridge. we have a high-wind advisory in effect. 8-minute drive into san francisco and in the green at nine minutes on the 101.

police may be zeroing in on a suspect who murdered a 17-year-old boy from redwood city. >> the teen was shot to death late monday night. last night a s.w.a.t. team and drone surrounded a home in connection with the case. we talked with neighbors. >> a varsity football player at carl mont high was shot outside an elementary school monday night. by tuesday afternoon, the murder investigation found its way to a quiet neighborhood in pleasanton. >> the side of the house, they had a police vehicle and they had police over in front of the house. they had a black s.w.a.t. vehicle that had soldiers surrounding the vehicles with their weapons pointed towards the house. >> they used a loud speaker to call the three suspects or whoever out, the neighbors. >> a source confirmed to abc 7 news this home was searched in

connection to the death. that there may be multiple suspects. sky map gives a clear picture as things unfolded. the family living in this home is relatively new to the community and moved here from belmont. patel says the police have come by this house before. >> we've had some -- lot of times cops come to the house. >> it didn't appear police found who or what they were looking for. it stunned neighbors. people in belmont are rattled too. the football coach says he was a good kid. >> he was a pivotal piece in helping us to win a league championship. >> police don't think the crime is random. we tried to talk to the people whose home was searched but they did not answer. >> >>. a significant development in the search for the driver who hit a teenager riding a bike.

14-year-old carlos pre et a was dragged for several blocks last week. he remains in critical condition. pg&e stock tankd after reports of liability from last year's wildfires. standard and poors cut their credit rating. governor newsom had a somber conversation with pg&e executives about the company's solvency. the governor is finalizing the names of the three commissioners he'll be appointing to come up with answers. >> i try to be -- my role is to protect your interests, not pg&e's interests, but sometimes the interests may align. that's where this gets complicated. >> yesterday pg&e announced that three executives were retiring at the end of the month, marking a change in their leadership. governor newsom also talked

about his new budget. it will had $305 million to fire mitigation efforts, including over 200 million directed at cutting brush and creating fire breaks. the governor also plans to back an effort to modernize the state's 911 system. he wants to pay for it with what he calls a modest fee. last august, democratic lawmakers tried but failed to pass a surcharge on phone service to pay for an upgrade. a so-called smart 911 system would let people send texts, photos and videos to emergency dispatch centers. the dmv needs more money to keep things running smoothly or else the wait times will go up. the sacramento bee reports that the department submitted a request for $40.4 million last week. wait times hit its worst last summer when some people spent seven hours in line. wait times got better after the department got $64 million to hire more workers: the latest

budget request would let the department keep the employees and hire more part-time workers. all right. want to take you to our major traffic alert happening now in the south bay. we've got a sig-alert. all lanes shut down on northbound 101 north of mckee road and unfortunately, this is a fatality investigation now. around 3:45 this morning, we had what was fishily reported as -- initially reported as a garbage truck, or it might be a big box truck. it's blocking all lanes and the driver was trapped. unfortunately that, person did not survive. we've got cleanup under way and fuel spilled all over the roadway as well. this is likely going to be here for most of the morning commute. they are not able to give an estimate right now. i'm hearing that our crew is stuck in the backup as well. i know they were getting really close. unfortunately, they are not there yet. as soon as they're set up, we'll hear from our crew at the scene. i can tell you to take northbound 280 to 87 to reconnect with northbound 101. that won't cost you too much

we have another crash not far from there. northbound 680 near berry he is a road. that one is blocking two out of three lanes in that area. not a great start here on the roads this morning. let's switch gears and check in with meteorologist mike nicco. >> we talked about the wetness out there. let me talk about the temperatures for a second. we're up to 7 degrees warmer than yesterday. even in the east bay valley, should be 15 to 20 degrees warmer than average in the mid-50s. 58, concord one of the warm spots. 57 in vallejo. san francisco, mountain view and some of the warmer sports. it's definitely a soupy air mass. as you can see from the bay bridge toll plaza, puddles on the commute. >> the roads could be wet at times, even during the evening commute. in the bay, windy this morning and then breezy. that means the winds will taper a little bit and not be as

aggressive. they'll be noticeable and for mass transit, damp and mild all day today. you'll see a chance around noon and 2:00. we have waves of light showers today. this just happens to be the best time the model picked up that they could directly hit the east bay. any other time today, up until about 8:00, could still have a stray shower. same thing up in the north bay. your rain will be a little bit steadier than everybody else's. it will go from scattered to steady during the afternoon hours. back to scattered during the evening hours and then for san francisco, we've got a chance just about all day today. but it looks like our best chance is going to be as you head out for lunch this afternoon. we'll come back with the accuweather seven-day forecast soon. let's get it back to reggie and jessica. >> thanks, mike. a new twist to remove mark zuckerberg's name from the hospital. the nurse behind the effort says now he's being punished. the democrats refuse to budge. we're live in washington with the latest developments. the latest developments. if you have a thing

traveled through mexico to gain access to the united states. >> congressional leaders are heading back to the white house this afternoon hoping to come to an agreement to end the shutdown. live in washington, serena marshall, abc 7 news. >> thank you, serenserena. the government shutdown is affecting more than just federal workers. rideshare drivers are also taking a hit. fewer government employees need rides because they're out of work. in fact, some furloughed federal workers are now driving for uber and lyft to help pay their bills. full-time drivers say the added competition is costing them. aaron peskin is working to have mark zuckerberg's name removed from a city hospital. peskin says his name should be removed because of the cambridge analytica scandal. they have received the question to look into it. the hospital was renamed in 2015 after zuckerberg and his wife

donated $75 million to the hospital's foundation. there's only a week left to enroll for health insurance through cover california. today, 7 on your side's michael finney is hosting a health insurance hotline. enrollment agents will be on hand to take your calls from 4:00 until 8:00. you can also ask questions right now online by using the #ask finney. a major traffic incident to report. alexis has more. >> unfortunately, i don't have any good news and i don't think i will for most of the commute. we have a full closure of northbound 101 in san jose. this happened about 3:45 this morning just north of mckee road. garbage truck or a large box truck flipped over on its side. this is a fatality. investigation is under way. i also heard from chp that a lot of fuel spilled on the road. that's a mess. this will take a while to clean up and they have to investigate,

too. amy hollyfield is trying to get there. they're stuck in the backup. just actually saw one of her shots. people are turning around and driving the wrong way trying to get out of the backup. it is not a great situation. take 280 to 87 to avoid a tough situation this morning. i do want to touch on an issue in from the santa cruz mountains. southbound highway 17 past idle wild road, a tree came down in the roadway. a van hit the tree. both southbound lanes are blocked. do not take that leaving the san jose area trying to get to santa cruz. i'm not sure how long that will be blocked. for now, that's not a route you can take. let's check in with meteorologist mike nicco. >> we have wet weather everywhere this morning. we've had so far nearly 3/4 of an inch the last 24 hours. it's not raining where we're looking down 101 right here. but we still have periods of showers. it's 1 on the storm impact scale.

there's still an outside chance of some light ying and thunder, especially once the sun is mixed into the forecast in the afternoon hours. once the sun goes away, the chance ends tonight. all that moisture leads to dense fog and kind of damp conditions and cooler weather for tomorrow morning's commute. we have an unsettled pattern friday, saturday, sunday, monday and tuesday. for today, mild. we're starting in the mid to upper 50s. we'll end up in the upper 50s to low 60s in the afternoon with showers. notice the lack of green on the map tonight. there's a whole lot of white. that's a whole lot of fog. temperatures cooler, not as cool as they could be. but cooler. mid to upper 40s. about 10 degrees cooler. here's a look at our area of low pressure. you can see this extending off of it. it's going to be a lift in the atmosphere. that once again, it will create a chance of some more showers and thunderstorms. here we are at 7:00. still see yellows and oranges out there. more greens than anything as we

head towards noon and a few yellow spots. notice the yellow and green spots aren't as numerous heading into the evening commute at 4:00. by the end of it at 7:00, in the north bay, the south bay, that's our best chance. overnight, pretty much there it goes. the chances of rain. but then here comes the fog. tomorrow, we'll get a break from the wet weather. look at that, we've got a chance friday, saturday, sunday, more than and tuesday and all light. starbucks is out with a new drink and its name sounds o more like a cookie than a coffee. the cinnamon short bread latte features espresso with brown butter and vanilla and stopped with cinnamon and -- topped with cinnamon and nutmeg. it's a drink al cookie. it can be ordered hot, iced or frappuccino blended beverage. it's available for a limited time. >> i am 100% there for that. sounds great. >> it's a tough sell in january when people are doing the cleanse. you know what i'm saying?

hydroplaning is my biggest concern during the morning commute especially. the winds are progressive. another tree could fall making power go out. flooding on roads is becoming less and less and small stream flooding, i don't think there will be any. >> thank you, mike. plans are set for oakland a's annual fan fest happening saturday, january 26th at jack london square. this is video of last year's gathering. fans will have a chance to meet their favorite a's players and coaches. 20 players are expected to attend, including budding superstar matt olson. legends like vida blue and others will be there. the fan fest is free. barry bonds may not have won a world series ring as a major leaguer, but he's apparently a champion in retirement. he's now breeding

one is named apollo. mber one in the nation. apollo was the champ at a recent dog show in pennsylvania. bonds has a third ranked schnauzer named bonnie. a playground in san francisco's north beach is enjoying a rebirth of sorts. last year, crews accidentally severed the rooms of several majestic pine trees surrounding the playground at washington square park. they ultimately had to be removed. the playground has reopened with new play equipment and new trees. they're a bit smaller but easier to maintain. >> went through a lot of discussions about the species, replacements. these are called horn beams. they do lose their leaves, as you can see, in the winter. but they'll leaf out again in the springand summer. >> each with yesterday's

drizzle, the new playground was getting a lot of use. all right. switching over to a major traffic issue this morning in the south bay. san jose, no change. we still have all lanes blocked on northbound 101. just past mckee road. we did just get an update from chp saying that they opened up the left lane. i think that was to release the vehicles trapped there for a long tiemt. our partners at waze are saying that delay is about 50 minutes. everyone else is being forced off south of this collision at alum rock. if you want to avoid this or most of the backup, head northbound 280 and take northbound 87 to reconnect with northbound 101. no estimate if you're just joining us. we have a fatal crash involving a flipped truck, either a box truck or garbage truck. our crews trying to get us more info. but they're stuck in that backup as well. want to check out the bay bridge toll plaza. off on the right, you can barely see a flag whipping around. it's very breezy. a high-wind advisory.
