and that breaking news is in davis. a manhunt under way for a suspect who shot a police officer following a car crash. thanks for joining us, dan ashley. >> ama daetz. female officer in critical condition right now at sacramento hospital. >> not far from uc campus. major manhunt is under way. >> cornell bernard has been monitoring. >> reporter: situation is changing by the minute. very fluid situation. we've just been pushed back half a block. police concentrating on a home near 5th and "d" street.

ordering a suspect to come out with hands up. they believe they've cornered the suspect at this home, illuminated with several lights. been going on at least 45 minutes here. major manhunt under way in city of davis. street after street in downtown area blocked off as police search for suspect authorities say shot a davis police officer earlier this evening at 5th and "d" streets. she's listed at serious condition in uc davis medical center. searching for white male in his 20s bearing a baseball cap, black jacket, jeans, black tactical boots. believed armed and dangerous. began with a car crash with three cars 6:30. officer shot when responded to the scene. unknown and unclear if the suspect was involved in the crash. davis police hoping to find the

suspect. say the shooting has shaken the department. >> you know it's a small department, family unit in a lot of ways. we're all pretty shocked. i think everybody is holding it together, trying to do their job very professionally but it's hard. >> reporter: police are telling neighbors in a ten-block area to shelter in place. seen people looking through curtains and blinds as police continue to go door to door. uc davis on lockdown, students there have been told to shelter in place. the campus is about six or seven blocks from where we are, downtown area of davis. and again police concentrating on a home on 5th street. as you can see it's lit up with searchlights. police have been telling someone inside to come out.
