but many details surrounding the case remain a mystery. this morning, jayme closs' family saying their prayers hav. >> oh, my sister can rest in peace now and jayme is coming home to me. >> reporter: officials saying she was found in gordon, wisconsin, an hour from her hometown. overnight the town's mayor getting emotional talking about closs being found. >> i am overwhelmed. we've been praying daily for a long time now that we'd have jayme return safely to our community, and i guess you can tell by the emotion in my voice it's really a big deal. we're really thrilled. >> reporter: a suspect has been taken into custody, but police are not releasing any other details about the arrest or how jayme was located, however, a source telling our affiliate kstp that a woman walking her dog in a remote area was approached by a screaming

teenage girl who said she needed help and identified the man in custody as having killed her parents. investigators believe the 13-year-old was kidnapped after her parents, james and denise closs, were found murdered in their wisconsin home october 15th. >> we believe jayme was in the home at the time of the homicides. we believe she is still in danger. >> grab him, josh. he's got a group of five. >> reporter: and now the community that came together to help search for closs saying they never gave up hope. >> i mean, it's on the windows. it's on everybody's -- their yard. that's just wonderful news. i'm glad. >> she's going to have a loving community to come home to and there will be plenty of help. barron county will have lots of services that will help provide for her recovery and glad she's alive. that's awesome. >> last night her grandfather said jayme was being evaluated at the hospital. investigators plan to release more details this morning on the suspect and the circumstances surrounding how jayme was found. we turn now to the government shutdown just one day from becoming the longest in u.s. history, and now there's

word the president may use disaster relief funds from places like california and puerto rico to pay for the border wall. in a new interview the president said he's leaning toward declaring a national emergency. abc's serena marshall has the new details from washington. good morning, serena. >> reporter: kenneth, janai, good morning to you guys. and during that visit to the mexico/u.s. border the president paraphrased that famous harry truman quote to the buck stops here saying on this shutdown, the buck stops with everybody and this as the shutdown hits government workers especially hard. the shutdown showdown on par to be the longest government spending lapse ever. day 21 and the president not backing down telling sean hannity a national emergency declaration is looking more likely. >> if we don't make a deal with congress, most likely i will do that. i would actually say i would. >> reporter: reportedly considering a redirection of funds from disaster relief projects like the california wildfires and the hurricanes that slammed florida, texas and puerto rico to the border wall. using the army corps of

>> reporter: and their absence from the job being felt across the country. and beginning saturday miami international airport will shut down a terminal so they can send available tsa agents to busier checkpoints. live in washington, serena marshall. kenneth, janai. >> a lot of resilient workers are still at work protecting so many. our thanks to them and to you, serena. president trump's former lawyer is set to tell his story to congress. michael cohen will testify publicly before the house oversight committee next month. it comes one month before he heads to prison. he is set to serve three years for lying about hush money payoffs to hide the president's alleged affairs. there's speculation that cohen is using the appearance on capitol hill to try to reduce his sentence. the president says he's not concerned about what cohen will say. >> and i'm not worried about it at all, no. >> cohen released a statement saying he wants to give a full and credible account of events with the president. the president has called cohen a liar and criticized him as being weak. breaking news overnight near sacramento where a police officer has been shot and

killed. police in davis, california, say officer natalie corona was shot while responding to a car crash. she later died at the hospital. the 22-year-old was just worn in as an officer last summer.sworn in as an officer last summer. a manhunt got under way overnight for the suspect. time now for a look at your weather for this friday morning. good morning. rain in texas becomes heavy snow through parts of missouri, illinois and indiana. how many inches? well, in some spots around the gateway to the west 6 to 12 inches then the storm moves east into the weekend and saturday night we're talking some heavy snow through the virginias here. it'll push over d.c. as we step into sunday when we could see off towards the south through parts of virginia another 6 to 12 inches of snow becoming rain before we get to virginia beach. i'm meteorologist melissa constanzer.

an avocado shortage may hit just in time for super bowl sunday. a fuel shortage in mexico due to a government crackdown on rampant gas theft may keep 120,000 tons of the fruit from reaching the u.s. early next month. that could mean limited supplies of guacamole for super bowl parties. distributors say they have two weeks to solve the problem. >> bad news. r. kelly's attorney is speaking out as the singer faces new fallout over a cable tv docu-series detailing a long history of sex with minors. just days after kelly was spotted singing at a chicago nightclub, his lawyer denied claims that kelly was operating

we turn now to the bus driver in wisconsin credited with saving a child. >> the baby girl was wandering the streets alone in the freezing cold wearing only a onesie. that's when the driver jumped into action. >> this morning a milwaukee bus driver is being hailed a hero. >> oh, my god, i was so upset. and i couldn't -- i couldn't believe that somebody can -- left the child on the street. >> reporter: irena ivic spotted a barefoot child barely old enough to walk and barely clothed alone out in the cold. the driver stopped her bus and ran to help the child. >> the baby was so scared and cried and she didn't know what to do, where to go. >> reporter: ivic took the baby girl back to warm her up on the bus to the stunned reaction of the passengers. >> oh, my god. >> oh, my god. >> oh, my god. >> reporter: one passenger offered her coat as ivic held the child until police arrived. by the time an officer got to the scene the baby was fast asleep in her arms. >> that's the sort of human impulse we should be celebrating and encouraging. >> reporter: that baby's family says the little girl is safe.

they say her mother had experienced a mental health issue that day. fortunately the right person happened to be passing by. >> i find myself in same situation i will, of course, again help, always. >> just incredible. ivic immigrated from serbia 12 years ago. she says she was a teacher there and has a natural fondness for kids. a normally shy and quiet fourth grader in massachusetts finds himself thrust into the limelight after he saved his little sister's life. joshua joseph you see there was at home with his grandmother when he noticed his 6-year-old sister shaking and passing out. dmhees spk glish, >> yeah, she's breathing, but she's not responding. >> okay, how old are you? >> i'm 9 because my dad told me to call 911. >> it was kind of scary. when i called 911 i couldn't really talk because i was very nervous.

that breaking news in davis where a 22-year-old police officer has been shot and killed. this happened as she responded to a traffic crash. just a few hours ago police announced the suspected gunman took his own life. a terrible way to start on this friday. thanks for being here. i'm reggie aqui. i'm jessica castro. let's get you updated on the breaking news stories we're talking about. just before midnight, the davis police chief announced natalie corona passed away after being taken to the hospital. the officer was shot when she responded to a three-car crash near 5th and d streets. it's unknown if the suspect involved was -- was involved in the crash, i should say. later officers surrounded a nearby home. they sent in a exploded what appeared to be flash bang grenades. just before 1:30, police announced the suspect was found dead with what appeared to be a

self-inflicted gunshot wound. officer natalie corona started her career in 2016 at the davis police department as a community service officer. >> the 22-year-old just completed the police academy last july. according to the williams pioneer review, she was sworn in as a davis police officer on august 2nd. officer corona had just got out of the department's field training program after christmas and had only been on the streets for a few weeks. >> she was a rising star in the department. and i've known her for a couple of years. she started as a part-time employee, volunteer. i can tell you that i haven't seen anybody work harder in a part-time capacity and be more motivated to be a police officer than natalie. >> she is survived by her parents, her father is a 26-year veteran of the sheriff's office. he was just sworn in as district
