jose, 14, no delays northbound 280, highway 101 to cupertino. you're looking good at 10 minutes. new overnight we have new video of a two-car crash in san jose. it happened on monterey north of bernal. you can see the silver car is just destroyed. the white car suffered significant damage to the hood of the car. first responders treated one person involved in the scene and we don't have an update on that person's condition. now to breaking news. broadway icon and bay area native carol channing has died. >> her publicist confirmed her passing this morning. she died at her home in rancho mirage in southern california from natural causes. channing had suffered strokes in the last year. the actress starred in some of broadway's most iconic roles in the '40s, '50s and '60s including her biggest role in hello dolly. channing was born in seattle but actually grew up in san francisco. in fact, she graduated from lowell high school where the theater is named after her. carol channing was 97 years old.

alexis, i was just reading she played almost 5,000 performances of hello dolly, which is unheard of. >> certainly lived a very full life. >> she had. a legend, indeed. now that we know pg&e is filing for bankruptcy, there are a lot of lingering questios about how that affects all of us. >> as customers face the possibility of rising bills, the company's former ceo is walking away now with millions. abc 7 news reporter matt keller live for us in san jose. matt. >> i want to make sure everyone out there understands that their electricity and gas is still going to be flowing into their homes. that's not a concern. but there will be other impacts. you see, pg&e filed for bankruptcy about 18 years ago. that was due to california's deregulated energy market and market manipulation. due to down grades in credit.

held captive for three months before escaping. new court documents revealed the suspect did not know the girl. investigators say he targeted her after seeing her get off the school bus. abc news reporter alex perez has more. >> reporter: in first look, patterson stared straight ahead as charges were read. the man accused of murdering her parents and kidnapping jayme closs did not enter a plea. newly released court documents. patterson said he held jayme captive in his home where jayme told investigators he barricaded her under his bed up to 12 hours at a time with no food, water, or bathroom breaks. in the complaint he said he stacked totes with laundry bins and barbells to detect if she tried to escape. she did escape. she made her move. escaping to find jeannie nutter a few miles away. >> i have many deputies headed

that way. >> coming up at 7:00 a.m. john walsh joins us live to tell you how to keep your child safe. with "gma" first look i'm alex perez, abc news, wisconsin. only about a third of students showed up to school in los angeles during the first day of a teachers strike yesterday. more than 30,000 teachers walked out after contract talks broke down. teachers are demanding smaller class sizes, more support staff and higher pay. los angeles is the second highest school district in the country. school officials are working to ensure parents campuses are in full operation. teachers in oakland school district are locked in a negotiation battle and say they could walk out. >> it is likely there could be a strike in oakland in early to mid february if there's no significant movement to truly address ending the teacher retention crisis. >> oakland teachers held a rally over the weekend in support of l.a. teachers.

teachers of life academy in oakland have called for a one-day strike on friday. they say this so-called sickout is to show district officials that teachers are ready to strike for higher wages and smaller class sizes. educators from other schools are expected to take part in the rally and strike on friday. happening today parents will deliver petitions to change the controversial name of the dixie school district in san rafael. critics of the name say dixie is a reference to confederacy and slavery. several new names including john muir, big rock and live oak. parents plan to attend the board of trustees meeting where the issue will be discussed. the board is required to vote within 40 days. >> you're never more than 7 minutes away from accuweather forecast. mid to upper 40s in just about every neighborhood in east black hawk and lymivermore. san jose, oakland, san francisco, santa rosa and napa.

pg&e declared bankruptcy 18 years ago due to california's deregulated market and market manipulation by enron. pg&e faced a credit crumple like it might now due to down grades in its credit rating. some of the natural gas sellers are concerned about selling to pg&e on credit so the state might have to step in again and issue bonds to buy supplies for pg&e. department of water and resource bonds are part of your pg&e bill today. >> we could end up in exactly that type of situation with the state through dwr having to buy power again. once again a dwr bond charge that goes on for 20 plus years. the city of san jose is launching its own clean energy service with pg&e handling devery of power and billing. pg&e says it will be businessing a usual in spite of the bankruptcy but experts say some sort of bailout from the state and customers might be needed. the ceo resigned on sunday. bloomberg reports received a severance of 2.3 and $4.46

high flooding on the roadways, small stream flooding and a moderate chance of power lines coming down. number three, a man accused of stabbing two people in vacaville is in custody this morning. 37-year-old nathaniel holland is accused of stabbing a teenager girl and a woman. a 4-year-old girl is also recovering from burns during a house fire where holland lived. number four pg&e stock will start trading on wall street during the next hour after losing more than half its value yesterday. the utility is moving forward with bankruptcy as it faces big liability charges for its role in the california rainfalls. number five raiders will meet with coliseum authority one more time to discuss possibly playing the 2019 season in oakland. they only have one season left before moving to las vegas. number six, taking a look at the roads overall. we have been quiet. check this out. bay bridge metering lights on at 5:20 this morning. ayatollah commute definitely ramping up. just past metering lights pushed offer the shoulder. >> number seven steph curry

so showers all the way through about 6:00, then a little bit of a tapering this evening. enjoy temperatures in the low- to mid-50s. how about the commute, alexis. >> overall we've been looking good, mike. we still don't have major issues. we're going the right way improving for bart warm springs station. a ten minute delay opinion richmond and daly city, an equipment problem on the track. they did fix that. they are in recovery mode and bouncing back. taking a look at some drive times this morning. those look google, too, westbound albany to the maze in the green five minutes. fremont to san jose 15 minutes. northbound 280 highway 101 to cupertino in the south bay at 11 minutes. developing overpass in the south bay san jose police investigating a reported stabbing at the hilton hotels on almaden boulevard. you can see firefighters examining a man in the neck area. he was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. the video shows officers putting a man in handcuffs in a patrol car. it's unclear what led up to that

incident. now to a bizarre story out of solano county also involving a stabbing. the man accused of stabbing two people is in custody this morning. vacaville police arrested 37-year-old nathaniel holland last night. it all started before 7:00 p.m. at a home on alderwood drive. when police got there they found two stabbing victims and a husband on fire. a witness tells us about the commotion. >> i hear this loud -- what sounded like an explosion. then i see children just running out of the house screaming bloody murder. so i get out of my car, in walk up to the house. the front door is open. it's just engulfed in flames. a four--year-old girl was burned in the fire. police say the stabbing victims are a 16-year-old girl and a 43-year-old woman. both are expected to be okay. the stabbing and fire led to an all-out search for holland. neighbors were asked to stay in their homes and holland was found a short distance away.

vacaville police say there was some sort of confrontation when they took him into custody. shots were fired. both holland and k-9 officer were injured. it's unclear how the events unfolded. developing news about the raiders. the team may be returning to oakland for one last season. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live incidental alameda. amy. >> hi, good morning. executives here are not commenting on this report, but the coliseum authority has created a little bit of hope that maybe the raiders will play in oakland one more the executive director of the bay area authority told the news group there's a possibility the agreement can be reached for the team to play one more season at the coliseum in oakland. the team will still look for another place, but once that research is complete, the report says they will meet with the coliseum one more time. the raiders pulled out of their lease with the coliseum when the

city of oakland sued the team. now the team's owner has said he can't imagine paying for his own lawsuit by playing at the coliseum one more season and bringing in money for the season. but he says he also has to think about the fans. the team looking at the next season including levi's, santa clara, oracle park where the giants play in san francisco. there's no word when this meeting with the coliseum will take place but the nfl wants an answer saying they need to know where the raiders will be playing by the beginning of february. they have to make the schedule. they only have one more season left in the bay area before they head to their new home in las vegas. reporting live in alameda, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thank you, amy. now it's pg&e's moment of crisis. the company is on the verge of declaring bankruptcy. >> when the utility filed for bankruptcy the first time 18 years ago, bills went up. the bankruptcy could also affect how you get your electricity.

san francisco mayor london breed discussed the possibility with abc 7 news. breed said she asked the public utilities commission to study the impact including buying pg&e equipment and infrastructure. >> we are looking at every possibility. everything is on the table. for example, you know, san francisco has a clean power sf program. we provide the power and pg&e distributes the power, the clean power, to our customers. so a distributor potentially who knows. the puc says it will have a preliminary report ready with recommendations in three months. pg&e's bankruptcy is going to continue to generate questions and we are committed to continuing coverage. you can find the stories we've already done online on twitter, facebook and at abc7news.com. the company accused of faking soil samples and falsifying records at the cleanup at the hunters point shipyard is facing new trouble this morning. the justice department is suing tetra tech. federal lawyers for the navy have filed three new lawsuits.

those will replace whistleblower lawsuits by former radiation technicians hired by tetra tech contractors. the suits claim in addition to the two tetra tech employees who admitted to faking the test, several higher level managers are also responsible. a u.s. district judge will meet with attorneys and defendants next month. the remaining third of the 800,000 federal workers will not get paid as the government shutdown enters day 25. that includes up to 53,000 members of the coast guard, the only military service branch working without getting paid. thousands of coast guard members are deployed around the world on active duty. president trump is making it clear that he will not back down telling a group of farmers to stick with him despite short-term pain. several businesses are offering help to federal workers during the shutdown. they include banks offering special credit programs and special mortgages and loan payments. we have links on our website, abc7news.com. happening today the senate

judiciary committee begins the confirmation hearing for attorney general nominee william barr. he'll face questions about president trump and the russia investigation. parr says he's willing to let special counsel robert mueller complete his work. barr would replace jeff sessions who mr. trump fired back in november. in the south bay san jose mayor liccardo will attend his first city council meeting since he was hit by a car. he tweet add photo of him and his staff yesterday. he was wearing a brace. a car hit him on his bike on new year's day. it broke his sternum and vertebrae. he has to undergo months of physical therapy. never more than 7 minutes away from my accuweather forecast. this time of year we could have temperatures in the 20s and 30s but instead we're 48 to 51 degrees. let's look elsewhere. we've got mid-40s to low 50s you believe you get to alameda, one of the warm spots.
