on. we haven't found any damage, any obvious damage as we drive around and take a look. we have, though, talked to people who did feel it. >> lived by the coliseum. i was hanging out, coming to work. i heard or felt a little boom and then a little shake. i got ready to move but there was small -- >> now, take a peek into mulberry's market here in piedmont. that's always a good place to see. has anything fell off the shelves. seen no damage. we talked to people who work here. they haven't seen any issues. they have bottles of wine on the shelves. they're all still standing. lots of good news to report from piedmont. there's probably sleepy people. it was an intense enough jolt that it seems to have woken up a lot of people this morning. reporting live in piedmont, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news.

amy, as long as the line is okay, we're okay. thanks so much. >> oh, boy. after something like an earthquake wakes you up, you can't go back to sleep. >> especially after you hear what's happening with our weather. that's the other big story. live doppler 7 fired up. mike, we can't say this enough. it's going to be a downpour. >> it will be a downpour that lasts for maybe a couple of hours. at least the heavy rain for sure. that's when it's most intense. you'll have the fastest floodsing. that's why we're under a flash flood watch. go through all that of in the next several weather hits. strong gusts to 60 miles per hour. downed trees and power lines. it's a strong storm. 3 on our storm impact scale. we've got light rain in the higher elevations on the peninsula towards the monterey bay. you can see a light shower over the epicenter of where the earthquake was this morning. at least near berkeley and piedmont. there was a small one near los

altos hills. you can see scattered light rain in the north bay. but it comes steadier further into the north bay. like here in san rafael where you can -- i should say walnut creek. we're seeing that light rain also. light rain this morning, heavier at noon. moderate to heavy at 4:00. the storm builds throughout the day. let's find out about the driest commute. but even though it's dry in some areas it's still wet on the roads, frances. >> yeah, mike. it's definitely causing problems out there. in fact, a problem reported on the bay bridge headed westbound in treasure island. there's this accident southbound 680 in sunol that has been blocking a lane. traffic backed up in the same area. there was a truck reportedly going north in the southbound lanes. that's adding to the confusion and the delays. luckily, chp is there. hopefully that clears up fairly quickly. also in the north bay, southbound 101 sausalito at

spencer, mud and rock slides reported in one lane. here's a live shot of 680 and walnut creek, brake lights approaching highway 24. you can see how the weather is affecting the commute on the 680 ride and impacting that accident in the sunol area. reggie, alexis. >> thank you, frances. the highway patrol says the rain was likely a factor in this crash. it delayed drivers on highway 24 last night. a tesla service van overturned. the driver suffered minor injuries. there could be flooding devastated by the camp fire. >> people in burn areas are advised to seek higher grounds. the butte county sheriff issued an evacuation warning for the town of pull ga. if flooding occurs, it can quickly become a dangerous and life-threatening situation. the rest of butte county under a flood watch now. stick with us on abc 7 as we track the wet weather today.

live doppler 7 will show you when the storm moves into the bay area. you can access it right from your phone. download our abc 7 news app. we have breaking news in san francisco. 20 people out of their homes after two house fires this morning. >> it happened near leibig street and san jose avenue. fire crews are still on the scene where matt keller is with the latest. matt? >> reporter: good morning, alexis. you can see a lot of debris inside this home. some of it was brought out to the sidewalk. that's an issue for firefighters. they're on fire watch right now. they want to make sure nothing reignites inside the home this morning. the first call came in at 12:15 on leibig street. they found the home with black smoke pouring out from both floors. fire spread to the attic of an adjacent home. firefighters put up a ladder to the second floor of the first home as they went into rescue mode. they pulled out three people from the building. six others were able to escape to the backyard. four adults and a child were

taken to the hospital. the child has minor injuries. at least two of the adults are in critical condition. firefighters were having a difficult time getting a hose line established inside the home. >> there's a lot of contents in that building. it was hard to get around. we have a picture of the building. see any contents in the windows piled up as well as on the adjacent levels. >> reporter: a firefighter was taken to the hospital to get an injury to their face checked out. 11 people escaped from the adjacent home. 21 people total displaced. firefighters were -- looking for a cause or investigation. >> matt keller. abc 7 news. new this morning, san jose police are looking for these two men. they are the suspects in a deadly shooting at el rancho liquors. this is new surveillance video from outside the store at west alma and alma din avenue. nathan johnson harper was the man shot and killed there last month.

investigators haven't released details about a motive or what led up to a shooting. if you recognize the suspects, call san jose police. >> new at 6:00 a.m., muni drivers and transit fare inspectors will soon see the escalation training and attempt to reduce violent attacks. the examiner reports the board of directors approved a $3 million contract with consulting firms to give anti-escalation tactics to muni -- in an effort to reduce assaults. they called for the training late last year. new at 6:00, oyster harvesting can selds in the north bay. the serious outbreak linked to a popular company. >> colin kaepernick before the rapper agreed on a huge performance. out and about. it's dry early. not raining everywhere. it is still with scattered showers and rain on the roads. it's going to be nothing like this evening. we'll have blinding downpours we'll have blinding downpours and standing water o

moving into the north bay. moving north and keeping you wechlt it's raining very lightly here at the golden gate bridge. out and about today, heavy rain. it's going to be poor there. poor if you're exercising. a wind you can maybe get out there when the wind is lighter like this morning. go to the sierra. it's already developing. it will linger through tomorrow. i'm concerned with the east-west bridge at richmond-san rafael bay bridge. san mateo and the dumbarton bridge. you'll have a cross wind at 50 miles per hour at times. it's really going to be a wiet knuckler for high-profile vehicles starting this afternoon at 1:00. east bay valleys, stray showers until 10:00 and then noon on we get rain becoming thunderstorms. heavier rain during the evening hours. notice everywhere, the temperatures climb throughout the day. even in the evening hours when the intense showers hit the peninsula. your driest period. in the south bay, the driest period is 8:00 to 10:00. then from noon on, the flood gates open.

>> if you're trying to register for the spring semester at ccsf, you have more time. the deadline is extended to february 4th because of major glitches with the college's new computer system. the system went live in november and students almost immediately began reporting problems. school officials say a student should register in person or call the college's help line to get specifics. new this morning, more on that controversy surrounding the super bowl halftime show. >> travis scott reportedly consulted with colin kaepernick

before confirming his super bowl appearance. according to variet magazine, scott and kaepernick had at least one phone conversation before the rapper said yes. some performers turned down the halftime show in support of kap and other players. travis scott and -- will join maroon 5 during the show this year. >> now we'll talk about one of several big stories happening today. the weather. it's going to be quite a mess outside. it starts soon. hi mike. we're seeing light showers right now. you can see there at the bay bridge toll plaza, it is wet. let's jump into the accuweather highlights. windy, heavy showers and thunderstorms more so this afternoon and evening. showers are scattered after midnight. but they'll hang around for tomorrow and there's more chances albeit minor for friday and sunday. the first one, flash flooding everywhere today is possible starting at 3:00.

this afternoon, at 3:00, there's a window of 12 hours where we could have rapidly rising waters. with the sun setting, the best chance of seeing this is going to be when it's dark. be prepared for the darkness and have a flashlight ready and escape route. for lake and solano counties, it starts at 4:00 until 7:00 tomorrow morning. burn scars, the big issue right there with debris floats. winds will be strong in the valleys. up to 50 miles per hour. they start at 1:00 this afternoon. a 14-hour window of noisy weather that could put down some trees, power lines. same thing into the higher elevation but the wind will be faster. up to 60 to 65 miles per hour. here's a look at the storm mainly hitting the north bay with scattered rains for the rest of us. impressive looking storm for us. at 7:00 this morning, scattered showers. by noon, all the way through the evening hours. we even see reds and darker

reds. we're seeing future radar returns never seen before. that's how intense the storms are going to be later on today. thursday is a 2. friday is a 1. both are trending drier. once we get to monday, we've got a couple of weeks with dry weather. frances? >> we're going to sky 7 flying over the bay bridge. you can see traffic is backed up as you approach the maze. you see all the headlights stacked up as you approach the maze. it's backed up into oakland as wechlt i also want to take you to the bay bridge toll plaza where an accident was reported. i saw tow trucks earlier. it looks like they have cleared the crash from the lanes and traffic again as you backed up well into the maze as you saw from sky 7. b.a.r.t. also still reporting ten-minute delays from the earlier earthquake. they were running the trains more slowly and checking the tracks. cal trans and ace trains reporting no trouble. there is a hotspot developing in the north bay. south 101 in sausalito, it will

live over breaking news. b.a.r.t. was delayed for a while this morning because of an earthquake and many of you felt it. we have live coverage from piedmont near the epicenter. our big story this morning, the weather. a live look outside. all right. so it is sort of drizzling in some places now. you're not going to believe what's coming. rain, wind, a deluge if you will. >> uh-huh. good morning on this wednesday, january 16th. we have live doppler 7 behind us. when that hans, it's going to be bad. >> whoop whoop. >> sound the alarm. >> monday we had scattered showers. yesterday a more steady rain. if you thought yesterday was annoying, wait until you see the rest of this forecast. it will go from annoying to down right dangerous. seriously. let's talk about it. set the table right now. you can see scattered light showers there. just showing green on live doppler 7. what to expect the rest of the

day, especially once the clock strikes noon today. that's when the downpours start to roll in and the winds begin around 1:00. flooding, downed trees, that's more likely during the evening hours when the thunderstorms come in and after the soils are saturated to the point they can't handle the downpours. we may have minor mudslides in the steeper terrain today. the storm builds. lighter intensity. noon, it becomes heavier. moderate to heavy. then it becomes intense by 7:00 with the lightning and the thunder and the downpours and the locally faster wind. there it is. frances, how about the commute this morning. >> we have better news now on b.a.r.t. reporting no delays. they're back on time. everything is back on track. here's a live view from sky 7 looking at one of the b.a.r.t. stations in the east bay right now. the bay bridge toll plaza, had a few problems this morning.

traffic is backed up into the maze. at least a 20-minute delay getting to the bay bridge toll. we've got traffic in a few spots. but southbound 101 in sausalito, earlier mud and rockslide at spencer. we're going to try to find out more about this. cars were going by very quickly as they approach the scene. right now, a few little accidents. i'll tell you about that in my next report. reggie, alexis. >> back to the breaking news this morning in the east bay. a small earthquake and two aftershocks fell on the hayward fault at 4:42 this morning. >> if you felt it, it was a 3.4. centered just north of piedmont. abc 7 news reportr amy hollyfield is live with the action. amy? >> reporter: hi, gorngs alexis. we wanted to get to piedmont to check on things. we're finding lots of good news. the lights are on, power is on. we haven't seen any damage. we want to report to you about b.a.r.t. we have a shot of the macarthur b.a.r.t. station for you. want to tell you what they do

when something like this happens. it's standard procedure. they check the tracks for damage. that does create a bit of a delay. they have finished that inspection. everything looks good. trains are running. what we've most noticed about this earthquake is that people did feel it. it was strong enough to jolt people and also knock a few things around. >> i was already getting up, taking a frind to the airport and a cymbal fell down on my drum set in the music room. that sort of woke me up. i felt some shaking. i was brushing my teeth. >> how did you react? >> i said uh-oh. i stopped for a minute and thought oh, no, are we having the big one with all the wet weather and the ground moving. it wasn't. everything is still in place. >> reporter: here's a look inside mulberry's market in piedmont. as you see, everything is still in place. always a good place to check to

see if anything was knocked off the shelves. wine bottles still standing. everything looks good inside. the biggest side effect this morning is probably going to be a lack of sleep. people in this area -- the form of the earthquake, did hit at 4:42 this morning. live in piedmont, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> once you're up, you're up. amy, thank you. we've been updating this breaking news with the news app. you can get customized push alerts where you live any time breaking news happens. developing news from plaster county, a plan accused of shooting at least two people is now dead. >> the sheriff's department tells us the suspected gunman fired at multiple homes from newcastle to loomis. he was found near highway 65 where authorities say the suspect crashed with another driver. deputies moved in to arrest him and shots were fired. the suspect and a canine with hit by bullets. the canine is expected to be

okay. the suspect's identity not released. the identity of the victims not released. berkeley police are investigating a series of brazen robberies. they released a video of one of the attacks involving a group of women. the surveillance video show a violent struggle. they grabbed 89 north face jackets inside young's backpacking on telegraph avenue. one employee got hurt trying to stop them around closing time last wednesday. >> she was going out here. >> earlier on that same day, three women took about 120 pairs of pants from the lululemon store on fourth street before they dashed outside. police are looking for any lengths from that robbery to the young backpacking robbery. >> when you have cases like this, there's varying descriptions and things like

this. they're going to be looking at the video surveillance. >> a group of thieves grabbed items in the berkeley location in july. >> there's more trouble for pg&e this morning. butte county is suing the company over the camp fire. the county claims it sparked from a pg&e high voltage power line that sparked the inferno. county leaders say the company was aware of the risks that the lines posed. it destroyed 18,000 structures and 86 people died. pg&e says the cause of the camp fire hasn't been determined. the company filed for bankruptcy on monday due to wildfire lawsuits. in the south bay, motorized scooters and bike share programs are banned. >> the mercury news reports that the city council voted to extend an emergency ban until december. officials want to create new regulations before launching a pilot program for scooter and bike share companies. the moratorium does not prevent personal riding, only

pre-prohibits companies from placing scooters and bikes. setting up temporary flood barriers. crews started around midnight and out until 8:00 this morning. workers are also on stand by just in case they're needed during the storm. if you live in san francisco, officials say you can report any clogged storm drains by calling 311. rough weather could impact ferry service today. the san francisco-based ferry is warning passengers that rain and winds could make the evening commute difficult and possibly dangerous. ferry operators are ready to suspend service if they think it's not safe to be on the water. if you're thinking about headed to the sierra, cal trans says don't. you're looking at video recorded by cal trans traffic cameras in the mountains last night. both directions of interstate 80 were closed after snow fell off a hillside and on to the roadway. chains are required on 80 from cisco and placid county.

an avalanche warning for back country areas above 7,000 feet around lake tahoe. all of this is to say that we wanted to download the abc 7 news app. you get live doppler 7 on your smartphone. you can track the storm where you live with customized forecasts. we just had a light shower move through san rafael. it's heading up highway 101 and towards novato. you can see right there, next to it, i've put the live camera. definitely drops on there. here's a look at san jose on the other end where it's just mainly cloudy. you can see the residual moisture is still on the streets and highways everywhere this morning. there will be standing water on the evening commute. mass transit, wet and windy. no matter how you commute, the wind and the rain will get you. it will be choppy and windy on the bay. talked about. alexis just did. the ferry rides being canceled. it will also cause danger on the east-west bridges with a cross wind gusting to 52 miles per hour. so not only is it going to be slick and wet, but then you got

that wind that will be pushing you across those bridges. be careful. here we are in the north bay. 8:00 to 8:00. temperatures get warmer. the rain goes from scattered at 8:00 to steady at 10:00 to thunderstorms at 6:00, 8:00 this evening. in the east bay, you can see a little bit of a breakthrough 8:00. scattered showers at 10:00. from noon on, it gets more intense. temperatures climb this evening into the low 60s. san francisco, little bit of a break around 8:00. maybe a spotty shower and 55. scattered showers at 10:00. look from noon on, it gets more intense and the temperature here climbs to 60. you need that warmer air the more buoyant air, the air with more moisture in it to create the thunderstorms. this heechk, scattered light rain. i want to bring in frances to talk about the commute. >> we've had quite a few problems already. spinouts and crashes. if it's bad now, it's going to

be who horrendous this evening. south 101 at spencer, the right lane is blocked due to mud and rocks in the right lane and it looks like this may be a long-term closure. traffic is slowing right now through the area. we'll keep you posted on that. you can find out more on our abc 7 news app. southbound 680 is slow through the sunol grade because of an earlier accident. a new crash reported as well. this is northbound 85 near highway 17. it looks like they're trying to clear to the right hand lanes. you can see northbound 85 is backed up almost to highway 87. i want to show you drive times as well. westbound 580, tracy to dublin. there were earlier problems. 37 minutes for the a drive time. southbound 101, san rafael to san francisco, because of that rockslide in sausalito, right now it's 18 minutes. reggie, alexis? >> thank you, frances. sears could be saved.
