marin chp tells us 52-year-old darren melvin and neighbors were waiting for emergency crews to check out downed power lines but strong winds and rain caused a nearby tree to crack and as melvin ran, a neighbor who was driving a van accidentally hit him. our kids go to the same school. i know that he was a good fit for the school, the whole family was. >> he was a great guy. just not there. >> the chp says the driver who struck melvin is cooperating. drugs and alcohol have been ruled out. treeng lot of calls to clean up toppled trees. an 80-foot spruce tree in walnut creek was knocked down bywe wds being arf eesir severed power la few hours later, a second tree fell on the homeowners' roof.

a police standoff. the service for officer corona is set for 11:00 today. there will be a 40-mile procession to her hometown of arbuckle. in the east bay, attorneys in the ghost ship case are expected back in court today. they want charges brought against a warehouse owners as well as oakland firefighters and police officers. al men a and harris claim they knew about unsafe conditions in the building but did nothing. meanwhile prosecutors want the judge to issue a gag order to stop anyone connected to the case from talking to the media. prosecutors claim it's the only way to keep potential jurors unbiased for the upcoming trial in april. >> they face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter for the deadly fire in 2016. the government shutdown in its 28th day today. federal court has run out of resources and civil cases could be suspended. meanwhile, president trump and

house speaker nancy pelosi continue to exchange political blows. om washington. >> good morning. the political back and forth between house speaker nancy pelosi and the president continues. with no resolution in sight, nearly a million federal workers who have not been paid are going to extreme lengths to make ends meet. it is day 28 of the partial government shutdown. democrats refusing to negotiate with the president until the government reopens. >> while many democrats and the house and senate would like to make a deal, speaker pelosi will not let them negotiate. >> democrats are united behind nancy pelosi, but the house speaker did advise them to go ahead and have discussions with the white house. this comes a day after the speaker suggested president trump reschedule his state of the union address amid the shutdown. >> could have been a week later. and it could be a week if government is open. >> still no word whether the

this is abc 7 mornings. the rain from the big storm gone. but the waves, yep, they're still along the coast. look at the big waves in pacifica. surf is high as 12 feet. our pounding the municipal pier is attracting a lot of people as it always does. some had to scramble to get out of the way of the big waves yesterday. they could be even bigger than that 12. the swells are up to 17 feet now. that means the breakers will be bigger than that. they could reach that thunderous 45-foot mark up until 5:00 this afternoon. let's talk about the sierra. last year, if you bought a season pass, you were disappointed. we were 25% of average. for the first timehis year, we're average if not above. we've got a slight chance of light snow up there. pretty nice in so cal. a lot of sunshine and mid-60s. let's jump ahead to the forecast for the next seven days starting

one of those bluebird days. we have leftover cloud over san jose. we have a chance of showers but we also have a chance of sunshine today, especially the further south you are. the storm is a 1. unsettled through sunday. we have a chance of rain in the north bay again t of us sunday, got an extended period of quiet for pretty much the rest of the month. temperatures in the mid to upper 50s in the north bay. you can see from oakland southward, 60s show up as the white thins out a little bit. that's the cloud cover. it's a little thinner there. tonight will be mild once again. mid-40s to low 50s with our best chance of showers in the north bay. so here's a look at the radar. you can see around mount st. helena where doppler sits, that's the best radar return. expect a wet at times up in the north bay for the morning commute while the rest of us have a chance of a random shower. here we are at 7:00 in the morning, and at 9:00. not picking up a lot of wet
