beating of an 88 year-old grandmother. you may recall the attack it happened earlier this month in the. >> a an 18 year-old man has been arrested for the crime. live at the county jail with what we know about the suspect. >> family very relieved tonight the suspect who police say viciously beat their grandmother is now here in county jail. >> they're hearing about the news themselves. having a suspect in custody. >> reporter: the family of 88 year-old reacting to word an arrest has been made. in her brutal beating. and robbery. >> there's certainly relieved if there's somebody who caused harm to their grandmother, this person might be able to cause harm to another person. >> reporter: 18 year-old was arrested saturday in san francisco. after committing another

robbery. details of that crime are unclear. this was the origin nalnaalnaa m sketch. before breaking into her home nearby. >> i'm glad that a suspect has been apprehended. this is one of the most heinous crimes to do this to a senior. is something that is unheard of. >> she remains in critical condition. with a shattered face and broken spine, hand and ribs. the crime shook the community and pa safety forum was held saturday. assuring neighbors police increased patrol. >> anybody who comes to the community and does something this violent. we'll find them. >> the family says there are signs she is improving. >> she's reacting to family members on their visits. slight improvement. they're very hopeful about what

could see very breezy conditions. with winds gusting close to 45 miles per hour. and there's the chance of a thunder shower popping up. once this front moves through tonight we'll see major changes to the weather pattern. all the details in a few minutes. >> thank you. here in san francisco a coast guard family hurt by the government shut down got a warm welcome and much needed help today. we were at south beach yacht club north of oracle park. members prepared a dinner for servicemen and women. the yacht club wanted to give back to the coast guard. which protects members on the bay. >> we want to be able to say thank you and we're here for you. and if you need anything else, let us know. san francisco is really dependent on the coast guard. for a lot of things. >> there are a lot of folks who are concerned about financial concerns and things like that. local community being friendly and generous helps out.

offering 5% over three years. union leaders said a strike could happen next month if no progress is made. >> meantime in l.a. negotiations are ongoing to try and end a teachers strike there. marathon bargaining sessions have been taking place this weekend. more than 30,000 teachers went on strike on monday demanding higher pay, smaller classes and more support staff. l.a. school district is the second largest in the country with just about 640,000 students. this is the first strike there in 30 years. >> tomorrow of course is martin luther king jr. day. there are lots of events planned. >> a march is planned in san francisco. and several other celebrations. cal train will be running the traditional celebration train. which takes people to the annual celebration in san francisco. it is free and starts in san jose. but you have to register in advance. his son is encouraging people to

happening tonight a rare treat if you look at the sky at the right time and in the right spot. if it's clear. we'll have a lunar eclipse which will create a super-blood wolf moon. >> wow. what a name. joining us live from space and science center? oakland. where there's a watch party going on.

>> there are rain and clouds outside. so they moved the viewing party inside. and it's sold out. it all starts around 7:30 tonight. when the eclipse begins. the big show is between 8:40 and 9:40 p.m. tonight. during that hour, the sun the earth and the moon all line up. and the earth shadow will cover the moon. giving it the deep red color. that is why it's a blood moon. it's also called a super-moon. the full moon will be at the closest to the earth. and the wolf astronomers have been able to predict eclipses for 2,000 years. stop and think about our place in the universe. >> i think people tend to be very focussed on what's going on around them here on earth. and sometimes it's good for people to pause and consider our

you have heavy showers currently. along with the rain is also chilly out there. numbers in our coldest spot are already falling in to the 40s and getting help be cooler air moving in. thanks to gusty wind. look at the winds 31 in oakland. 35 in san carlos. 36 the current wind gust in hayward. a wet and windy evening. we expect the winds to continue for the next several hours. it is for that fact a wind advisory in effect for the bay shoreline. this lasting until tomorrow morning. we could see gusts frequently close to 45 miles per hour. so there's the possibility of we could see sper rattic trees come down. on the storm impact scale it's not a long duration storm. unfortunately. a quick moving system. a level 1. less than half inch of rain. we're talking about those gus 'tis winds close to 45 miles per hour. and through the next hour or so, we do the chance of a thunder shower popping up. later on this evening 8:00 we're

tracking scattered showers across the region. downpours as well. and the main front moves through by 11:30 tonight the showers widely tapers and isolated in nature. tomorrow morning the system is out of here. that will lead to a dry day on the way for the holiday on monday. over night tonight we have the showers right now early on. we'll dry out the sky after midnight. but we'll hang onto a lot of that wind. wind gusts frequently over 30, 40 miles per hour. that will create chilly conditions into the 30s if not 40s tonight. a winter storm warning in effect still for the sierra above 6,000 feet. one to two feet of snow is likely. difficult to impossible travel. hold off if you're traveling until tomorrow afternoon. we'll see conditions improve. a coastal flood advisory into effect tomorrow morning 8:00. coincides with the high tide. that's happening around

11:00 a.m. so once again we could see minor flooding. similar to what we have seen the past few mornings. highs on monday after the cloud cover moves out sunnier skies in the afternoon. dry day tomorrow in the afternoon. but cool. temperatures in the upper 50s. 7-day forecast. once the storm moves out of here tonight, watch what happens. we're talking about sunnier skies warmer weather by friday. talking widespread 60s if not low 70s. >> much of the topic of the championship game was a badly missed pass interference call that would have given saints first and goal on the five with two minutes left. can we talk about greg the leg? amazing game winning field goal. way off rhythm early because of the crowd noise in the super-dome. saints score on the first three possessions but one touch down. 13-0 lead. but the rams come back.

goff finds tyler. a three point game in the third. now here's the controversy. tied in the final minute. no call pass interference on the rams. that would have given the saints first and goal. and easy field goal to win it. they would have controlled the clock. head coach said the nfl did call and apologize after the game. but the damage is done. this goes to over time. saints get the ball first. brees. pass is tipped. and flutters into the hands of johnson for the interception. goff is pumped. all they need is a chance they have the leg. 57 yards. and that sends the rams to the super bowl. the only time they led the game. >> a lot of emotions when the field goal went in. excited to emotional to overwhelmingly happy. and very excited.
