>> we see people taking care of their personal business on the trains, doing drugs and things like that. >> there are a lot of instances where they take over entire seats and a number of seats. >> bart officials say in the first year the homeless outreach team has been in the downtown stations outreach workers made cop tact with more than 700 individuals. 76% of them were connected to services and more than 26% of cases were resolved. meaning they found housing or shelter. >> the biggest dissatisfaction i have with bart is the cleanliness. >> panetta is not alone. 27% of riders surveyed say bart is dirty. the most riders agree the new trains are pretty nice. 23% of riders say they're concerned about crime. bart police officers were in plain view at civic senter today but rider tom mayor says he doesn't usually see officers. >> rarely, rarely, rarely, hardly at all. >> this woman says she is very satisfied with bart. >> i feel very safe using bart. it's not like five star luxury.

of the most notorious bart muni stations in the two systems. one reason, blatant drug use at all times in the day. now passengers seem to have noticed a big change. >> it looks phenomenal when you have bart police and the hot team. they've done an mazing job. i'm pretty happy. >> i do see that it's gotten better, absolutely. >> however, upstairs, just right up here, there is a lot of drug use. >> it wasn't always like this. this video went viral last summer. drug addicts shooting up without impunity as commuters walked through the civic center tunnel that leads to bart and muni trains. this video that shook up not only the public but bart directors. it was taken early in the morning when civic center station just opened when officers were on a shift change. bart told us then big changes were coming. >> the addicts obviously learned the patterns of our officers. they were make changes to those shift patterns, the shift

>> residents can make the same choice that commuters do. they can get their electricity from renewable and carbon free sources. it may cost them less than when they get from pg & e. david louie joins us with more on. this david? >> hi. billboards and three languages popped up in san jose. this one on key street is on vietnamese and others are in spanish and english. mails have gone out across the city to let them know they don't have to do a thing if they want to go with clean energy. 308,000 homes and businesses will be switched to the san jose clean energy program on february 1st. that means san jose will be sourcing their electricity from renewable energy providers generated by hydro, solar and wind. pg & e won't be out of the picture. they still deliver power to customers and handle billing and repairs. residents can opt out. in other words, they can stay with pg & e. however, city officials believe

the benefit of a large scale switch is significant. it will be like removing 35,000 vehicles from the road. >> i think people are used to a message of sacrifice for the environment. en that is sort of the opposite which is that you're going to staff a little. you're doing the right thing. you just have to keep paying your bill. >> the bills are expected to be lower than pg & e's depending on the plans. the basic plan called green source is 45% renewable and 80% carbon free. it will cost a typical homeowner $109.49 per month. the comparable plan is 48 cents higher. for the 100% renewable, 100% cash on free option, the plan is $20 cheaper. the rates already stable as demand for clean energy grows. we don't see a squeeze in the market. and the other thing is that it's not a fixed pie. there are more wind plants that can be plant. there are proper solar plants

injuries from treadmill accidents. good and thanks to consumer reports, we have some advice. a. tragedy struck this pennsylvania home when a 5 yoel boy died after being pulled underneath a treadmill about it moving belt. >> people really don't understand how dangerous this moving belt can >> it's not a good idea to position the treadmill against the wall. if you fall on the treadmill belt continues to turn, you'll get wedged between the wall and treadmill. you need to keep a couple feet on either side of the treadmill and then at least six feet behind it so if you do fall, there is a space for you to escape. >> never allow kids near a treadmill even when you're

a new exhibit at the san francisco art institute is giving audiences a fresh look at the explosive episodes in bay area history. >> powerful stuff. the rise of the black panther movement, the experience is surprisingly intermat and may carry a mess aej fage for all o today. the faces in the photographers reflect the raw emotionst black panther movement, half a century after they were captured. leaders granted unlimited access to two photographers, ruth marianne and her husband perkel jones. >> they were able to go in the kitchen and able to go in the homes. they were able to see these moments among the crowd. >> this woman is a guest curator who grew up with an intimate view of the panthers from her mother whos with a member of the party. she believers the photographs by the two temperature a more

the class of 2019 for the national baseball hall of fame includes four former players. barry bonds is not among them. the leader in walk and home runs received 59.1% of the vote. that is up from 56.4% last year. still far short of the 75% required to be leelected into t hall. roger clemens missed the cut too. their career numbers are worthy of first ballot selection but not enough for the voters to look past their leink to performance enhancing drugs. they removed from the ballot if they don't get 70% over the next three years. rivera topped the class of 2019.
