ray is making at his station, free gas for federal workers who live in fremont and not getting paid. he posted these signs about the offer near the pumps. >> they are fellow countrymen, they are buddies, and they need the money. so we have to help them. >> reporter: remarkably, he plans to give away $20,000 worth of gas. >> it's very stressful and just going to work every day. >> reporter: jennifer was one of the first to accept the offer. she and her husband are both air traffic controllers who haven't been paid over a month but still on the job. they have four kids. this was the family last halloween before bills and expenses started to snowball. >> i was going to have to fill up today before i went home. having this, that's $50 i don't have to spend, which is amazing. >> reporter: dan freeman is another air traffic controller, now on furlough. he jumped at the chance to fill up his suv. >> i just saw it at my house, on my social media, and i'm like, i

"abc7 news" at at a barbershop in san francisco offering free haircuts to federal employees who aren't getting paid.

the owner believes people leave their shop not only looking better but feeling better, too. they usually charge $50 for a men's haircut, located on columbus avenue near the transamerica pyramid. "abc7 news" was in san francisco, as free fresh produce was loaded up at the warehouse and sent over to tsa employees at sfo. officials tell us there are about 100 employees working without pay. >> in the south bay, some peace of mind may be coming for ten tanlt -- ten tanants affecte by the shutdown. it would cover unpaid federal employees and contractors. the city council will meet for a vote on it form. employees at san jose's airport received food assistance today. the airport teamed one a food bank to feed employees impacted by the shutdown. staff also donated personal care

items to support up to 175 federal employees. >> the president tweeted tonight he willedly his state of the union address. he wrote, i will do the address when the shutdown is over. the decision comes after nancy pelosi denied the president use of the house chamber for his speech. he went on to say, there is no venue that can compete with the history, tradition, and importance of the house chamber. i look forward to giving a great state of the union address in the near future. andy field now has the latest on the shutdown. >> reporter: day 33 of the partial government shutdown, and federal workers converged on the capitol. 800,000 furloughed are working without pay. they're worried about putting food on the table. >> living on the help of family

you take action. an oakland school board beating was delayed by protesters. students and teachers who are angry that the district is proposing school closures. kate? >> reporter: well, this closed door session of this meeting started at 4:00, so the school board is here seven hours later. and earlier this evening, this room was filled wall-to-wall with people. now there are just a few dozen folks left. you can see the school board is still there discussing major budget cuts to the district. students and teachers made their frustration heard about budget cuts and potential mergers and closures. >> i'm feeling very upt. the oa board is closing the middle year. >> it's sood thad that we have

the meeting of a grandmother in san francisco. officers arrested the 18-year-old on saturday after they say he committed another robbery. in the two weeks since the woman was found beaten, police say the alleged crime spree included a carjacking and several robberies in the days before his arrest. >> what i can say is his actions speak to somebody that doesn't value human life very much. >> a family spokesperson says she remains in critical condition. in the north bay now, a former walmart employee is accused of stealing from the store by pretending to ring up merchandise. the department of public safety released this photo of some of the stolen items. the 18-year-old angel, and her sister, judy and mother were arrested. police say they admitted to conspiring to steal more than $5700 worth of merchandise.
