against wall funding but promising to operate in good faith. >> hopefully it means a lesson learned. shutting down the government over a policy difference is self-defeating. >> reporter: 800,000 workers missing paychecks. lining up at food banks struggling to pay the bills. this was the scene today as airports flight delays in philadelphia. and florida. due to absent air traffic controllers. irs more than half the 26,000 workers recalled for the tax season didn't show up towork. this coast guard wife inside a food pantry, emotional as she watched the announcement. >> i want to thank the workers and families who have shown extraordinary devotion in the face of the recent hardship. >> if he doesn't get funding in three weeks he is threatening to shut down the government again. or ewe executive power to pay

for the wall. >> all right. so the shut down is over after a record 35 days. back on december 11, president trump told democratic leaders he would be proud to own a government shutdown. and wouldn't blame them for it. on december 19 congress passed a spending bill to keep the government open through february. president trump said he would sign it. however the next day he backtracked. said hi wouldn't sign it unless he got $5 billion for the wall. december 22 the government shutdown began impacting 800,000 federal workers. january 11 many federal workers missed a paycheck. january 12 the shut down breaks the record for longest government shutdown in history. and today the president says he will end the shut down on the same day federal workers miss yet another paycheck. >> conservatives are plablastin the president's decision to open

the government. last month right before the shut down. she says she wouldn't vote for trump again in 2020. without a border wall. speculated her comments led him to shut down the government. >> despite the announcement by the president. the federal workers staged a protest today saying the deal doesn't take a way the uncertainty they're feeling. >> the federal workers i spoke to put it like this. what if you were told you're not getting paid then okay you are getting paid back pay. but in three weeks you may not get paid again. that's how they're feeling. they wish they could walk out on strike. they cannot. so instead they vented their angerer here at the airport. >> outside oakland international airport at noon today. tsa workers, other federal

house. we didn't have anything saved up. just this last week we had to go to the bank and get a loan. to pay the mortgage. >> they're messing with peoples lives. >> her husband has also been exhausted working tons of over time to cover the shifts left open by coworkers calling in sick. this is the third shut down and the longest. and most devastating. >> a follow up on a story we brought you wednesday. a brand new federal employee from sacramento furloughed after only three months on the job missed her first student loan payment. a sur vifr of the paradise fire stepped forward to help. >> until today these two women had only talked on the phone. 26 year-old a lawyer for the federal government who started in september. and was furloughed nd december.

and chris mills of san francisco who wants to pay it forward. the two met today. >> i just wanted somebody to feel as loved as i have been loved since the fire. tag, you're it. >> the fire is the one that destroyed the northern california city of paradise. the states costliest and most destructive ever. chris lost everything and drove off barely escaping with her life. >> i could hear tires popping around me. from the heat. >> she's been putting her life back together. when she saw the story about her not being able to make the first payment on her $200,000 in loans. she decided to mail her a check. >> i'm tickled pink you're here. >> my issues are so small compared to hers. for her to want to give back it was overwhelming. >> there's extra in the check. if you need groceries or whatever. t t sure when she'll get paid. she'll look for an opportunity

meet jessie. and see what makes her this months star. >> reporter: these aren't just anyone's dogs. they belong to clients at paws. pets are wonderful support. founded in the 80s to help patients dying of aids keep and care for pets. it grew out of the food bank. >> clients were coming in. many had pets and. and rather than getting food for themselves they were giving it to their pet. >> enhancing the health, quality of life and well being for people with life threatening conditions. they offer pet supplies. helps owners care for dogs kp helps bathe them. it's all done by volunteer. by our star jessie. she started volunteers six months ago.

she works full-time at google and already recruited 50 coworkers to lend a hand. at paws. >> we started working with google. we were having a hard time filling spots for the program that was created. she is on her own went it town. >> it's an incredible cause. >> net working and the response was so overwhelming. we have this massive thriving volunteer program. all thanks to her taking charge. >> being able to connect with the community across the board. at different levels. knows who to connect and who passionate about the cause. allowed me to spread the word about paws. >> paws has a list of 100 google employees willing to volunteer. google allows them to take 20 hours a quarter to volunteer. >> it's been a win win for us. >> she has been an incredible

many food preparation, office administration and transportation jobs will be the first to be taken over by machines. low wage earners and men will be hit hardest. technical positions are most likely to prevail. along with personal care and domestic service jobs. reports says if your job is repetitive. it won't be around for long. >> monitoring employees and most employees are okay with that. more than half of the big companies monitor employees movement, action and even the employees state of mind. that's according to a report from the world economic forum. 92% of the surveyed said they don't mind being spied on. and believe it could make pay and promotion decisions more accurate. that said some workers were afraid of being treated like a unit of production. instead of a person.
