another check in this morning. >> the owner says he's ready to start it all over again. if after three weeks the families are put in the same situation. the owner of the city cup cafe next to the federal building was relieved to have the government back in business. his furloughed clients staid away. >> it affected me a lot. it dropped business. i had to cut hours for people and cut down the product. it's too much. i have to work hard for it now. >> certainly disconcerning to see so many hoe cal businesses affected by this shut down. it's up to us to support them now more than ever. >> a furloughed lawyer is looking forward to returning to work next week. she has bills to pay and no paycheck. a viewer who saw the profile of her is stepping forward.

to help her out. we have the story. >> reporter: it was a tearful and joil meeting in san francisco. between two women who talked on the phone. 26 year-old a lawyer for the federal government. who started in september and was furloughed in december. and chris mills of san francisco. who wants to pay it forward. the two met today. >> i just wanted somebody to feel as loved as i have been loved since the fire. tag, you're it. >> the one that destroyed the northern california city of paradise. the states costliest and destructive fire ever. chris lost everything. and drove off barely escaping with her life. >> i could hear tires popping around me from the heat. >> she's been putting her life back together. when she saw our story about her not being able to make the first payment on her $200,000 student loan. she decided to mail her a check.

>> officers check to see if people they encounter have an out standing warrant for a crime. that's become a problem. they're blaming a computer system managing records similar to one operating for two years in alameda. since the system went live in november there's been a backlog of warrants. officers say the lives are at risk without up to date warrant information. >> without that we cannot know if someone is wanted for a violent crime. we cannot know who we're pulling over. knows they have a warrant. which we're not going to know. we don't know if the person believes it's better to shoot at a cop rather than go to jail. we won't know if we're letting go a killer. >> however both the court administration and technologies say it's not the
