after-effects 35-day partial government shutdown. >> according to s&p global ratings, we lost $6 billion during the record shutdown. >> some supporters of president trump are speaking out in support of the shutdown saying it shows the size of government can shrink. after signing a deal yesterday to keep the government open for three weeks, the president tweeted about a permanent agreement saying negotiations will start immediately. and, quote, will not be easy to make a deal. he stuck to his pledge to build the wall. federal workers here in the bay area are relieved the shutdown is over but some are nervous it could happen again. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard is live in san francisco with a look at what has changed the day after the deal. cornell? >> reporter: hey, rick. the shutdown is over but it could be another couple of days before attractions like the hyde street pier here in san francisco reopen to the public. it is operated by the national park service. elsewhere, some government workers still need assistance

because they say they're not sure when they're going to get paid. nasa ames worker hopes this is last food giveaway he'll need a for while now that the government shutdown shutdown is over. >> i am relieved with reservation. i'm excited i get to go back to work. >> reporter: he has a family but no paycheck for the last month. he's been forced to sell some prized possessions. >> i sold my guitar during the shutdown. >> reporter: second harvest food bank held this event and know it is still important for struggling families. >> i've heard from many employees that this is a real life saver this week. >> they don't know when they will get paid. >> it will take until the upcoming friday for the first paychecks with back pay to roll in. that is a guess. >> reporter: but the wait could be longer for government contract employees like nate bush. he's stocking up on supplies.

>> this is another two weeks until that check comes. >> reporter: the north bay coast guard spouses club went on facebook during the ongoing food giveaway for military families. many hope another shutdown can be avoided in three weeks. >> we've given the stress and uncertainty over the last month, it is kind of pard to remain 100% -- [ inaudible ]. >> reporter: now officials say other landmarks like fort point under the golden gate bridge could resume normal operations in the next 48 hours along with shuttles to mere woods. federal workers that we talked to said they plan to return to work on monday. in san francisco, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. >> thank you. point rayes national see shore will reopen tomorrow. a spokesperson tells us the visitor center will open and the camping permits will be issued. on monday crews will check

conditions along the 150 miles of trail. >> a gunman is wanted in san jose for an early morning shooting that killed a man. you see police here at the scene at south 10th and east williams streets near the san jose state campus. at this point, they are releasing very few details. this is the city's fourth homicide of the year. there were three homicides in san jose at this time last year. a huge crowd of anti-abortion activists marched through the streets of san francisco this afternoon. abc 7 news was there as the 15th annual walk for life west coast made its way down market street. starting with a rally at civic center plaza and followed by the march ending at embarcadero plaza. they say they are here to speak for those who cannot. the unborn. >> i think we need to see change in america. but part of the change we need to see is protecting those who don't have a voice, who can't protect themselves. >> we did hear of a small counter-protest of abortion rights activists but there was no confrontation. happening ted, preparations

underway in oakland for the official launch of senator kamala harris's presidential campaign. she announced on "good morning america" on monday. but tomorrow's event is being billed as the official launch of her bid for the democratic nomination. crews began setting up for the event this afternoon at the plaza. the rally begins at 12:45 and thousands of people are expected to attend. now as you could imagine, roads will be closed around oakland city hall. here is partial list beginning tomorrow morning. broadway from 12th to 17th and telegraph from 15th to 17th and clay street from 14th to 17th will remain closed until about 4:00 p.m. people are urged to use public transit to and from the event. now b.a.r.t. said passengers should use the 19th street station as the frank ogala exit will be closed. we do have a full list of closures at our website, abc 7 news. bernie sanders will

reportedly make another run for the white house. yahoo news reports that he's considering a bid for months and will make an announcement soon. the reports suggested that sanders was emboldened that saw early polls that put him in the top democrat field. here is a look at players in the crowded field. in addition to sanders, eight democrats have announced presidential bids including kirsten gillibrand and tuesdayy gabbard and john delanie and former west virginia state senator richard ojeda and andrew yang. new details about the bust carrying stanford track team that caught fire. a team was headed to a meet yesterday at the university of washington in seattle when the back of the bus, as you see there, just burst into flames. now investigators think overheated brakes and a blown out rear tire may have sparked the fire. all 31 students and coaches made it out okay. when stanford team made it to

maybe allowed -- then rejected proposed solutions for the problem that some employees called, quote, friendly fraud that led to a lawsuit filed in san jose that accused facebook of gouging teens by permitting them to buy additional features on games. facebook reached a settlement in 2016 and have offered refunds and changed practices. tinder is settling an age discrimination lawsuit after users took a swipe at the dating app. they charged users 30 years and older double the standard fee.

jacket this afternoon. temperatures above average for this time of the year. so live doppler 7 giving you the sweep across the region. we do have cloud cover upstairs but it is not going to give way to any rain tonight or any rain tomorrow. so the picture outside right now, east bay hills camera, that sun is slowly going down. we've been dealing with that deck of cloud cover for much of the day. and it will be a similar sky tomorrow. but despite the cloud cover, we're in store for a mild evening. so over the next couple of hours, the sun goes down shortly at 5:26 and temperatures in the 50s and 60s and not chilly through the evening. by 11:00 temperatures slow to fall into the 50s. so a nice night to be out and about. current temperatures right now, we're still well into the 60s in a lot of spots. 66 in san francisco. about 63 in san jose. a mild 65 in oakland. we're at 60 in napa. half moon bay nice on the coast at 66 degrees. overnight tonight, we're going to keep a fair amount of cloud cover upstairs. so we'll call it a mixture of stars and clouds.

we're rain-free overnight and with that little bit of cloud cover upstairs, temperatures not as cold as we have been in previous nights. so you see on the overnight lows, no one will dip into the 30s. we'll hold in the mid if not low 40s over the next 12 hours. here is the bigger picture. live doppler radar along the west coast, very quiet up and down the west seaboard. high pressure in control and that is keeping any chance of a storm from moving into california and that is going to sit there tomorrow as well. so your 12-hour day planner on sunday. temperatures starting out in the 40s. we'll call it hazy sunshine. a similar sky tomorrow like today. but despite that cloud cover, it will still be a mild day with temperatures topping out in the 60s. so highs on your sunday starting in the south bay with our microclimate, 66 in san jose. about 65 for cupertino and the same in sunnyvale. 74 for redwood city and the same in menlo park and pacifica up to 66 degrees.
