>> announcer: good morning bay area. let's get up and get going. this is "abc 7 mornings." it's sunday, january 27th. good morning and thank you for being with us. i'm here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> it's been tricky by the delta and concord this morning. and still looking at some fog there, settling into the valley. temperatures are slightly milder in spots today, with low 50s in san francisco and oakland, this morning, i should say. 48 in morgan hill. a bit of a wind, 12 to 15 miles an hour here in the city. 44 in petaluma, 46 in livermore.

rally. her campaign says, oakland is a city that represents the underdog, and senator harris is, quote, going to start the campaign where it all started for her. harris was born in oakland, began her political career in the alameda county district attorney's office, rise to go become the first black u.s. senator from california. stacy landry plans to show up to show her support. but she doesn't think harris can win the presidency. >> the problem is she's from california. and she's liberal. and that's not going to win in the rest of the country. >> she's been anti-death-penalty when she was d.a. of san francisco, then defended the death penalty when she was attorney general for the state of california. >> reporter: uc hastings law professor george bouchard says harris is a strong candidate with a proven track record. his concern is whether she can win over the democratic base versus just appeasing the

the 2016 election and subvert the will of the american people. these court documents filed by the special counsel cast stone as an intermediary between the trump campaign and wikileaks, which published e-mails russia stole from the democratic national committee and hillary clinton's campaign chairman john podesta. >> wikileaks, i love wikileaks. >> reporter: prosecutors allege stone was in contact with the organization during the leadup to the organization, seeking information that would be damaging to hillary clinton. mueller does not indicate who it was that directed the campaign official to reach out to stone, but stone now denies havingny contact with wikileaks founder julian assange and claims he did not relay information to the campaign about the hacks. >> the allegation that two campaign officials instructed me or inquired of me about wikileaks is false. >> reporter: tara palmieri, abc news, the white house. this morning we're hearing from roger stone for the first time following his seven-count

indictment by special counsel robert mueller. stone appeared exclusives on "this week with george stephanopoulos." >> are you prepared to spend the last, best years of your life in jail? >> in few of the fact that i expect to be vindicated and that my attorneys, including grant smith, believe that this indictment is thin as piss on a rock, so i'm prepared to fight for my life. i have to go to the public, at stonedefensefund.com to ask for their support. >> stone says he will discuss with his attorneys about cooperating with mueller if asked. he vows to fight the charges and reiterated his support for president trump. a stanford fraternity has won an appeal to keep their campus housing. we told you earlier this month that stanford was planning to kick the fraternity out of the house due to alcohol-related problems. school officials say the fraternity received low scores in the university's eight-point

standard and excellence program. the fraternity appealed the decision and the president told us hey were successful. new details now about the bus carrying stanford's track team that caught on fire. take a look. the team was headed to a meet on friday at the university of washington in seattle when the back of the bus in flames. investigators think overheated brakes and a blown-out rear tire may have caused the fire. all 31 students and coaches made it out okay. when stanford got to the meet, members of the university of washington track team had extra gear standing by just in case. lisa, you've been keeping an eye on the forecast. we're seeing some fog rolling in now. >> that's right, in our east bay valleys it's been pretty tough to get around, but some improvement there. as we look from is hazy. it's moderate, you may be detecting a bit of pollution from our ridge of high pressure that has been in control. it will give way this week..om >> , thanks.

between two emergency rooms, they saw nearly 250 people and only 4% of the riders involved in crashes had their helmets on. a handful of the injured were pedestrians struck by scooter riders or people who had stumbled over them. some of the riders have a had terrifying experiences including one bay area woman who was involved in a crash. >> when you hit the cement at 17 miles an hour, it hurts. >> the injuries varied from cuts and bruises to breaks. doctors say 40% of those hurt had a head injury. at the beginning of the year, california eliminated the requirement that scooter riders must wear a helmet. in the east bay, a popular weekend event is going to shut down for the first time in its history. yesterday abc 7 news was in berkeley for the market at the b.a.r.t. station parking lot. the flea market dates back to 1972. berkeley's site reports to vend. ghirardelli and another candy company are responding to a lawsu

misleading customers with big packaging and little chocolate. prosecutors from six california counties have filed the complaint, saying the packaging is much bigger than the amount of candy included for some products. in some cases the weight is actually less than what's on the label. customers say they've noticed. >> it's very disappointing, especially when i think i'm getting a large quantity and i'm not. >> the candy companies have reached a legal settlement, admitting no wrongdoing, but are agreeing to pay a $750,000 penalty. the lawsuit changed packaging to include a clear part where you can see just how much chocolate is inside. happening tonight, celebrities are in the spotlight for the last big awards show before the oscars. this time it's the actors who get to pick their favorites in the s.a.g. awards. it's the annual ceremony mounted by the screen actors guild. it could give us a sense of who is likely to win at the oscars. abc's chris connolly has a preview. >> reporter: once they've progressed along the red carpet,

but check out what's to come for the week ahead. this is just a preview of what it feels like in canada and parts of the u.s., feeling like minus 5 in chicago. this will descend into the central coast, the central midsection of the country. and we're talking minus 40 windchill in chicago by the middle of the week. you add snow to that, it will spread to the south, north, and east. we'll stay mild as high pressure stays locked in here for the early part of the week. no delays at sfo. looking at patchy fog and mild temperatures this morning. high clouds, lots of sunshine in between those high clouds. so we'll call it hazy afternoon sun. and a chance of rain, more likely friday for everyone. but wednesday things are looking a little bit damp, perhaps. we'll get to that in just a moment. high clouds continue to increase throughout the day. we're starting out dry tomorrow among for your monday morning commute. and as we look at san jose for the week ahead, the average high is 60 today going into the upper 60s. right on through tuesday, very little change. cooler weather with clouds,

maybe a sprinkle around the bay on wednesday, but more likely by the end of the week for the south bay, taking us perhaps into next weekend. let's look at it in more detail. your wednesday forecast shows rain, but the models can't agree on whether or not this is going to happen. if it does, maybe a couple of hundredths, nothing to write home about. by thursday, looks like a dry day in between what could be a wetter afternoon for everyone on friday. this is mid-afternoon friday into friday evening and saturday, still very far away. but the ridge looks like it will break down. we'll see a run to more winter-like precipitation, hopefully by february, which would arrive on friday. highs today in the upper 60s again in oakland, 70 in santa cruz. look for mid-60s santa rosa, napa 69 degrees. overnight lows with a little bit of fog, milder than we should be for this time of year, with upper 40s for most of the accuweather seven-day forecast. hopefully you're enjoying the above average temperatures with

you live. hi, lisa. >> hi, chris. look at what a beautiful shot this is from our east bay hills camera. with all the cloud levels and a little bit of sunshine there, our east bay hills just looking pretty this morning. but there's fog in some of the valleys, so that is creating a few issues around concord. temperatures are mild along the coast with low to mid-50s. 63, though, the outlier in half moon bay. no delays at sfo but elsewhere temperatures are cooler with that fog in the 40s from santa rosa, 46 in livermore. that fog should be lifting within the next hour. we're milder for most of you where you don't have the low clouds. 5 degrees warmer in santa rosa this morning. and throughout the next few hours, the 50s will be replaced by 60s. partly cloudy this afternoon, 2:00. and this hazy afternoon sun will continue through the evening hours. that cloud cover keeping us mild tonight with 50s dropping into the upper 40s. so we will look for another day or two of above average numbers before things change and you should feel a little bit more

her brother before killing his own parents. >> two possible deceased by gunshots, suspect possibly still on scene. be advised, possibly three deceased patients. >> reporter: 20-year-old summer earnest, her father billy and her teenaged brother tanner all found shot in their livingston home early saturday morning. police say two young children made it out of the home alive. >> those children that walked to the neighbor's house, a 7-year-old female, 1-year-old male, need to be checked out, there were barefoot and cold. >> reporter: according to authorities, theriot then stole summer's car, driving to his parents' home in ascension. >> he shot both his mother and his father. the father was gravely injured at the time we found him and since passed away. we were able to get a dying declaration from him, enough information to let us know it was his son that committed this act. >> reporter: authorities say theriot traveled across several states before being captured in richmond county, virginia. he faces several charges including first-degree murder.

>> in the last few years it has been the worst domestic violence we've seen in ascension. >> he's an armed and dangerous guy so anybody he comes in contact with could be a target. >> reporter: arielle rashaf, abc news, new york. the federal government is slowly coming back to life but a new warning from the president is putting the country on edge. the government was open 24 hours when the president tweeted that it would close again after signing a spending bill to fund the government for three weeks. trump tweeted, 21 days goes very quickly, negotiations with democrats will start immediately. will not be easy to make a deal. both parties very dug in. we will build the wall. he echoed the same sentiment in the rose garden. >> if we don't get a fair deal from congress, the government will either shut down on february 15th again, or i will use the powers afforded to me under the laws and the constitution of the united states to address this

everybody. i'm larry beil. >> announcer: now your accuweather forecast with lisa argen. good sunday morning to you. we do have a bit of haze out there. high pressure has been in control for the past several days. it loosely those pollutants getting trapped to the surface here in san francisco. air quality moderate. we are looking at a pretty nice day on the peninsula with temperatures in the mid- to upper 60s. this is the way it's going to look in fountain view for the week ahead. 67 right now. day to day, some very minor changes. we are about 65% of normal on the peninsula for our rainfall. so we need more rain by the end of the week. you notice the cooler numbers. we could see some showers in here by friday. but a better chance mid-week for some of you. exploratorium camera, you can see a little foggy out there and hazy with numbers pretty mild in san francisco. we've had the fog trapping some of the cooler air at the surface and our valleys. live doppler 7 detecting a ridge of high pressure offshore.

you can see the arc of the clouds going up and over that ridge. it's a dirty ridge of high pressure allowing for high toay yesterday was 71, very similar today. 54 downtown, 53 in oakland, 50 in san jose. half moon bay, a bit of an offshore push allowing for numbers to be in the low 60s there. pier 39 camera with some sunshine for the sea lions, also some clouds with mid-40s in the north bay. also in livermore, 46 degrees, a little cool there, with upper 40s in petaluma. it's been a milder start to the day. right now we are 7 degrees milder than we were 24 hours ago at this time. and those northeasterly winds yesterday bringing in some of that cooler air, they've switched around and warmed up yesterday, holding on to some of that warmth. lake tahoe, from the 20s going to 56 today. we could see some rain by the end of the week here. patchy marine fog with milder

numbers, high clouds and sun again today. chance of rain on wednesday, for some of you a better chance by the end of the week. we're starting out dry. the last few days of january should be dry. but by wednesday, the 30th, we could get some rain. as we get into february, by friday and saturday, looking like much of the state will be wet. maybe a third of an inch of rain. check back with us, it's good six, seven days out. as for today you can enjoy those upper 60s in san jose. 66 in santa clara. on the coast, another pretty day out there with 65 san mateo, san francisco mid-60s. a good ten degrees above average for you in santa rosa, 66. near east bay, 65. if you head inland, you'll see numbers still very mild with 66 in pittsburgh. concord at 67 degrees. the accuweather seven-day forecast, dry and mild. above average today, tomorrow, with the cloudiness, though, that will keep us mild at night as well. download our accuweather app.

and a bucket any time between 10:00 and noon. coffee and snacks provided. not a bad day to get out there and help clean up the beaches. >> definitely. mid-60s to near 70, the further south you go. and as we look at the week ahead in the livermore valley, it's going to stay mild today. mid-60s. little change for the next few days as we stay dry. parts of the bay could get wet on wednesday. more likely the end of the week. elsewhere, checking out numbers, 69 in napa, 68 in oakland, that's what you had yesterday. with the high clouds in control, little change. air quality not the best in parts of the bay area but we stay dry until at least wednesday with a slight chance of showers. as that ridge begins to break down, hopefully a stronger trough moves in on friday. that would bring more widespread rain, cooler temperatures. looking too warm for snow in the mountains. could be rain in the sierra by the end of the week. thanks for joining us on
