the team reach heights it hadn't seen in decades. live from the ballpark in san francisco. that he helped build and has reaction with the passing. >> absolutely. i just got off the phone with giants president and ceo. who tells me his close friend and mentor died at home in pacific heights today after a courageous battle with cancer. mcgown was 76 years old. he did use to work for safe way. but in 1993, he became managering general partner of the giants and did that for 15 years until 2008. he led the effort to buy the giants which was on the brink of moving to florida. he spearheaded construction of the new park. which was funded through private money instead of taxpayer dollars. which was unusual at the time in baseball. the park opened in 2000. i spoke to giants fans and a

tour gud here. to them and so many he was the force behind keeping baseball here in san francisco. >> i'm just heartbroken. what a prince. he was such an extraordinary influence on the city. and for any of us who cared about baseball. >> you could trust him. he was the kind of owner that cared about the team and the fans. >> where we are standing now, would be a warehouse and decaying piers. had it not been for the vision, the persistence, the love of baseball. that mr. mcgown, larry a the entire giants ownership group brought to the project. >> just this past week the giants announced on february 9 during the fan fest, he would be inducted into the giants wall of fame. tonight because of his passing the date of the ceremony will likely change. he grew up in new york city and grew up a giants fan.

way. we'll have all the changes in a few minutes. >> thanks. nw details in a hit and run crash that critically injured a teenage boy. the accused driver now facing charges. and she was on probation for a similar crime. we sat down with the boys family. >> the woman shown in this cell phone video who allegedly ran over a teenager with her car and left the scene is now behind bars in alameda county. 36 year-old is facing multiple felonies. for the january 2 hit and run that left 14 year-old severely injured. the boy was riding his bike when police say a car struck him and dragged him for several blocks. the allegations include assault with a deadly weapon. reckless driving and leaving the scene of the accident. according to an arrest warrant, she was already on probation after her conviction three months ago for felony dui.
