expected to clear the backlog until next week. families, including the janitorial workers for nasa ames lined up at food pantries. some federal workers filed for unemployment. although the 800,000 or so employees impacted by the shutdown are starting their first full week. they're concerned about backlog, back pay and a threat to shut down the government again. >> i am so grateful that this seems to be over for now. but i'm nervous because it's really just a band-aid. i am afraid that we'll be in the same exact position in three weeks. >> reporter: tax filing season starting on monday. a government watchdog group is warning about a major backlog at the agency and the workers here at nasa hoping they won't see another work stoppage. reporting live, matt keller. >> we apologize for the audio problems. we'll get that worked out next time we see matt. kamala harris officially

a woman was on escondido road thursday morning when a man restrained and groped her. the woman knows the suspect. we're getting a better idea of how many homeless are on the bay area streets. marin county is doing its count right now. this is something the federal government requires every two years in order to get federal aid. the results will be available later this year. marin county's last count found a little more than 1100 homeless. that was a drop from the previous count. there was a spike in the number of people considered chronically homeless. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. 51 on the sunset. 57. temperatures are mainly around 54 to 53 degrees and a very mild san francisco this morning. still very mild in belmont. 54 also. we've got daly city at 52. san leandro, union city, waking up at 50. not far behind, sar towinga walnut creek, tracy at 49 to 48.

is on schedule. the two men arrested in this road rage incidents will be in court today. it's a fight between two drivers that started with a fender bender and escalated into a dangerous ordeal o a massachusetts highway. the man is clinging to the hood of this suv. the 65-year-old held on for about three miles while the other driver, mark fitzgerald, reached speeds of up to 70 miles an hour. >> i just kept telling him, stop the car. stop the car. he wouldn't stop. i thought he was going to run over me. >> fitzgerald -- look at the gun pulled out. >> got bogged down in traffic then a witness with a permit to carry a concealed weapon ordered fitzgerald out of the suv at gunpoint. troopers arrived, fitzgerald was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. the 65-year-old was arrested on disorderly conduct. it's a mess. in gma first look, the family of a sick little girl in

he tweeted out, i'm extremely saddened by the passing of peter magowan. i will never forget our first call about the possibility of me coming home to play. he saved baseball for san francisco and he will be greatly missed. sending my love and prayers to debi and the family. i love you. peter magowan. he died in his home of cancer. he was known for sitting right behind the dugout with the fans and many of them say they will never forget him. >> first they saved the franchise in 1992 when it was sold to a group in tampa florida. then their vision was to get out o old candlestick park. they, despite ballot measures trying to get public money to construct this beautiful ballpark, decided to -- they had to privately finance the ballpark themselves. >> reporter: the stadium opened in 2000.

curative. he's being treated as an oakland hospital and is optimistic about his diagnosis and getting back into the pool to train for the 2020 tokyo games. the city of huntington beach is fighting back against the state. it's got dueling lawsuits. it's southeast of los angeles. last week governor newsom's administration announced it's suing the city saying it's deliberately blocking affordable housing, which is against state law. now, huntington beach is suing the state to overturn a different housing law, this law accelerates approving housing projects if they offer affordable housing. the lawsuit says the law is an overreach and the city matters. senator scott wiener from san francisco wrote the law and says the lack of housing in california means the state needs to set standards. there's new concerns surrounding facebook and its plan to integrate messaging services from whatsapp, instagram and facebook messenger. critics say it raises security
