>> t.j. holmes is there. >> reporter: the rams and patriots wednesday held their first practi they're not the only ones working on game plans. law enforcement from multiple agencies are executing a plan years in the making. >> protecting an event such as a super bowl is no easy task. >> reporter: u.s. customs and border protections gave us a look at their surveillance mission from a blackhawk helicopter. >> they are making sure no aircraft gets near to the stadium on game day. >> reporter: authorities tell us there are no specific threats to the super bowl, still federal, state and local agencies are on high alert, using dogs, drones, and over 10,000 cameras to secure the game. the department of homeland security alone is contributing 600 officers. >> we are bringing some of our x-ray scanning technology that we typically use at the border here to the venue to scan every

to your intelligent chiefs about the displeasure you had with their testimony? >> i did. they were totally misquoted and taken out of context. i suggest you call them. they said it was fake news. >> reporter: the quotes, played out on live television. the intelligence chiefs contradicting the president on several issues, on isis. >> we have won against isis. >> reporter: the director of national intelligence says isis remains a big threat. >> isis is intent on resurging and commands thousands of fighters in iraq and syria. >> reporter: on north korea, the president said kim jong-un is willing to give up his nuclear weapons. cia director, gina haspel says, not so. >> the r i committed toveloping missile that will pose a direct threat on the united states. >> reporter: on the president's claim with iran and nuclear

weapons -- >> we do not believe iran is currently undertaking activities to produce a nuclear device. >> reporter: those comments so infuriated the president, he tweeted perhaps intelligence should go back to school. as the president was saying, the intelligence chiefs say they were misquoted. he urged reporters to call them. we reached out to the cia and got a simple, no comment. we e-mailed and called the director of national intelligence and didn't get any response at all. jonathan karl, abc news, white house. >> thanks to jonathan there. the mystery calls made by donald trump jr. to two blocked numbers before and after the 2016 trump tower meeting with russians. president trump was not on the suspected and promoted as possible evidence the president brian france, a real estate developer in russia. they have known the president for decades. federal people said they made the biggest fentanyl bust ever.

they showed off the 255 pounds of the synthetic drug along with 400 pounds of methamphetamine at the border in arizona. the street value of the drugs is close to $5 million. it was found in the secret compartment of a truck bringing produce from mexico into arizona. cdc says fentanyl is the most most used drug in fay toll overdoses in the u.s. police wrapped up a crackdown of trafficking. 50 victims were rescued and some were forced into prostitution by traffickers or pimps. they are responsible for 340 arrests. despite the success, there's a lot more work to be done. nearly half of all americans have heart disease. a study from the american heart association says americans deal with cardiovascular disease. it's up from 92 million five years ago.

a new jersey man is being charged with insurance fraud for allegedly staging a slip and fall. prosecutors say this surveillance footage shows 57-year-old alexander kalinsky appearing to dump ice on a floor of a company where he was a sub contractor. authorities say he -- kenneth stop it. he later filed insurance claims. i know. for injuries from a fall. >> i'm done. >> yeah. >> i mean, to put ice down and then lay down. >> he's like, oh -- >> yeah. it looked legit. >> no, it didn't. stop it. >> okay. we are learning new details this morning about the little girl pinned by two rhinos within seconds of slipping through the bars of a rhino exhibit. >> very serious here. her injuries are worse than first thought.

victor oquendo has the latest on her condition. >> reporter: for the first time we are seeing a florida toddler hours after she fell into a florida fish and wildlife revealing in a new report how serious the injuries were, a lace rated liver, bruced lung, injured kidney and numerous contusions to her abdomen, back and head. >> this is never going to happen again. >> we had a child fall off the african platform into the rhino exhibit. >> reporter: the girl taking part in an interactive exhibit when she fell through the eight-inch gap through the posts, and then the rhinos faced the child and pinned her with their snouts against the post. >> they ran the child out. >> reporter: the girl spending six days in the hospital, the entire encounter lasting seconds. in order to prevent something like this from happening again, the zoo is proposing a netting system that would make it impossible for someone to fall in. victor oquendo, abc news, miami

he is the quarterback for the patriots. if he wins on sunday, he will have more super bowl rings than any player in nfl history. a supermodel and from the movie, "taxi." sorry, back to sports. the rams qb is jared goff. at age 24 is 17 years younger than tom brady. speaking of age differences, the pats head coach is bill belichick, he is 66 and been here nine times. the rams head coach is 33, the youngest head coach in the nfl. and if you don't know what to say during the game, point out that mcvey needs a guy to stay with him at all times to keep him from walking on to the field and keep him out of the ref's way. rob gronkowski is 87 on the pats. he plays tight end. his abs look like this. this is how he dances in public. people call him gronk. and somebody else to look out for, male cheerleaders at the super bowl.

the same polar blast that wreaked havoc in the midwest is now moving east. the death toll rising as the deep freeze moves east. on interstate 81 north of syracuse, vehicle after vehicle stranded after sliding off the road. whiteout conditions from lake-effect snow making travel impossible. at least 13 people have died since the polar invasion began. police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old university of iowa student, gerald bells. the pre-med major discovered outside a campus building in negative 51 degree windchill. across the midwest, the cold shattering records. the chicago river completely frozen over. officials are urging people to stay indoors because of the treacherous driving conditions and the severe threat of frostbite. some parts of up state new york got more than 20 inches of snow, 30-mile-per-hour winds and it's not done yet. i am whit johnson in new york. >> thanks to whit there. chicago's brutal cold made a

court documents. accusing the police department of obstructing. linsey davis has details. >> reporter: the st. louis police officer who fatally shot his colleague allegedly during a game now out on bail and ordered to turn over his guns. >> circumstances surrounding the shooting were much more reckless and dangerous than what i had originally understood. >> reporter: court documents allege he recklessly discharged a firearm resulting in the death of another officer and consumed alcoholic beverages while on duty. the police chief lashing out at the prosecutor who sent him this blistering letter, accusing police of obstructing evidence and questioning why they only took urine and breath tests but no blood tests. calling the accusations -- >> unwarranted, certainly untimely and absolutely irresponsible. >> reporter: police say caitlyn alex was off duty and playing a game similar to russian roulette with the officer who was on duty

at the time when he shot her in the chest. alex's parents are also questioning what happened. >> we need more answers. >> reporter: because the officer who allegedly fired the fatal shot was on duty at the time and was supposed to be out on patrol, but instead was at home, the department says effective immediately they are going to make several changes, including verifying officers' locations hourly. linsey davis, abc news, new york. >> incredible details from linsey there. thank you, linsey. and police in augustine, florida, are investigating a shooting. the victim whose name has not been released had been conducting their own investigation into the 2010 death of 24-year-old michelle o'connell, the girlfriend of a local sheriff's deputy. her death was ruled a suicide but her family believes she was murdered. we now know what caused a housekeeper to get stuck in a manhattan town house elevator for three days. inspectors say the elevator's motor burned out and failed and

left the woman stranded. the emergency phone in the elevator was not working. violations could cost the billionaire owner up to $60,000, and the 53-year-old woman released a statement saying i am doing well and enjoy working for the stevens family and my feelings about what i do remain unchanged. a democratic group in iowa wants to hear from cardi b. she has been asked to attend a democratic reception while in des moines in may. her opposition to the president is well documented. so far her only reaction is a tweet asking, should i? should she? >> she should. >> cardi made a court appearance here in new york from her involvement in an alleged involvement in a strip club brawl. she had to sign documents that stop her from being in touch with people injured in the altercation. cardi's lawyer says cardi did not harm anybody.

things got really heated in the stands during a miami heat game as the heat tried to beat the chicago bulls. a man got into a fight with two police officers that tried to remove him from the arena. you can see the man fell and police fell down several rows of seats and even tumbling on to other people. police say he was intoxicated and belligerent before they arrived. >> hope the officers were not injured in that. a jetblue fight leaving los angeles was in the air less than an hour when it was forced to turn back and make an emergency landing. >> the captain came on to the pa system and confirmed the plane had been struck by lightning.
