at the coast and santa cruz. a eucalyptus tree came down at 9th avenue at twin lakes beach. it knocked out power there. the road will be closed until they get the tree removed. a lot of localized flooding on the connector ramp. 280 to 87. puddles everywhere on the road in the south bay. you want to be extra careful about that localized flooding. if you're in the mountains, be careful about debris in the roadway. i told you about that mudslide on niles canyon road. my advice, you may be the first person that is hitting that debris and coming across that debris this morning. you want to go extra slow around the corners and be extra careful getting on to the connector ramps. obviously, you can see a lot of localized flooding. >> driving this morning. you can track the rain and check the weather conditions with our

track the scattered showers. could have a brief downpour from time to time. even a slight chance of a thunder shower popping up in the afternoon. if one does, we could see isolated hail. we're tracking later on tonight as cold air rushes into the storm. we could see a mix of rain and snow in the highest peak. a much closer look going hour by hour. first, let's get a check of the roads. a lot to talk about this morning already. i want to take you out to the fremont sunol area, niles canyon road that matt just talked about. it sound like one vehicle involved. airbags were deployed. so we've got a closure there. you're shut down between mission road and the sunol area. easy alternate to get through that area. that will be state route 238 to 680 and vice versa. if you're coming from the tri-valley. definitely have to avoid that. that could last up to a couple

days. we'll hear from him shortly. tracy dublin, 35 minutes. antioch to con roared in the green, 14 minutes. >> thank you, alexis. in the east bay, police are investigating a shooting that left a man with critical injuries in antioch. reports of shots fired before 2:00 yesterday afternoon near lemon tree way and sycamore drive. the victim is 30 years old and police haven't released any more information. >> we're learning more about the father of seven killed in a wrong-way crash in san francisco. he lived in concord. a driver hit his minivan head on early yesterday morning on highway 101. that driver also died. several passengers riding with him were among the nine injured. friends say he was driving for uber at the time of the crash. >> he was a very hard working guy. he came to u.s. about four years ago to look for a different opportunity and better life for his children and his family.

it's just very hard to even haen. it's very unfortunate. it's not his fault. >> the crash is still under investigation. the chp says drugs and alcohol may have been involved. as we mentioned, he leaves behind seven children and a go fund me page has been set up to help his family with funeral expenses. we have a link on our website, abc7news.com. uber issued a statement after his death saying "this was a horribly tragic ins dentd and our hearts go out to the victim and his grieving family. we stand ready to work with authorities to assist their investigation in any way we can." we're learning more about a plane crash in southern california. authorities confirm five people were killed here yesterday afternoon. this cell phone video posted to twitter showed heavy smoke and flames. after the plane crashed into a home in i don't remember ba linda. here are the details.

>> residents rushed into the streets after a small plane crashes into a home in their neighborhood. >> i have a single family residence fully pen gulfed at this time with reports of four people missing. >> firefighters responding to the scene. >> we found a well-involved residence, two-story family dwelling with fire showing from all sides. they did notice that there was some debris from a small aircraft. the rest of the aircraft was located to the rear of the residence. >> from above, you can see the extensive damage, a huge hole. firefighters working quickly to stop the flames from spreading to other homes. >> five individuals deceased. one is the pilot, a male. four were in the residence. two males and two females. >> one firefighter suffered minor injuries. smoke from the fire could be seen for miles. witnesses in the area described hearing a loud boom. >> we heard the plane winding like -- and we heard an

explosion in the sky and it shook our house really -- so much, i like immediately went to the ground. >> debris scattered throughout the neighborhood. a small piece of wreckage could be seen in the street. one neighbor tried to douse the flames with a hose. help santa rosa rebuild after the north bay wildfires. kaiser is donating, $1.6 million to help build a new apartment complex. kaiser's main campus borders the mobile home park which was destroyed in the tubbs fire. kaiser donation will help build 160 apartments on the burned property. developers are also looking to collaborate with kaiser on health care programs for future residents. the pentagon confirms nearly 4,000 additional active duty troops are headed to the southern border to support customs and border protection. they will be adding about 150

miles of wire between ports of entry. the new troops are expected to deploy later this month. there are 2300 troops along the border in california, arizona and texas. now to the snoozer bowl. >> fans of the patriots are celebrating a win. these are videos of fans dancing with the streets. they beat the rams 13-3. it was the lowest scoring super bowl in the 53-year history. this is the patriots sixth super bowl championship. the team will hold a victory parade tomorrow. the super bowl, of course, featured several players with ties to the bay area. >> patriots receiver and punt returner julian edelman was born in redwood city. he went to wood side high and he was awarded the mvp award. >> make a couple plays. we were able to do that. there was a lot of plays by a lot of their guys. defense was unreal.

to call on an american sign language interpreter to help them at crime scenes. the san francisco examiner reports the video chatting tool is in response to complaints over communication barriers between officers and the deaf or hard of hearing. they're expected to vote on a policy including step by step procedures for officers to follow when interacting with witnesses, deaf victims or perpetrators. if your office is a little empty today, you are not alone. millions of employees are expected to call in sick this morning all because of the super bowl. >> some of them might have died of boredom. a survey found 14 million adults will miss work today after the big game. more than 8 million of the workers are taking a pre-approved day off according to employment firm challenger gray and christmas. it's expected to cost more than 4 billion bucks. bosses are expected to cut back hours today. marin 5 headlined the super bowl show with travis scott and

as you step out the door, 40s and low 50s. need the umbrella too as you go outside. we're seeing that rain sticking with us. future weather, hour by hour, 9:00 this morning, still we're tracking those showers through parts of the region. it's an unsettled day throughout the day, even into the afternoon, we're still seeing the showers popping up in spots. what we're watching, as the sun goes down and cooler air moves in here, you see these white colors on your screen. plus ukiah and mt. hamilton and mostly sunny diablo, we could see mixing of rain and snow in our high peaks later on tonight. something we'll be tracking. but it's all about precipitation today. a lot of cloud cover, scattered showers on and off. it's a cool day. temperatures only topping out in the low 50s. here's the forecast. showers today. again tomorrow, there's that chance of mixed precip at our highest peaks. the story wednesday and thursday morning, cold mornings on the way in 20s and 30s.

let's get a check of the roads, alexis. >> not doing great. a lot of issues already on the roads today. i think the rain has a lot to do with it. we have a sig-alert. both directions of 101 are closed due to this crash initially. now, we're down to two lanes closed on the southbound side. started off as a disabled vehicle. northbound 280 south of there before the 101 merge, we also have a flipped pickup truck that took out barrels as well. we've got one lane open both northbound and southbound on 280 in that area. a couple of pretty big problems. fortunate fortunately, it's early enough, there's not a huge backup for either of those. a quick check outside. walnut creek starting to fill in. the road spray is kicking up. have the wipers on high. give yourself a few extra minutes this morning. thanks, alexis. netflix said its viewership plunged as they ditched the streaming service in favor of the super bowl.

minutes. the cost of child care is rising in the bay area. the inside center for community economic development. compare the cost of monthly child care in 2014 to the year 2018. the medium cost of child care for preschool age kids rose 40% in the bay yar from $1,000 a month to $1500 a month. the biggest jumps in san francisco where the cost rose 55% and in marin county where it rose 54%. >> we wonder why there are no kids in the city. there you go. >> the fate of sears in the hands of the bankruptcy court. the judge will address the future of the company and the 45,000 employees. 425 stores to chairman eddie lampert. lampert has been accused of misconduct. sesiled bankruptcy wi t hopes of remaining in business. a food -- has plans to expand nationwide. you're looking at curry up now.
