east. pleasanton, you're likely going to see the downpour around 5:29, later on this morning. it is just a wet window out there this morning. here's the 12-hour day planner. take the rain gear with you. we have isolated showers throughout the entire day. could even see a rain/snow mix in the higher peaks. first, let's look at the roads. alexis, good morning. >> got great, drew. 20 incidents on the roads already. serious crashes overnight. looks like our focus is on the water that's on our lens here for golden gate bridge. there are some vehicles southbound on 101. no major issues here. just wanted to show you shall, yep, it's soggy here. you have to use your wipers. i have live doppler 7 on top of the maps. some moderate in a few areas, niles canyon road, it's purple here. we had a mudslide and it caused a collision. we have a full closure where we will find abc news reporter matt keller. he just arrived where that

begins at mission boulevard. matt, what are you seeing? >> reporter: hi alexis. we're seeing a lot of rain. the downpours really started just about two minutes ago as we landed here. it's really coming down right here in fremont. also, you could see that fremont police are blocking off niles canyon road. this is going to be a big issue for commuters this morning. first call at 3:40 this morning. mudslides caused a crash. this is coming from the fremont side. alameda countyire advising the chp the canyon could be shut down for the next week. the rain is not stopping. only intensifying this morning in fremont. you want to be extra careful out there on the roads. reporting live in fremont, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> that is a lot of rain coming down. be careful out there. thousands of oakland

families will see if teachers voted to go on strike. >> amy hollyfield is live for us in oakland. amy? >> reporter: hi, good morning. a big announcement coming today. they're going to make that announcement here at oakland tech high school. they have gotten a lot of support from the students here at this school. here's video from them on friday when the students walked out of oakland tech to show solidarity with the teachers. teachers have been working without a contract since july of 2017. they are fighting for smaller class sizes. but the real sticking point is their salaries. oakland teachers want a 12% raise over three years. they say they need it to be able to afford to live in the bay area. the school district is offering 5% over three years. there's a big gap there. they have staged a few walkouts this school year. now they have voted on whether to go on strike and the announcement, the results of that vote will be held at 4:00 this afternoon.

reporting live in oakland, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. amy, thank you. just in case you missed it, the patriots took home the top title in super bowl liii. now boston is getting ready to celebrate. they will hold a victory parade tomorrow. something they're used to by now. the patriots beat the rams 13-3. this is their sixth super bowl win. they're now tied for most all-time with the pittsburgh steelers. >> couldn't get the points on the board and for one reason or another. in the end, it feels a lot better than last year when we did get points on the board. just a great win for our team. >> we left so much out there on the field. it's so hard to take right now. you know, i'm mad at myself. i wish i would have done things differently. >> the mayor of boston is expected to announce full parade details sometime later today. meanwhile, the mayor of novato will be cutting a check to san

mat mateo's police activity league following a super bowl bet. >> the mayors of the cities were rooting for their abc 7 news reporter pena introduces us to some of their loyal fans. >> just here because jared is from novato. i'm rooting for the rams. >> this was the sentiment of many novato residents. >> originally from l.a., grew up a rams fan and now also lived near marin catholic where jared goff played high school football. he came into the science department a lot asking questions. respectful, humble. very hard working. >> inside finnegan's jared goff's favorite restaurant in tune, seemed like even the menu was rooting for him. >> we have the goff burger on our menu.

city slapped them and the nfl with an anti-trust lawsuit for leaving town. members of the group make oakland better recorded a public service announcement supporting the lawsuit. >> for committing crimes against our greatest culture, violating the own relocation guidelines. >> up against an early february deadline to decide on their 2019 plans, the raiders are now reconsidering the coliseum. along with levi's stadium in santa clara and oracle park in san francisco. a source familiar with the situation tells abc 7 news the 49ers have not waived their rights to the san francisco market and the nfl has not approved any deal. both of those would have to happen if the raiders were to play anywhere but the coliseum. >> wow. >> there is a lot to go through still. you know what, that whole legendary story is more interesting than the actual

super bowl. hi, drew. >> something is happening. we've got a lot happening in weather right now. live doppler 7. a winter storm right over us right now. light to moderate showers. let's take a zoom into street level in a couple of spots. north of dublin, that pop of yellow is, we have a downpour. i'm going to track that off to the north and east. antioch shortly before 6:00 this morning. expect a heavier downpour to work through your neighborhood. moments ago, we saw matt keller live in fremont. this downpour that pushed off to the east moved through with heavy rain working through the east bay. about half an inch per hour. that is heavy rain right now. if we track that, that's often moving up to the north and east at 25 miles per hour. pleasanton, probably around 5:28 a.m., livermore, 5:37 this morning. expect that downpour in your neck of the woods. san francisco right now, light

rain across much of the city. light rain through novato, san rafael and as we look at the storm impact scale, this level one-like system will stick with us throughout the entire day. we'll have showers, a brief downpour from time to time. there is a chance of a thunderstorm popping up in the afternoon. then late tonight in our highest peaks, we could see a mix of rain and snow. mt. tam or each on mt. hamilton. take the rain gear with you. you need it all day today. let's check on the roads with the rain. good morning, alexis. >> good morning, drew. i have something not rain-related. but it sounds like a big issue. walnut creek, starting to see heavy traffic southbound 680. this is north of the 24 split. if you are continuing on to 24, hopefully, you won't see too much of a backup. it is spilling over. for those of you headed southbound around olympic boulevard, we've got a truck that lost a lot of two by fours and nails that was scattered across the roadway.

northam's future in doubt after this racist photo surfaced from his medical school yearbook page. at first he said he was one of the two men in the picture. over the weekend, he said he spoke too soon. >> i was appalled that they appeared on my page. but i believe then and now that i am not either of the people in that photo. >> then the governor admitting he has appeared in black face before dressing up as michael jackson and doing the moonwalk in a dance contest in 1984. snide the shoes and the glove and used a little bit of shoe polish under my cheeks. i don't know if anybody tried that. but you captain get it off. >> with your gma first look, i'm tom llamas, abc news new york. grammy nominated rapper, 21 savage is awaiting a deportation proceeding in federal immigration court. he was arrested for overstaying

his visa. the 26-year-old rapper is actually a british citizen. fans online are shocked because the rapper has long claimed atlanta as his hometown. officials say the rapper entered the country legally in 2005 but did not leave when his visa expired a year later. he was then convicted of drug charges in 2014. a lawyer for the rapper says they are working to, quote, clear up any misunderstandings. happening today, a san francisco organization dedicated to fighting poverty is expected to announce a $5 million investment plan to help poor bay area communities. tipping points community comprised of several -- has been fighting bay area poverty for 14 years. the group has agreed to invest in housing and employment in san francisco's bayview neighborhood, south san jose and the contra costa town of pitt isburg. we see familiar characters

this monday morning. monday mornings are hard. now we have rain. sunol pleasanton, light to moderate showers around 680. i want to track kind of this heavier cell that has popped up. you can see that pop of yellow on live doppler 7. that's likely moving into livermore this morning. brentwood, you'll likely see heavier showers about 6:21 later on this morning. zoom into the south bay, san jose, we've got light rain out there. here's 880 right there. you can see we're seeing wet roadways across the south bay. slow go. hydroplaning certainly an issue on this monday morning. light showers in the north bay as well as san rafael and novato. we're seeing the light showers working through your neighborhood. we're going to take you into the south bay right now. a live look at san jose. if you look very closely, you can see that spray coming up from the cars right there. be careful on the roads this morning. especially before the sun gets up here. you could have ponding on our roadways early on. today, level 1 storm impact

scale. showers, a brief downpour. even a chance of rain, snow mixing into the highest peak. chance of showers in your neighborhood later this afternoon as well. we're still unsettled. watch what happens. 8:00a 9:00 this morning, we're going to see pockets of white in mt. diablo, mt. hamilton. that's where we'll see the mixing of rain and snow. most areas will see liquid precipitation. here's the seven-day forecast. still more showers tomorrow and the focus will be cold mornings both wednesday and thursday. take the rain gear. alexis, how are the roads looking? >> one of our problems has been here since 1:00 this morning. the bay bridge, you can see heavy traffic coming into san francisco. i will show you why. flipping over and heading into 101. so we had a crash that was blocking all lanes both northbound and southbound of 101

north of cesar chavez. it is still a sig-alert. we're down to one lane blocked in both directions. that is starting to impact the southbound side and that's backing up on to westbound 80 as well. this was a disabled vehicle hit by several other vehicles and they're now working on repairing that center median. good news south of there, rgrthbound 280 before the earlier crash has cleared and working to give you a look at a crash not far from tas a hara. we'll talk about that next. united airlines is apologizing after a flight flew in circles for hours and never made it to maui. >> they turned back not once but three times before it was grounded at lax. flight aware shows the plane flew for 5 1/2 hours over the pacific ocean. hawaiian airlines said each return was due to separate and unrelated faults with different systems. but then they didn't elaborate. the airline is promising full

closed. number 3, storm-related problems in santa cruz. a huge yiek leucalyptus tree down. the road will be closed until the tree is removed. oakland public school teachers will announce if they've approved a vote to go on strike. that would possibly happen later this month. number 5, virginia's governor, ralph northam has called for a large meeting with his administration staff. this comes as fallout continues over a racist photo in his yearbook. more than a dozen key democrats are calling for his resignation. number 6, the new england again. this is the team's sixth title. the big celebration will take place tomorrow in boston. number ay leading to super monday. millions expected out of work

5:24 this morning. not a lot better into san francisco. we've got some delays. no issues westbound 80. highway 4 to the maze. 22 minutes across the bay bridge. that's due to that crash on 101 just north of cesar chavez. one lane blocked in either direction also impacting southbound 101 san francisco to sfo. you've got an early flight this morning, you're up to 15 minute for your commute. on top of that, several sig-alerts, including a full closure of niles canyon road due it a mudslide this morning. that's where we find our reporter, matt keller. he's live at the beginning of the closure at mission boulevard. matt, what can you tell us? >> reporter: good morning, alexis. yes. since we last saw, the good news for my photographer and i, the rain. that heavy rain has moved on. but we still have the road closure at niles canyon road. you can see police officers are making sure no traffic goes throuh here. a fremont police officer came over to me and told me they had falling rocks on niles canyon road. they had it blocked off in both

directions for 2 1/2 hours here. the first call came in at 3:00 this morning. chp reporting amudsli. itamerent si there's a lge b the road now. that means the canyon will be shut down in both directions for the next day or two. i did see a fire truck, battalion chief vehicle go down niles canyon road and they're assessing it to see what has to be done to clear the road and get traffic through. it's not going to be to for a long time. matt keller, abc 7 news. thank you, matt. you can track the rain and check the weather conditions where you live by using our abc 7 news app. enable push alerts to get the latest news as it happens. happening today, oakland's public school teachers will announce if they've approved a vote to go on strike possibly later this month. the teachers worked without a contract since july 2017. union leaders oppose the plan by oakland school district to close up to 24 different schools over these next five years.

and teachers also want a 12% raise over three years. they claim oakland pays some of the lowest salaries in the bay area. oakland school district says it cannot afford to give teachers the raise they want. >> in the east bay, police are investigating a shooting that left a man with critical injuries in antioch. officers say they received several reports of shots fired just before 2:00 yesterday afternoon near lemon tree way and sycamore drive. the victim is 30 years old. police have not released any more information. this morning, we're learning more about the father of seven killed in a wrong-way crash in san francisco. he lived in concord. a driver hit his minivan head on early yesterday morning on highway 101. that driver also died. several passengers riding with him were among the nine injured. friends say he was driving for uber at the time. >> he was a very hard working guy. he came to u.s. about four years ago to look for a different opportunity and better life for his children and his family.

it's just very hard to even think about what had happened. it's very unfortunate. it's not his fault. >> the crash is still under investigation. chp says drugs and alcohol may have been involved. as we mentioned, he leaves behind seven children. a go fund me page has been set up to help his family with funeral expenses. we have a link on abc7news.com and uber issued a statement saying, quote, this was a horribly tragic incident and our hearts go out to the victim and his grieving family. we stand ready to work with authorities to assist their investigation in any way we can. five people are dead after a small plane crash into a two-story home in orange county. this impact started a fire. this happened in yosh remember ba linda. the male pilot also died from the crash. two others were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. the national transportation

safety board says the twin-engine cessna crashed after taking off from a nearby airport. >> i heard the plane like winding and an explosion in the sky. it shook our house. >> debris from the crash was scattered across four blocks. a nearby elementary school will be closed as the investigation continues. there's more funding to help santa rosa rebuild after the north bay wildfires. the press democrat reports kaiser is donating $1.6 million to build a new apartment complex at journey's end mobile home park. kaiser's main santa rosa campus borders that mobile home park that was destroyed back in 2017 during the tubbs fire. kaiser's donation will help build 160 apartments on that burned-out property. the developers are also looking to collaborate with kaiser on health care programs for those future residents. fans of the new england patriots are celebrating again. this is video of people in boston cheering and dancing in

we're tracking rain moving through the winter storm overhead right now. live doppler 7. i want to zoom into the east bay. we have showers pushing off to the east. we're tracking this line of rain. it's moving into walnut creek at 5:43 a.m. conco concord expect that in your neighborhood. you see the embarcadero through so ma as well. we're seeing light rain on the peninsula. belmont through redwood city. certainly 101 is wet in that area. we're tracking this one downpour that will push off to the east. san mateo, you could see heavier rain about 5:51 a.m. it's going to be a slower than normal commute today. light rain pushing to the east in the south bay. we're seeing that line of showers moving into sunnyvale by 5:46 this morning. you're seeing more rain at 5:53 this morning. on the storm impact scale, it's a level 1 light system. but the showers are creating issues on the roadways. there is a chance of a thunder

troops are heading to the southern border in support of customs and border protection. they'll be adding about 150 miles of wire between ports of entry. the new troops are expected to deploy later this month. there are about 2300 troops in california, arizona and texas. new this morning, san francisco police officers may have an app their cell phone to call on american sign language interpreter to help at crime scenes. the video chatting tool is in response to complaints over communication barriers between officers and the deaf or hard of hearing. the police commission is expected to vote on a proposal of a policy to include step by step procedures to officers to follow when they're interacting with the victims or perpetrators. millions of employees are expected to call in sick with super bowl fever. >> 14 million adults will miss work following the big game. more than 8 million of the workers are taking a pre-approved day off.

chavez. we had a disabled vehicle turned into a multicar collision. we had all lanes blocked and both sides of the roadway for a while early this morning. they are in the cleanup stages at this point. we only have the far left lane blocked. it is impacting southbound and northbound traffic on either side of the roadway. they're trying to repair that center median. so definitely seeing that spilling over on to the bay bridge. we'll look at the drive times, too. no issues from highway 4 to the maze. about 20 minutes. metering lights are on. about a 24-minute drive into san francisco. southbound 101 san francisco to sfo, in the yellow at 15 minutes. alexis, thank you. netflix took a big hit on super bowl sunday. the company tweeted that it viewership in the u.s. was down 32% kmard to a normal sunday. the lighthearted post said, so apparently the super bowl thing is kind of a big deal. during the game, the netflix account was tweeting about a new nature documentary series set for release in april.
