breaks news in the north bay, wet and icy conditions led to this violent wreck between two cars southbound highway 101 and sausalito. layer of ice covering the freeway. messy, driving treacherous. one driver was taken to hospital with minor injury. all lanes now reopened. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. there's a wicked mix of winter weather pummelling the bay area right now. snow, hail, rain, even lightning. >> provided for extremely dangerous driving to be sure. tricky out there. live team coverage spread out for you.

>> sandhya patel with live doppler 7. >> it is the frozen type of precipitation that's going to cause problems. live doppler 7 right now, we're tracking what we expect, wintry mix, some falling at low elevations. old redwood highway, across highway 101, snow from graiten to sebastopol. other parts of the bay area watching along highway 35, snow with rain and tracking showers on the peninsula coming down hard. moving eastward into union city between 11:51 and 11:58. seen over parts of diablo. santa cruz mountains under winter weather advisory. 1,000 to 2,000 feet.

lake county, hills under a winter storm warning until 7:00 a.m. expecting two to seven inches. light number one tonight. snow over the highest peaks. showers, hail, even black ice. isolated thunder in the forecast, had lightning strike near hayward as the storm moved through. hour by hour time line, wintry mix continues into the morning commute. >> as sandhya just mentioned bay area peaks are hit with winter tonight. all saw a fresh coat of snow. kate larson is in the east bay in oakland hills. seeing any snow? >> reporter: we're going to get to that. grizzly peak boulevard, a beautiful vista of the east bay and san francisco. earlier was foggy and dark.

pulled over when we saw this street lamp, looked across the street and you can see what looks like snow, not a lot but patches of white. look at this, upon closer inspection it's not snow but more like hail. evening in oakland started with downpour of freezing rain in town. and hail in tilden regional park. the wet roads and dark sky meant trouble for drivers in the east bay. including at this home in oakland. driver tells me because of the rain and slick asphalt she lost control of her suv, skipped the curb and crashed into a tree in sue's front yard. >> saw that, oh, no not there s 1982, says the curve in the road right above her house is to blame for nearly ten crashes into and around her home over

the past 37 years. wishes drivers would learn to slow down during the storms and stop wrecking her property. >> 30 miles an hour in the sunlight, best of conditions, that's the speed limit. but right now, got to be less than that. >> reporter: so we have a little break in the storm right now. not raining or hailing now. but likely won't last for long because the storm is not over yet. as beautiful as it is up here on grizzly peak boulevard, don't recommend driving here during storm, fog can come in and make it tricky. everyone stay safe on the roads. abc7 news. >> great advice. this was not donner pass but mt. diablo in the east bay. can you believe it? snow started falling at feet level. locked the gates to keep people

feet. >> in the south bay, covered mt. hamilton. serious snow at more than 4,000 feet. typically gets snow a couple times a year. highway patrol is investigating whether the wet roads called three-car wreck near monument boulevard in pleasant hill. one car spun out, smashed into center divide. two others slammed into it from behind, at least two drivers taken to the hospital. water poured from spillway after capacity hit 103%. sky7 was overhead as the water flowed into sycamore creek. residents self-evacuated yesterday, worried that mobile m ho home park would flood. since receded. closed over the sierra

down. seen on mt. diablo. santa cruz mountains getting a wintry mix as well. look at pinks around san mateo county. that's street level radar. i want to track the moisture off the coastline, moderate pockets coming. will be asleep but may wake you up. back in time, a thunderstorm blew through, isolated cell. san mateo bridge heading into hayward and seen accumulating snow over mt. diablo, mt. hamilton, it's upper level cold pressure system pivoting in cold, unstable air. seeing what you've been seeing, mixture of wintry precipitation, light level one on the storm impact scale.
