had, it is out of here. we had some flakes spotted on twin peaks earlier this morning. what is to note, look at the date of when we have seen snow in the city. it all occurred on february 5th. a lot of people remember back in 1976 but in the 1,800s, we saw close to four inches of snowfall. now that the cold has moved out. the cold has settled in. it is barely hitting 50 degrees. so future weather tonight. we will see temperatures into the 30s and the 40s by midnight and even colder air will settle in tomorrow morning. we're going to detail how low it will go tomorrow morning in the full forecast in a few minutes. >> sounds good. thank you. in the south bay, the unusually heavy snow in the santa cruz mountains brought the chance for many to try something

new. some even built a snowman. >> call it a snow day. the summit off highway 17 in the santa cruz mountains was a tourist spot this morning. >> we had to savor the moment. when will this happen again? who knows? >> no need for a long drive to tahoe to take part in a snow ball fight. >> he didn't get to go to the snow this year, so yeah. we've been having fun. >> it wasn't all fun and games. the snow was serious. parked cars were covered in white. visibility was difficult for those in motion. the chp had to close it down for about a half-hour just after mi caltrans crews ce through with plows to move away the sticking snow. chp paced traffic to make sure the speeds stayed slow and safe. >> have you ever seen snow up here on 17? >> no. my first time. >> i can't remember the last time it snowed like this.

plane crashed just minutes after takeoff on sunday. officials revealed the pilot carried credentials that did identify him as a retired chicago police officer but the chicago police say he was never one of their officers. a couple back home after spending several days stranded in the snow. the 18-year-old and her boyfriend, carlos hernandez, pictured here with their families and rescue crews. they disappeared wednesday into the mountains. when they didn't return, there was a search. they were found in their jeep in the snow. >> let's see what's left of the snow. >> a snow ball fight this

and we'll see temperatures, some of the coldest we have seen all year so far in the 20s and the 30s. number throughout right now. it certainly was a chilly day in the afternoon. temperatures were only in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees. that's a struggle even to reach 50 right now. so it was certainly a cold day. that will lead to a cold night. look at these numbers. we'll drop some 20 degrees over the next couple hours. so your overnight lows, a wide aea is going to drop into the 30s. that does include san francisco. overnight, the city dropping to 39 degrees. 38 in oakland. san jose, it will get cold out there. dropping to 34. even colder in the north bay. we'll have several cities from ukiah, santa rosa, napa, dropping into the 20s.

we're watching our daytime highs. any snow we can see in our hills, it has melted. once the number crash, we could see it turn into some black ice. so use extreme caution if you're out and about on the roads. any liquid we have on our roadways will turn into ice. the things that freeze first are bridges and overpasses because they cool rather quickly because they have no insulation. black ice is very difficult to see. so please use caution. ice is not something we see all that often in the bay area. it is a cold morning. you want to have the heavy jacket. the scarf and the gloves. it will be a bright day. the sun not very fish. chilly, 40s near 50. by the afternoon temperatures, a little warmer. still cool this time of year. highs on wednesday about, 53.
