from the chill outside. no need for the umbrella today unless you're well down towards the monterey bay in monterey. let me put this into motion. you can see live doppler 7 tracking it as it heads southeast away from us. we're dealing with dry conditions for most of as we look down the embarcadero towards the ferry building and the bay bridge, it's chilly this morning. freezing cold inland. 45 at the coast at 7:00. we'll be near 50 with sunglasses needed at noon. low to mid-50s. not quite average. but a little more comfortable than yesterday afternoon. mid to upper 40s by 7:00. quiet here. let's find out about the commute. >> it has been really quiet, mike. the east bay, we have our first collision of the morning. sounds like one vehicle was driving recklessly and speeding before this happened. two vehicles total involved here. i do believe we have one lane blocked, but no delays right now. emergency crews are headed to the scene as we speak. i will keep an eye on that north of alamo.

take a look at the thermometer at this bank here in san rafael announcing the temperature here. it's because of these temperatures. all the rain that we have had that officials are worried about black ice this morning. here is a picture authorities released of an overturned truck in mendocino county. this happened during icy conditions. cal trans has sanding trucks out right now. they're putting gravel and sand out on the roads to help get drivers some traction. they're encouraging you to slow down this morning. >> stay calm. if you hit black ice, take your foot off the accelerator, no aggressive turning inputs to make it worse. >> reporter: even though it isn't raining, don't forget about the runoff. it freezes and there is that hidden danger of this morning's commute. also don't forget to bundle up. it is very cold out here this morning. reporting live in san rafael, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thank you, amy.

police are still looking for the person who beat a man on a popular trail. attack was so severe, the man died. it happened last wednesday night object a bicycle path known as the napa valley pine trail at main street and central avenue. police and paramedics found 54-year-old douglas davis jr. on the path next to his bike. he was a long-term checker at napa's only remaining safeway. his daughter andrea has brought flowers every day to the site of her father's death. yesterday she brought her 1-year-old son, her father's only grandchild. >> i don't want his memory to die. it's not old news. >> what would you tell people about your dad? >> he loves you a lot and he was so excited. so excited to be your grandpa. >> napa police are still investigating, as we mentioned. haven't revealed much information. davis' family is offering a $5,000 reward for information

that helps police solve his murder. a young san francisco couple is back home after their camping trip took a dangerous turn. rescue crews found the two stranded in the forest. kate larsen talked to them to find out how they survived. >> after a successful night of snow camping, this couple decided to drive further into the mendocino national forest on this snow-covered track. but their adventure quickly took a wrong turn. >> as we reversed, the car got stuck. >> that was thursday. they had no cell service and weren't expected home until friday night. the storm blew in. >> this is the jeep that they got stuck in and survived in for the better part of a week. the soft top of the jeep actually broke off on day two of the trip. they had to cover the entire back opening with a tarp and insulate with their supplies. this was 18-year-old my a's first time in the snow. but she was an experienced

just off of highway 17. take a look now. just a bunch of wet spots. that snow has melted. this morning, the biggest concern though, ice on the roads. here's why the chp in santa cruz had to talk about it in a fweet. well that was fun while the snow lasted. keep in mind we may have ice on the roadways tonight and in the morning. the roads were wet this morning. but not icy. at least not at the time. that can always change with the low temperatures. black ice can blend into the road making it hard to detect. the usda had tips for driving on black ice. know where to expect it, bridges and overpasses. drivers on highway 17, it often pops up around lexington reservoir. if you hit black ice, don't brake and keep that wheel straight. if you feel your back end of the car sliding, gently turn the wheel in that direction. we have more tips on

wrong direction. new this morning, the mother of a man shot and killed by oakland police officers last march has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against four officers. attorney burris is representing the mother semiautomatic gun. officers say they asked him to put down the gun but he did not. they recovered a gun that pollack may have been holding. pollack's mother wants them to charge the four officers with murder. we expect to hear from superintendent later this morning from oakland about what the district is doing to prevent a teacher strike. teachers are now trying to rally the city's support. >> we know that public schools are the heart of the community. >> abc 7 news was at oakland city hall last night where the teachers union president spoke during a rally before the city council meeting.

teachers want the city's support in their request for a 12% raise over three years. the district offered 5% over that same period. oakland unified numbers show there are roughly 2300 teachers in the district and just more than 36,000 students, not including those at district authorized charter schools. students will show support for their teachers with a sickout on friday morning. this is video from a student walkout at oakland tech last week. from that school, skyline and others are expected to join. the goal is to show support for their teachers' demands. the students plan to march from oakland tech to the district office. rv's lining the streets in the pour toe la neighborhood have four weeks to leave. the sfmta voted to ban them from parking overnight. frustrated neighbors first brought the problem this to us in october. the rv's were taking up parking and also making messes.
