peninsula and between san bruno and then in the south bay and in white and pink indicating snow in the higher elevations. this ranks one on the storm impact scale and will continue with scattered showers and brief downpours into tomorrow morning. let's take a look at the forecast animation study. at 5:00 this afternoon, once again the rain will still be widespread and that means the roadways will be wet for the evening commute and could be a lot of slippery spots, even pooling in areas where there are downpours. but by 8:00 we see rain breaking up into more widely scattered showers and the storm is winding down into the overnight and early morning hours. but there is a lot more to come this weekend and i'll have a closer look at the seven-day forecast in a few minutes. >> thank you, spencer. if you want to head up to tahoe this weekend, it is probably already too late. this is a live look from our tahoe heavenly mountain camera. these people enjoying the slopes, got up there early. but be sure to check the road conditions before you head up if you are thinking about going to the ventura th-- to the sierra.

this is a control room at donor summit and talk about hazard pay, the struggle is real for them. you could see the winds blowing very hard as the crew tries to hike through the snow. >> that looks brutal. >> you could track the weather any time with the abc 7 news app and we have live doppler 7 app phone. a look into the gas line explosion in the jordan park neighborhood. sky 7 was overhead as federal investigators visited the blast site at geary boulevard and parker avenue. the fbi said their role is not a criminal one but the bureau declined to explain why they are there. wednesday afternoon's fire burned for more than two hours until pg&e crews were able to shut off the gas. that fire destroyed a chinese restaurant and left five buildings damaged. and in the end ntsb is speaking right now at a news conference so let's listen in.

it is just getting undeand just incident site and from there we asked to see the seven manual valves that we verified the pg&e crews were able to access to shut off the flow of gas. so those valves were not paved over. now we're going to begin the process of developing a timeline of events. one area that we're still interested in is the length of time that it took to shut off the gas. another thing that we were able to get today is we're able to secure three or four -- three to four feet of the pipeline that

a wells fargo branch in pleasanton at the corner of hopyard and stone ridge. three people were outside of the bank standing at an atm when this transpired. three or four suspects with hoodies showed up at this wells fargo and forced them inside at gunpoint and taking them hostages. they were witnesses to a brazen event. it is not known how many customers were in the blank and police were alerted when the bank alarm was tripped perhaps by a teller. two hostages were using the atm machine outside and no one was injured and we're told one of them was roughed up a little bit. there was an interesting conversation between one of the customers and one of the robbery suspects shared by one of the son of the hostage. the son happened to be one of our assignment editors here at abc 7 news. >> one of the people forced inside of the bank had made the comment to the suspects, don't hurt me. i have a family.

and the suspect shot back quickly at that victim, well, we have families too. the bank employees had said that they did not get into the vault, that they did trip the alarm and that they did not get into the vault. >> reporter: pleasanton police cordoned off blocks of inglewood in the valley vista subdivision but it is not clear if they were seen there on foot. police describe the getaway car as a white gmc yukon and officers were chasing it when officers on police radio reported shots , shots fired. >> fluorescent color of the rear passenger window. back window shot out. >> reporter: the robbery suspected had fired through the rear window of that yukon, striking the front windshield and hood of a pleasanton police car following it. the officer was taken to the

hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. now the suspects then stopped and carjacked another vehicle. a small honda crv. and got away. police are saying that those suspects are armed and dangerous. there are three and possibly four males. they were all wearing hoodies at the time. live in pleasanton, david louie, abc 7 news. >> what an ordeal. david, thank you. now campbell police say there is no time frame on negotiations with the man holed up in a denny's on basscom and he is armed and alone in the restaurant. police at one point used a flash bang to gain the man's attention and it started when he threw coffee at a truck praitor and pulled out a gun and pointed it at the worker. that is around morning. everyone in the restaurant ran out safely. between campbell and dry creek road remains closed. caltrans expected the richmond-san rafael bridge to remain opened with no lane

closures after falling concrete triggered delays for thousands of commuters yesterday. >> this map shows you where pices of concrete fell. caltrans came up with a temporary fix by putting a metal plate over the area. so on the left, you could see what drivers have experienced since the bridge reopened last night. for them, it is a big improvement from the right of your screen, when drivers turned around after being stranded. one driver had a close call yesterday when a chunk of that concrete crashed on his mercedes. >> imagine that as you are driving along. abc 7 news reporter wayne freedman talked to that driver and shows us the damage to his car. and wayne is live at the toll plaza. wayne. >> reporter:t isplaikny id. you wo. a ponncoday, as you said, caltrans said failures like yesterday happen when there is a backlog of maintenance work. it is a 66-year-old bridge.

but that man we met today said he lost all confidence in the structure. paperwork after a close call for graham edwards of sonoma, a damage claim to the state of california. graham edwards was the driver on the richmond bridge who somehow survived concrete falling from the upper deck on to his car. >> eight or ten pieces. >> raining? >> a small buckets worth of -- there was a fair amount of it falling down, yes. >> reporter: the concrete chunks hit the front bumper and passed beneath and in another instant they could have gone through the windshield. >> do you trust that bridge now? >> i do not. >> reporter: at a press conference caltrans tony taffares had a different opinion. >> the bridge is safe. >> he blamed a faulty expansion joint never replaced and defended a robust inspection process that the very same joint had passed last august. we asked who or what is to blame? >> it is an old bridge.

we have an aging infrastructure. >> reporter: caltrans said crews or the bridge this weekend and begin repair work during night shifts next week. what kind of repairs? >> the work is being designed right now. that is why we anticipate starting the work on monday. we're working our engineers -- they are working with the contractor to come up with a design. >> reporter: meantime graham edwards will be avoiding the richmond bridge if at all possible. >> better to be lucky tan good, i guess. >> reporter: i'll tell you how lucky he feels. on the way home last night as he got stuck in the traffic jam with everyone else, he pulled off and he bought himself a lottery ticket and his first ever at the richmond bridge toll plaza, wayne freedman, abc 7 news. >> thank you. kind ohatond-ra brid 62 years ago on september 1st, 1956. five and a half miles long cost $66 million to build back then and in today's dollars that

would be $1.4 billion. the bridge the middle child of bay area bridges, the golden gate opened in 1937 and the bay bridge opened in 1936 but the eastern span, the newest part to open, if you are crossing the bay, that opened in 2013. b.a.r.t. is warning early morning and late night riders to expect big changes starting on monday. and the changes will last for the next three and a half years. this is long-term. the agency is pushing the start of service on week days from 4:00 to 5:00 a.m. to perform seismic safety work on the transbay tube. buss will run from select stations to help affected riders get around. afcted.mated 2900 people will be trains in the of ery 20 and on sunday b.a.r.t. will cut the number of transbay trains in half. only the pittsburg antioch line will operate between san francisco and the east bay. again the changes take effect

. a sick-out was called by students from six oakland high schools showing support for teachers who are threatening to strike. >> while most stayed at home, others marched to district headquarters as abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez tells us, today was not financially beneficial for the district. >> reporter: oakland schools were open today but many high school students called in sick to show their support for teachers. some students stayed home, others marched to district headquarters. >> i don't think it was a hard decision to walk out. because i want these teachers to get at least a little bit of pay and then more. >> reporter: oakland teachers are threatening to strike if their demands are not met. they've been without a contract since july 2017. teachers continue to ask for higher wages and smaller class sizes. >> so why are you here? >> i'm supporting the teachers mostly just to show them that we want them to get a higher pay and be able to live in the city they teach in. >> reporter: this week the superintendent revealed that the school district must find ways to reduce spending by more than cuts to services. both sides remain divided on how much the district can really afford to pay teachers. >> the staff is looking. they're trying to find it.

they're turning over every rock and looking at every crack to find the money somewhere. >> reporter: by having the sick day the district gets to ada money meaning attendance funding from the state. the teachers got paid, but this represents a financial hardship for the district. in oakland, lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. and the oakland teachers union said 95% of the members voted to authorize a strike and that strike could happen before the end of the month. but the district said it is confident they could come to an agreement before then. teachers are asking for a 12% raise over 3 years. the district is offering a 5% increase. last school year oakland unified reported 36,826 students and it has just over 2317 teachers and starting salary is $46,570 and experienced teachers around around $64,000. according to state data, that is the lowest of all alameda county

school districts and the third lowest in the bay area. three months ago a devastating fire started in butte county. by the time it was out, 85 people had died and more than 14,000 homes were destroyed. most in the town of paur a dice. here is a back at the fire through the eyes of those who lost everything. ♪ >> getting out of here. it is crazy. there is fire everywhere.

a look at live doppler 7. widespread rain raining for several hours. so the roadways are wet for the a slow one in the areas of orange and yellow indicating the areas seeing heavier rainfall. the view from sutro tower. sorts of a view. the clouds are low and wet over the city. temperatures 46 to 47 or 48 degrees in virtual eye all of the locations. san francisco, oakland, mountain view, san jose and morgan hill and half moon bay. and emeryville where traffic is not moving well and not being helped by the weather didn conditions. 45 in santa rosa, 46 at napa and 46 in petaluma and from mt. tam rain drops on the lens. doesn't seem to be active at that spot at the moment. showers will continue overnight. they'll become more widespread overnight. we'll have a wintry mix of rain and high elevation snow this weekend. and this unsettled pattern will continue into next week. now our current storm ranks one on the storm impact scale. it will bring us showers and

maybe some brief downpours into tomorrow. most areas will see a quarter of an inch to an inch of rain from this storm and possibility of isolated thunderstorms. breezy on the coast. overnight lows upper 30s and even low to mid-40s near the bay and on the coast. and then comes our next storm. that ranks one on the storm impact scale as well coming in tomorrow and continuing through sunday to produce widespread hours and snow levels down to 1,000 feet as the cold air comes in so we'll likely see snow over the hills and mountains around the bay area. the forecast animation, 8:00 tomorrow morning. and pockets of showers mainly in the north bay until midday and then we see the parts of the bay area into the afternoon and evening hours. then things get sort of light except it gets cold overnight into sunday morning. look at how wide spread the snow will be in the higher elevations, during overnight from saturday night into sunday morning. and then mid morning sunday we

nonlife-threatening injury. fbi and ntsb investigators are at the scene of wednesday's gas pipeline fire in san francisco. abc 7 news anchor eric thomas will have the latest coming up on abc 7 news at 5:00. caltrans is monitoring the richmond-san rafael bridge after concrete chunks fell from the upper deck yesterday. some of the concrete fell on a car. no more lane closures are planned but there is work during the overnight hours starting on monday. and acting attorney general matthew whitaker was grilled by democrats today. he said he is not interfered with the special counsel russia investigation. abc news reporter elizabeth herr has more from washington. >> did they recommend that you recuse yourself. >> reporter: in the hot seat -- >> are you overseaing a witch hunt. >> and on the defense. >> it would be inappropriate to talk about the investigation. >> reporter: mathew whitaker initially standing firm on limits about what he was willing to discuss.

i have zero concern. >> ivanka trump tried to further down play the significance of doing business in russia noting other major hotel chains have propertieshe. wells fargo customers faced another day of technical problems. people couldn't see hup -- couldn't see updated account balances. a spokesperson said all problems have been fixed and all bank branches will be open one hour later today and tomorrow to help customers. they say it was an outage on the mobile app and website yesterday. in a statement to abc 7 news the bank explained the system issues were caused by an automatic power shut down at one of the wells fargo main data center facilities. triggered by a smoke condition that created a routine maintenance activities in the building. police in watsonville have arrest aid woman accused of going on a vandalism rampage this week causing $15,000 in damage. 23-year-old jacqueline cheferia targeted four businesses and a

catholic church. at st. patrick's church on main street where a woman was captured on camera right there pushing over that 15 foot tall crucifix. police say that was the most extensive damage and bail is set at $25,000. now to a thief with apparently a very sweet tooth. someone made off with $1,700 worth of candy from a safeway in redwood city. it happened on tuesday at the woodside road store. according to the palo alto daily news they emptied most of the candy aisle and took the cart as well. there is no word on how many candy bars or bags were stolen, but that is a lot of candy. >> i would say, you've got to be doing a lot of work to get all of that candy in one basket. >> going to a dental office soon. >> and you see the weather over my shoulder. and spencer will look at that. infine.r before wine leavesou

the san francisco giants are gearing up for a season with unanswered questions. players and coaches trying to answer some of them today as they face the media. among the concerns, will they have to share the field with the raiders. that is out. in fact, we've reported that the raiders look like they're heading back to oakland. buster posey had off season surgery and is he healed. bryce harper still out there. and giants press met with him in las vegas this week. >> there is obviously mutual interest on both sides. he'll have some decisions to make. >> we have to figure out a way that each game, fans have the feeling that competition is at its highest. >> fans will get a chance to ask some of their own questions

veterinarians are trying to figure out why a beaver wandered into a busy road in downtown martinez. it may have been hit by a car. leslie brinkley has more from lindsay wildlife rehabilitation hospital in walnut creek. >> nibbling on willow branches, this beaver looks content but a week ago it was dazed in the middle of this busy intersection along alhambra avenue in martinez. a good samaritan wrapped the beaver in a blanket and rushed it to lindsay wildlife rehabilitation hospital. >> because she was found in the road, she could have been hit by a car or head trauma from being hit by a car. there is also the concern about was there something else going on and that is why she wandered out in the road. >> this beaver is a young teenaged female who is not behaving appropriately. she should be afraid of me right now. so they're concerned about

r condition is guarded. she may not survive. martinez beavers famously made headlines in 2007 when they built a dam on alhambra creek in the middle of the urban downtown, an effort to save them and prevent flooding put martinez on the national conservation map. >> we're in national geographic this year. so the martinez beaver story is a big part of our history. >> heidi perryman started a nonprofit called worth a dam. there are t-shirts and an you'll beaver festival. at their peak, there were seven beavers but they moved up stream to a more secluded spot and there is believed there are only three left. could the one found in the road be one of them or is it an outsider moving into the area? doctors are working to save its life. in walnut creek, i'm leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. >> hope it will be okay.

security number has been involved in drug running or money laundering or just really vague. the caller i.d. may sho the 800be scammers pry you for information. like the last four digits of your social security number, driver's license number and other identifying information. now coming up on abc 7 news at 6:00 tonight, how to protect yourself against this scam. we have the very latest. apple has released a fix to an iphone facetime flaw allowing eavesdropping. the bug allows users to turn iphones into live microphones while using the facetime group feature. a 14-year-old tucson boy discovered the flaw. apple said a repair is included in the latest ios system update. the update is available for iphone 5-s and later models. along with ipad air and ipod touch devices. more takata airbags are

i'm seana harrison, doctor with a ph.d, whatever. i started teaching fitness when i was 17, 18. but i did start teaching yoga right after i finished my ph.d. muscle control is for anyone and athletic. i wanted to create something that felt authentic to me so that it felt authentic to other people when they came to take my class. it is just a different approach to teaching movement. muscle and flow is strength-based. whether you've never done yoga before or you have done yoga forever. my job is to make sure that you get a good experience when you come. i grew up in the '80s and '90s with the original amazing hip-hop, so i have -- just can't imagine teaching any class ithout it. the classes are a combination of all that, i do yoga and pilates and sometimes strength training and bio met -- biometrics and

all with hip-hop and from the movie hustle and flow, the tag line is go hard and go home. it speaks to me. so when it speaks to me, that is what i want to share. i'm outside a lot. i love the bay area so i love to be by the beach and by the bridges. i'm a huge fan of street art. so any time i see a cool wall, i always end up in front of them. all of it kind of just up -- my interpretation and my reflection on hip-hop for a movement for me is fitness in yoga and running and all of these things and i just happen to do it to hip-hop music. my biggest thing is helping people get in their bodies and learn about their selves. i want to teach something authentic to me because that is how people will receive it. >> i love her. can she come in the station. >> we can work that out i think. >> awesome. >> check out abc new brandon
