more widespread rain from the storm is pushing eastward to the central valley but we still have pockets of rain moving onshore. shear a look at live doppler 7. you can see the heavier stuff headed to the central valley but let me give you a look at the santa cruz mountains where a couple of big batches of heavy downpours are just moving onshore. so there is more rain on the way. it may be more widely scattered than what we've seen so far. as dan pointed out, the storm ranks one on the storm impact scale. >> from now to tomorrow morning, we can expect periods of showers and brief downpour, most areas will see a quarter to an inch of rain from this storm. and will is the possibility of some isolated thunderstorms. the forecast, starting at 7:00 this evening, notice as we hit late neither evening hours, we will see the storm breaking up, now beginning to fall in the higher elevations in the northeastern part of the viewing area. then the storm will wind down overnight for the most part with a few trickling showers moving through the bay area, and the early morning hours tomorrow but a lot more to follow over the week, and into next week, i'll give you a closer look at the forecast in a few minutes. >> thanks, spencer.

you can always track the rain and check weather conditions with the abc 7 news app, constant access to live doppler 7 and check the weather conditions where you live and push alerts to get the latest news as it happens. >> breaking news. the ongoing search going on right now for those suspects who are armed and dangerous and took customers hostage and robbed the wells fargo branch in pleasanton this morning. just a few hours ago, pleasanton police reopened intersections in the area that had been closed all day long. abc 7 news reporter david louie is live now from the scene with the very latest on the search. david? >> reporter: here in pleasanton, a pleasanton police officer was slightly injured chasing every three suspects who had just robbed this wells fargo bank. but there is more to the story. because one of the robbery suspects also held three bank customers at gunpoint. and he wasn't very synthetsympa one of them asked for mercy.

>> you can see bank employees consoling each other. the suspects took three hostages who were outside in an atm. and forced them inside at gunpoint. one of them was the father of abc 7 news assignment editor dave russo, who describes the conversation during the holdup. >> one of the people forced inside of the bank had made the comment to the suspects, don't hurt me, i have a family. and the suspect shot back quickly, at that victim, well, we have families, too. >> the suspects took off in a white gmc yukon. a pleasanton police officer pursued them into the nearby val vista neighborhood. and shots were fired from the back window of the yukon, striking the nd and hood. >> gunfire. >> the rear passenger window. back window, shot out.

>> the officer received a minor injury and treated at a local hospital. the suspects then carjacked a smaller honda suv and got away. police blocked off several streets as they looked for shell casings and other evidence. residents were surprised by the incident. >> because that is my bank. so i bank there all the time. yes. >> wlauhat do you think about somebody coming up with a gun? >> i feel like i'm in a movie or something. that's strange. nothing ever happens like that in pleasanton. >> and it did happen today in pleasanton. well, police are reminding us that the three suspects are indeed still at large. and they are considered armed and dangerous. the fbi is still working here on the investigation. and we are happy to report that the three bank customers, the hostages, who were held at gunpoint, are doing okay. in pleasanton, abc 7 news. >> david, thank you. campbell police say a manholed up in a denny's restaurant in bascom avenue is now in custody. abc 7 news was on the scene when

the man was led away in cuffs, just after 4:00 p.m. that was almost 12 hours after he reportedly threw coffee on a truck operator and pointed a gun at the man. the suspect went back into the restaurant and sat down at a booth. to developing news. two major stories that have dominated headlines this week. on wednesday, a crew hit an underground gas pipeline in san francisco which led to a fire that burned for more than two hours. and just yesterday, falling chunks of concrete triggered a shutdown of the richmond-san rafael bridge for hours. now, let's take a live look at the bridge where all lanes are currently open. you can see the cars flowing. there drivers yesterday were frustrated as the chp repeatedly closed and then opened lanes back up. caltrans also worked to ensure the bridge was safe after chunks of concrete fell on to a car. today, the commute returned to normal for thousands of people who depend on the richmond-san rafael bridge. caltrans says there are no plans to close lanes on the bridge over the weekend. and the agency believes it's safe for drivers. >> the bridge is safe. it's structurally sound.

and we don't see any issues with it. >> caltrans has installed metal plates over the expansion joint where the concrete fell yesterday. engineers and a contractor are developing a plan to permanently fix that same area. now, the abc 7 news i-team was first yesterday to report the cause of the falling concrete, an expansion joint, worn i do by heavy traffic. >> and today, officials who oversee the bridge confirmed our account and revealed plans to address those problems. >> dan is here now with more on the story. dan, you're on this from the beginning. >> and the falling concrete and that massive traffic jam have officials who oversee the bridge talking about replacing it. concrete falling off the richmond-san rafael bridge has been a problem over the years. but it never caused a traffic jam as bad as yesterday. before thursday's car-mageddon, caltrans identiied several expansion joints on the bridge that needed remare, not the one on the upper deck that caught them by surprise. >> the joints like the gutters

on your house are really important but hard to maintain. >> a civil engineer for the transportation commission told a board meeting today the issue was simple, cars and trucks bumping over the expansion joint. >> it is concrete and steel. they'll replace the joint and upgrade it a little bit because there is more modern joints than were developed in the '50s, but all of that is pretty simple and done off-hours over the course of several weeks or more, depending what kind of material they use to replace the joint. >> county supervisors from either end of the bridge tell me they're pushing caltrans to step up inspections of the entire span. >> they're inspecting it. from one end to the other. to make sure that what happened here, and how do we prevent it, in the future. >> during the course of yesterday, today, over the d, d continuing to examine the bridge, and also do the repairs. >> caltrans says the bridge is structurally safe.

but they have to keep the concrete from what they call spalling, or flaking off. another complicating factor, the original concrete on the top deck is lighter, less sturdy, not up to today's standards. the mtc's legislative affairs director tells me, when the bridge was built in the '50s, they cut corner, even ignoring design plans to use less steel. >> you can see the bridge has that weird hump to it. the idea was to save money by having less steel in the bridge, that's why that hump was there, it was not a design feature, so there are all of these indications of this bridge probably not being built to the standard it needed to be built back am those days. >> there is a consensus every single official i talked to today said we need a new bridge there. that is the idea. but funding is years away. so crewsdo tir bes keep track of the problems and patch the bridge when it needs it. so ongoing problems at this bridge in the future. >> it is old, isn't it? >> it is. a man in a mercedes was the unlucky one yesterday, the first car to be hit by falling concrete while crossing the

five buildings destroy are, were destroyed, some were damaged. eric thomas has the latest developments. >> the fire has been out for a couple of days but the questions linger. we saw the fbi out here earlier, but the ntsb says they were just there to help gather information, and evidence, that there is no criminal investigation going on at this time what we do see at this point is a lot of pg&e folks in the hole they dug in the ground after the pipeline explosion and fire and the damage we see behind it. the ntsb spoke to us in a news conference late today. here is some of what they had to say. investigators from the national transportation safety spent the afternoon scouring the scene of the pipeline break and fire. some of the investigation will be done on-site here. >> we asked to see the seven manual valves that we verified, the pg&e crews were able to

access, to shut off the flow of gas. >> some of the evaluation will probably be done back in the nation's capital. >> we were able to secure three or four, three to four feet of the pipeline that we may be sending back to our lab in dc for further evaluation. >> the breach occurred on wednesday while a contractor was digging prior the installation of fiberoptic cable. the pipe was cut and the natural gas exploded into flames destroying a building containing a chinese restaurant, the hong kong lounge number two and damaging several nearby buildings. fortunately no one was hurt. after meeting with parties that will provide information for the investigation, including the fire department, and public utilities commission, the ntsb will try to come up with a time line of what happened, and later, a list of recommendations to make it less likely to happen in the future. there was also want to

know. >> one area that we're still interested in is the length of time that it took to shut off the gas. >> we know that length of time was more than two hours. we are still not sure exactly why it took two hours. that's one of the things the ntsb wants to find out. and as far as recommendations go, well, they have investigations of various incidents involving pg&e, stretching back to 1981. the ntsb says they want to investigate to make sure that their recommendations in those other cases have been followed as well. in san francisco, eric thomas, abc 7 news. >> eric, thanks so much. abc 7 news is committed to building a better bay area. looking for improvements and for solutions. bart is tackling a project that will improve the safety of the transbay, too. and commuters are going to notice it starting on monday. that's when bart will begin service one hour later in the morning, starting at 5:00 a.m., instead of the current 4:00 a.m., buses will run from select

the wildlife rehabilitation hospital in walnut creek. >> she has a small fracture of the tail. >> there are plenty of beaver x-rays veterinarians are pouring over. nibbling on willow branches, this beaver looks content but a week ago it was found looking dazed in the middle of this busy intersection along al hambra avenue in martinez a good samaritan wrapped the beaver in a blanket and rushed her to the hospital. >> she could have been hit by a car. she could have had head trauma from being hit by a car. there is a concern was there something else going on and that's why she wandered in the road. >> the beav ser a young basically teenaged female who is not behaving appropriately. she should be afraid of me right now. so they're concerned about vision problems and neurological problems. >> her condition is guarded. she may not survive. the martinez beavers famously

the bay area. and showers continue overnight a wintry mix over the weekend. rain at bay level. snow above a thousand feet or so. and this unsettled pattern will continue into next week. the current storm ranks one in the storm impact scale. so during the evening, and overnight hours, into tomorrow morning, we can expect more showers. more widely scattered than they have been. maybe some prefer downpours. most areas will refer a quarter of an inch to an inch of rain from this storm. and the overnight lows will be mainly in the upper 30s in our inland valleys and low to mid 40s around the bay and along the coast. now a second storm will come in tomorrow. in the afternoon. that will continue to sunday. that also ranks one on the storm impact scale. it will produce widespread showers. less than a half inch total rainfall for most places in the bay area. but snow levels will drop to about a thousand feet, as cold air will accompany that storm. here is the forecast animation starting at 8:00 tomorrow morning, and notice most of the activity in the early part of the day, before midday, will be up in the north bay and snow in the higher elevations up in parts of mendocino and lake counties.

a vallejo couple is now under arrest charged with running a pill manufacturing operation at an elderly care facility. the counterfeit pills being pedalled as ecstasy actually contained methamphetamine. >> and federal agents say some of the pills featured the face of president trump. abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow first broke the story today on twitter and has new details tonight. >> reporter: drug enforcement administration agents say this vallejo assisted living facility shared prog operation. >> i'm appalled.not wa to inti

home. the raid was the culmination of an investigation beginning in 2017. according to the criminal complaint, the facility's owner, roselle cipriano and her husband were pedaling pills bearing cool aid and tesla logos and president trump's face and shaped like minions and the pills actually contained methamphetamine. >> it was on the other side. the building is separated. so this is where it starts. >> she invited us inside and showed us where five residents currently reside along with a door covered by a curtain and movable shelves separating the assisted living facility from the alleged pill mill. they were living on the other side. according to the criminal complaint, the couple was involved in the distribution of similar tablets as far back as 2008. and one of their alleged sellers would often meet them at the assisted living facility to obtain the pills.

agents seized 31 pounds of suspected methamphetamine tablets and 17 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, a shotgun and a pill press. >> if we had any inclination, we would have not allowed it. we would have told the authorities. we would have stopped it. >> the department of social services is now investigating. it last inspected the facility in august of 2018. while the d.e.a. calls cipriano the owner, according to dss, the parents are listed as the licensees. cipriano is listed as the licensee of a second assisted living facility in fairfield. barbara says she has been delivering prescription medications to the elderly residents at the vallejo location for ten years. >> i would have suggested, you know, a family member to come here. >> agents say th couple would also receive pill manufacturing related deliveries to the nearby glenn cove mailbox center. >> they are being detained. their preliminary hearing is scheduled for february 216789 benson's mother is also mentioned in the criminal

complaint as being involved in all of this. there is not an arrest warrant for her. but the d.e.a. says this case is ongoing. in the newsroom, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. breaking news update now, on the problems at the richmond-san rafael bridge. caltrans just announced they will close all but one lane in both directions from 9:00 tonight until 7:00 tomorrow morning. the closure will allow repair crews to put larger metal plates over a damaged section of the bridge, where chunks of concrete fell on to cars yesterday as we reported. caltrans confirmed today what the abc 7 news i-team reported to you yesterday, that an expansion joint worn down by heavy traffic caused the trouble. caltrans says there may be additional closures tomorrow. a permanent fix will begin next week. >> a lot to keep track of. students from six oakland high schools staged a sickout today to show support for teachers threatening to marched h

winter storm warning is in effect until 4:00 a.m. monday. we expect another two to four feet of snow above 3,000 feet, maybe five feet on the peaks. whiteout conditions are possible. and in lake county, a winter storm warning is in effect until 4:00 p.m. sunday. 8 to 12 inches of new snow likely. two feet on the peaks. and limited visibility. here is the accu-weather seven-day forecast. with the weekend, going to be an active one. cold air comes in on sunday with a next storm and it will bring a wintry mix of rain at bay level and snow in the higher elevations. snow levels as low as 1,000 feet so we'll see snow likely on our hills and peaks. hills and mountains. then on monday, we get a little bit of drying out but under cold conditions in the early morning hours. rain returns on tuesday, storm ranking one on the storm impact scale and wet and breezy on wednesday. another storm ranking one, a little bit dry on thursday, before the next level one storm comes in on friday. this is what you call a wet active unsettled pattern. >> it's nice to get the snow on

good evening. the raiders just might end up playing the 2019 season in oakland as we first reported on abc 7 news at 4:00, the silver and black had begun talks with returning to the coliseum. sources tell abc 7 news, these are the first conversations between these two sides since the city of oakland filed that anti-trust lawsuit against the raiders and the nfl, back in december. now it had been reported earlier this week the raiders had reached a deal to play at oracle park in san francisco, home of the giants. but those talks are basically dead at this point. and owner mark davis, he doesn't want to play at the niners home, levi stadium. finishing up one final season in oakland. it is really the only thing that makes sense for the raiders. for their loyal fans as well. before the move to las vegas. the warriors, they're in phoenix tonight, playing the suns, trying to get the focus back on the court after kevin durant went off on the media wednesday night. steph curry keeping it light outside with a shoot-around with the arizona state women's lacrosse team. let's see steph's lacrosse
