tuma. drew? >> it's been a wet evening. even now we have downpours across parts of the bay area. live doppler 7 is very busy. let's get you down to street level. first in the south bay where we have downpours right now, working through santa clara through san jose as well. we see brighter colors. the yellows and the oranges, live doppler 7 estimating that that rain falling at almost half an inch per hour. so that's a quick burst of rain. just had some downpours through milpitas moments ago, and the wider picture showing you our tracking another downpour that's moving to the east. so palo alto at 11:25 expects heavy rain. mountain view at 11:41. we're seeing rain turning to snow. mt. diablo, popsz of white is flakes. we have a winter weather advisory. this going until 10:00 tomorrow morning for the chance of some wintry precipitation. so on the storm impact scale tonight, tomorrow morning it's a level 1 system with the showers and the chance of that wintry

mix in our hills. taking a much closer look at the storm system coming up in accuweather, but first with the recent streak of wet weeks, we want to know how folks were feeling about all this wet weather here. and also the snow in the sierra. so he with sent luis pen i can't to find out how folks are loving it or longing for summer. luz. >> reporter: hi, drew. i'll tell you this, some people in the bay have scattered opinions, kind of like our scattered showers. one thing is for sure, we did chase the rain tonight and we found it along with some opinions. tonight we met two groups of people. the one who love the rain and want more. >> it cleans the environment. it's good for the plants. it's good for the drought. >> little day trip and we say rain or shine we're going to go, and we did anyways. >> reporter: sorry you didn't get the shine part. >> that's all right. >> when you have cabin fever, you brave the weather, go out and do what you can with it.

>> reporter: this was the scene saturday afternoon. investigators combing through thick brush, trying to reach this plane that crashed into the side of mt. diablo. >> the only reason we're able to find it today at the time we found it was the clouds had lifted high enough so you could see it from the paved road. >> reporter: in an e-mail to abc7 news, the faa confirms the small single engine mooney m-20 plane took off from hayward executive airport friday night. but mt. diablo park rangers say they only learned of the crash saturday afternoon. >> it is unusual to have planes crash at mt. diablo. very unusual. it's in a remote area. the park does close at sunset, so if it did go down last night, there would be no one in the park to see it or hear it go down. >> reporter: you can see how tall the bush is where pheinto. off to the side, how dense and thick this fog is, which is making this investigation so difficult. along with the poor weather conditions, they aren't ruling out possible mechanical failure. investigators havant identified the pilot but believe he was the only one on board.

the crash site is blocked off with the pilot's dead body still inside the plane. park rangers have been ordered not to remove the body until faa and ntsb teams conduct their investigation. >> they just thought it was unusual that it went down and they wanted to be treated as a crime scene until they could get on scene to make their own findings. >> reporter: they'll be back out on sunday. in danville, abc7 news. >> gunfire erupted at an east oakland strip mall this afternoon sending people running for cover. a red suv was peppered with bullets at the strip mall at peak and burger boulevard just before 5:00 today. no one was hurt. police responded to the mall, but the shooter managed to get away. investigators did not release a motive for the shooting. >> developing news, ntsb investigators today interviewed the heavy equipment operators believed to have ruptured a natural gas pipeline in san francisco's richmond district, triggering a massive fire. federal safety investigators say they also visited pg&e's gas pipeline control center in san

ramon. the team was able to see what pg&e employees saw when the gas line caught fire. as part of the investigation, the ntsb will look at how long it took for the utility to shut off the flow of natural gas. >> in the 1981 accident that the ntsb investigated, it took pg&e 9 hours 10 minutes to shut off the pipeline. in 2008, it was 2 hours 47 mnutes. in 2010 in san bruno, it was 95 minutes. >> the ntsb says it took about 2 hours for gas to be shut off in this most recent incident. a preliminary report is expected in the next ten to 14 days. ntsb officials also said today they'll be looking into the credentialling, background and qualifications of the excavation crew. >> cal osha has said an employee for subcontractor san francisco-based kill ford engineering was operating an excavator when that gas line ruptured.

>> kilford issued a statement. it said, in part, killford continues to support all authorities in this investigation and will actively contribute to it in the search for answers and in the interest of improving safety. >> new developments now with the richmond/san rafael bridge and the falling concrete that snarled traffic this week. cal trans says there shouldn't be any more closures this weekend. the agency sent out video of the repairs crews did overnight. they replaced a metal plate on the upper deck with a bigger one with more protection for the roadway. work on the permanent repair will start on monday as long as the weather cooperates. concrete fell onto the lower deck on thursday striking at least one carnd at brie for hours. >> on two pass were killed when a suspected wrong way driver crashed on highway 1. >> this happens to be the second deadly crash involving a wrong-way driver here in the bay area in less than a week. >> abc7 news reporter cornell barnard has our story. >> reporter: there is little left of the silver toyota prius reduced to a twisted chunk of

metal. the c.h.p. says its driver was going the wrong way on highway 1, traveling south in northbound lanes when it crashed head-on with a chevy pickup near claridon road near 4:15 a.m. >> there were two passengers in the prius that did die on scene. the driver of the preas was transported to the hospital. >> reporter: the driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital. it is unknown exactly where the prius driver got onto highway 1, but the c.h.p. says he may have been driving the wrong way for miles. >> we do believe it was closer to 280, highway 1 interchanges. >> that's our street sign. you cantt night. it's barely lit of. >> reporter: she isn't surprised someone may have got on highway one the wrong way. >> the signs are not lit, the do not enter. people don't really understand. if you're not from this area, it can be bad. >> reporter: just last sunday, a suspected wrong-ray driver on highway 101 took the life of

waheed, a father of 7 from concord. he was an uber driver. his passengers were injured. the wrong-way driver was also killed. >> the driver of the prius was listed as critical condition. chp says two people riding in the car were not wearing a seat belt. authorities don't know if drugs or alcohol played a part. the investigation is still underway. in pacifica, cornell barnard, abc7 news. >> firefighters recovered a body from san francisco bay this morning. emergency crews responded to reports of a body in the water just after 7:00 a.m. they found an unidentified woman near the red and white fleet headquarters at pier 43. the san francisco medical examiner arrived at the scene to remove the body. the incident is under investigation. >> new at 11:00, police are looking for the man accused of stealing from an alameda restaurant. alameda police released surveillance video. you see it here. the video shows the suspect entering the offices of burma

residents from paradise in butte county gathered to remember those who died in last year's camp fire. >> that memorial took place in the paradise performing arts center, one of the few buildings left standing after the wildfire. representatives from 20 different faiths honored each of the 85 people who lost their lives. the camp fire destroyed almost 14,000 homes and more than 500 businesses over 2 1/2 weeks. well, some 30 contractors who lost their tools in the camp fire took part in a replacement giveaway at home depot in chico. organizers say it's a step in the right direction for the contractors who are trying to get back to work. carl smith is looking for one piece of equipment to get his sign and graphics shop up and running. >> table saw that cuts, cuts the wood. not sh- right in the middle. >> we received a $55,000 grant from north valley, and 30,000

drops on your window. over in san francisco right now, just some light showers over much of the city. as we go towards mount hamilton, though, some of that rain turning into snow. you can see pops of purple, even a little bit of white on live doppler 7. showing you that mixed precip, and a similar set up in the north bay mountains. you can see -- we're seeing some snow in our highest elevations. so we are seeing a winter storm warning in effect for lake county. this going until 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. we're above 2,500 feet, you can see over 6 inches of snow. live look outside san jose, you just had a downpour move through. you can see the shark tank right there. we have drops on our lens. as we take a look at our rainfall total so far today, these numbers, they're going to seem a little bit deceiving at how low they are right now. the problem is, yeah, we've seen downpours move through many of our neighborhoods. they just don't last over one area for all that long. so the numbers don't have enough time to really add up. so a lot of spots right now,

less than half of an inch of rain, but still we are tracking those downpours moving through the south bay. so, san jose, you're going to add to your number the next hour or so. temperatures, it is cold right now in spots. clear lake down to 35. that's where we had that winter storm warning in effect. 40s elsewhere. so it is cold out there. tonight we continue to see the on and off showers, and even some mixed precip in our hills. 30s in a lot of neighborhoods over the next 12 hours. so live doppler 7, here's our storm system right there. there's this bend sliding down our coast line and bringing us that rain and a little bit of snow in our hills. on the storm impact scale, level 1 system tonight into sunday morning, showers a brief downpour at times. it is breezy off and on, about less than 25 miles an hour. so early tomorrow morning, 5:00 in the morning, there you can see on future weather that chance of some snow in our hills. even around mount hamilton. and by 8:30, we're going to see isolated showers dotting the landscape. but into the afternoon, i think most spots will get a brief break in the wet weather.

the second half of the day shaping up to be a bit dryer than the first half tomorrow. nonetheless, still have a winter weather advisory in effect until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. it does encompass the north bay mountains, the east bay hills and the santa cruz mountains where we could see some rain mixing with snow, i don' think this is going to be as widespread as that snow event we had monday night, tuesday morning of last week. but nonetheless, we could see a little bit of accumulation, mainly above 1500 feet. so, here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. the next 7 days for you, morning showers, a dryer afternoon. lots of clouds monday and tuesday. then we're tracking a stronger storm mid week, especially in the morning on wednesday. not only rain, but also going to come with some strong winds as we go mid week this week, guys. >> when in doubt, just keep the umbrella with you always. >> all times in february. >> drew, thanks. >> well, still ahead on abc7 news at 11:00, rain would normally wash out the giants at oracle park, but not today. >> we'll take

in tonight's headlines, the pilot of a single engine plane was killed in a crash into the side of mt. diablo sometime overnight. the mooney m-20 took off from hayward airport yesterday but never made it to its intended destination in placer county. the faa and ntsb will investigate the cause of the crash. >> ntsb is looking into the gas line explosion and fire in richmond district. says it will scrutinize the qualification ands training of the workers using the excavator that punctured the line. the excavation company tells abc7 news it is cooperating fully with the board investigation. >> on and off rain showers drenched people all across the bay area. a winter weather advisory is in effect for the north bay mountains, east bay hills and santa cruz mountains overnight. there is even a chance of snow in the higher elevations overnight. >> i like snow. drew tuma, of course snows. >> the winter weather advisory

is in effect for the high est elevations until 10:00 tomorrow morning. we're seeing heavy know in the sierra. live doppler 7 is taking us back the three hours. they are getting hit hard with more snow. it is for that fact a winter storm warning will continue until monday morning. we still have more than 24 hours of some very heavy snowfall to get through in the sierra. what we're talking about, this is additional snowfall on top of what they have already seen so far this weekend. look at these numbers. we'll be measuring that additional snowfall in feet. in fact, 2 to perhaps 3 feet of more snow, kirk wood 35 inches, 26 south lake tahoe, 29 in donner. this is all on top of an already very healthy snow pack right now. statewide of average, we're at 123% of normal. so we're going to get more snow and those numbers will be on the rise. that's some good news there that helps us for our water supply in the summer. we'll take another look at live doppler 7 tracking those downpours around here in a few minutes, guys. >> all right.

now, as the snow hits nevada, c.h.p. shut down colfax to the nevada line. >> this is snowy conditions there today. the highway patrol tweeted there have been multiple spin outs. c.h.p. is encouraging people to use chains and drive safely. >> the same storm hitting us already brought snow and frigid temperatures to the pacific northwest. >> conditions will not let up until monday. steve nanis shows us the damage that's already been done. >> reporter: parts of the pacific northwest woke up to snow on saturday. mixed snow and rain pushed into oregon friday night. slick roads caused accidents and led to road closures in the portland area. the arctic air hit seattle first, bringing the city its second snowstorm in a week. hundreds of flights in and out of seattle's airport were affected by the storm friday and saturday. the national weather service reported 6.4 inches of snow fell at the airport friday afternoon. that's the second highest snowfall at seattle tacoma

airport in a single day in the past 20 years. >> a little late for the winter, but we'll take it. i hope it piles up. >> reporter: the snow fell quickly in parts of the seattle metro area. snow was already on the ground in everett, washington, at 12:30 p.m. pau sichk on friday. but just two hours later, thick clouds and an extra layer of snow blanketed the area. >> i'm shoveling in between the waves of snow. >> reporter: the weight of the snow and ice brought down trees and power lines. at least 36,000 people in washington state were without power at some point on saturday. authorities in pierce county, washington, rescued a 14-year-old girl who had fallen through a frozen pond. >> when i got down there, we saw her in the water on the ice or kind of through the ice. >> reporter: the snow is expected to continue to fall through the weekend and into monday. piling onto the 12 to 18 inches that have already fallen in other parts of washington state. i'm steve nanis reporting. >> the field of democratic 2020

behind his home. a group of five minors, two boys and three girls, held him up at gunpoint demanding his wallet and keys. when he refused to hand over his keys, one of the suspects shot him. police say the suspects ranged in age from 12 to 16. >> it's a shame, you know? i know kids that age. i have cousins and nephews and nieces. >> makes you wonder what's gone wrong this that house. >> yeah, i wonder if the parents even knew where they were. >> so young. 9 suspects were arrested with two stolen loaded pistols on them. he was the lead singer and song writer for a pop funk band called carver ton whose first album was to be released next month. >> more people are coming forward claiming the owners of the "national enquirer" tabloid tried to blackmail them, too. amazon ceo jeff bezos said they tried to extort money from them.

fast-moving downpour. around san francisco, even the east bay, berkeley, oakland, richmond, just some light rain at this hour. similar set up from concord to pittsburgh, but now in the north bay we are seeing a mix of rain and snow in our mountains. you can see that white on live doppler 7. that is the snow. so a winter weather advisory continues until 10:00 tomorrow morning. encompasses the north bay mountains, east bay hills and santa cruz mountains. we could see flakes fly. i think the best bet is probably the north bay mountains for any sort of accumulation on our hills. pretty much above 1500 feet, the chances there the see 2 inches if not more than that early tomorrow morning. on storm impact scale, it's a level 1 light system. tonight, tomorrow morning, showers, brief downpours and that wintry mix in our hills. so tomorrow morning at 5:00 in the morning the focus is really on our hills for that snow mixing with rain. as you go into the afternoon, i think the action really quiets down. tomorrow afternoon, we may be able to squeak out some periods of dry weather, so good news
