. good morning and thanks for joining us on b sunday february 15th. i'm chris nguyen. we're is meteorologist lisa tracking the doppler for us. >> a wild ride this morning with a winter weather advisory for the bay area. we're still with this system that is a 1 own our storm impact scale. and bringing down brief heavy down pours, a wintry mix out there and it is breezy. wint weather advisory, 2-4 inches above 2,000 feet. 4 unchs above 2,000 feet. and look at live doppler 7 where you can see the wyatt there. that is the rain/snow mix for mount hamilton to the santa cruz

mountains. highway 17. and we're look at some of this accumulating in the higher hills and look at all those pinks into the east bay, the diablo range and then it is rain across the bay. look at some of the oakland hills there. certainly looking at a little sleet and hail and you may have heard some thunder out there at mill valley. check out that right there around the higher hills and mount tam. and the rain cuts off quickly to the north. so we're look at the system moving through in the morning hours. 33 in clover dale. 44 in hayward. and looks pretty good in san francisco. sunshine today. gonna be cold. barely 50 and more rain for your week ahead. chris? >> lisa, thank you. with the recent streak of rain a we wanted to know how folks were holding up. luis pena hit the streets to find out if people were dancing in theain or loggeriing for

time now is 5:03. new details this morning on a plane that crashed into the side of mount diablo. the plane was discovered yesterday afternoon just hours after it crashed. officials with the faa will arrive some time today to investigate. abc 7 news has more from danville. >> reporter: this was the scene saturday afternoon. investigators combing through thick brush trying to reach this plane that crashed into the side of mount diablo. >> the only reason we wer able to find it at the time we found it is the clouds lifted high enough so you could see it from the paved road. >> reporter: the faa the small plan took off here friday night but park rangers say they only learned of the crash saturday afternoon. >> it is unusual to have planes crash at mount diablo. very unusual. it is a remote area. the park does close

so if it did go down last night there would be known to hear it. >> reporter: just off to the side how dense and thick the fog is, which is making this vegts so difficult. pg along with the poor weather conditions they aren't ruling out mechanical failure. the pilot believed to be the only one on board. the crash site is blocked off with the pilot's dead body still inside the plane. they were ordered not remove until they conclude the investigation. >> they wanted it to be treated as a crime scene until they can get out to the scene to make their own findings. gunfire erupted at an east oakland strip mall yesterday afternoon sending people running for cover. a red suv was peppered by bullets. just before 5:00 yesterday.

no one was hurt. police responded to the mall but the shooter was able to get away. investigators did not release a motive for the shooting. the ntsb continues to investigate last week's explosion in the richmond district triggering a massive fire. federal safety investigators say they also visited p ge's contror center in san ramon. as part of the investigation, the ntsb will look at how long it took for the utility to shut off the flow of natural gas. >> in the 1981 accident that the ntsb investigated, it took p ge nine hours and ten minutes to shut off the pipeline. in 2008 it was 2 hours and 47 minutes. in 2010, it was 95

>> the ntsb says it took about two hours for the gas to be shut off in this most recent incident. a primary report is expected the next 10-14 days. officials will also be looking into the credentialing, background and qualifications of the excavation crew. cal osha said the operating an excavator when the gas line ruptured. it also said they continue to support all authorities in the investigation and will actively contribute in the search for answers and in the interest of improving safety. caltrans says there shouldn't be any more closers on the richmond-san rafael bridge after the falling concrete last week. they replaced a metal plate on the upper deck for more protection for the roadway.

work on a permanent repair will start tomorrow. concrete fell on the lowrer dec on thursday striking at least one car and shutting down the bridge for hours. the east/west tunnel connects continue co connects contrakosta and alameda counts. -- >> if rely on bart in the early morning hours you will notice a big change tomorrow. bart trains start running one hour later at 5:00 instead of 4:00 because of overnight seismic retrofitting work inside the tube. this change will impact about 2900 customers. buses will stop at selected stations to get riders across the bay. abc 7 com and search "bart." tune in to see what it lease

like to ride now and what track the transit system will take next because a safer bart means a better bay area for a offensive line us. time now 5:08. two passenger ares were killed when a suspected unwrongway driver crashed on highway 1. the second deadly crash here in the bay area in less than a week. >> reporter: there is little left of this silver toyota prius. the chp says its driver was going to wrong way on highway 1 traveling south in northbound lanes when it crashed head on with a chevy pickup about 4:15 a.m. >> there were two passengers that did die on scene. the driver was transplanted to the hospital. >> reporter: the driver of the pickup and his passenger were injured and taken to the hospital. it is unknown where the driver got on the highway 1 but the chp says he may have been driving

the wrong way for miles. >> we do believe it was closer to 280 highway 1 interchange. >> that is the sign. you can barely see it at night. >> reporter: got on the wrong way. >> the signs are not lit. the do not enter. people don't really understand. and if you are not from this area, it could be bad. >> reporter: just a last sunday a suspected wrongway driver on highway 101 track the life of a father of seven from concord. he was ab uber driver. his passengers were injured. the wrongway driver was also killed. >> reporter: authorities don't know if drugs or alcohol played a part. the investigation is still under way. in pacifica, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. police looking for the man accused of stealing from an alameda restaurant. police released this

time now is 5:14. and we're taking a quick look at live doppler 7. you can see the green on your screen over much of the bay area. and also over to the east in the san joaquin valley. rain coming down right now. we're tracking the storm. lisa will have the forecast in a bit. residents in beauty county came together to remember those who died last year's campfire. paradise performing arts center, one of the few buildings left standing after the wild fire.

residents honored each of the 85 people who lost their lives. the campfire destroyed almost 14,000 homes and more than 500 businesses over a 2 and a half week period. some 30 contractors who lost their tools in the fire took part in a replacement by home deep. a step in the right direction for contractors trying to get back to work. >> table saw that cuts the wood. not going to get a low end. i'm not not going to get a super high end. right in the middle. >> straight lines makes fine signs. >> received a $55,000 grant from north valley. and 30,000 went to gift cards. >> it is all things to the gem initiative who partnered with paradise adoptive family and north valley community foundation. each person was given anywhere from 700 to $18 hubz based on

the yellows, but the white and pink and purple for the wintry mix. snow in the diablo range. mount hamilton of the north bay hills. and pushing out and we'll have the rain throughout the morning hour. so look at that. some pretty pictures this morning but certainly slick out there up to the hills of the east bay. you can see the rain coming down 580. highway 24. but yeah. certainly some ice out there. some snow you may have heard. thunder. and with all the cold air in place and the system bringing in more cold air. didn't take much to bring out only of this as higher elevation snow. the peninsula, san francisco, san mateo. the santa cruz mountains looking white for sure. and the north bay, lookin fairfax, the hills, you can see the pink indicating the higher elevation snow and snow levels down about 1500 feet and in the mountains, winter storm warning

through tomorrow. in the bay area our winter weather advisory with 2-4 inches above 1500 feet for the north bay. the east bay and santa cruz mount you saw that. and this takes i through 10:00. and the temperatures still cold today but with a little sunshine that should be melting. take your time out there and bundle up. rain and snow mix this morning with a cold but drier afternoon and looking at more unsettled weather. looks like we have about a day and a half of a break but as we check in with our percentage of normal, it is unbelievable how we're not over 100% but getting close to it in san jose. 95% of normal. santa rosa, 92. sfriz up to 90%. and mountainview at 82% and oakland 85%ed in the mountains its been incredible. over a 100% of normal and this morning we're sitting with these very cold temperatures in the 30s for clover dale.

33 for you. 38 in vallejo and 40s around the peninsula. numbers should get up to about 50 today. and as we go through the morning hours more light showers, here we are at 10:00 and this next system will bring down some rain. some snow into the east bay. also along the peninsula and then by 12:00 we're dry. so it looks like partly cloudy skies looking at some of the sunshine to warm up us up. not likely though. it is going to be cold today. the first half picking up about couple of hundreds to about an quarter of an inch. from the early morning to the afternoon. and then by evening really not much more. but in terms of the high temperatures today. we're looking at low 50s. 52 on the pence lasmt richmond, 53 in san rafael. breezy on the coast.

highway 37, black point and around big bend is rain. in the 30s and 40s right now. at cold day with temperatures just barely making it to 50. the rain pushes through by midday. and we are looking at a brief break before an active week. chris? >> lisa, thank you. as the snow hits the sierra the chp shut down some roads. highway patrol tweeted there have been multiple spin outs. the chp is also encouraging people to use chains and drive safely. the field of presidential hopefuls continues to get more crowded. today amy klobuchar will announce if she intends to run. and elizabeth warren kicked off yesterday officially in massachusetts. joining a growing field of democratic contenders.

sfo right now where it is certainly wet there and live doppler 7 confirms that area of rain slicing across the bay. and you will see into the south bay, the central coast and plenty of mix with the white and pink. into mount hamilton, probably the snowiest part of the bay right now. 4,000 feet we had the snow yesterday. to its been a couple of inches and over into the east bay looking into the higher hills here and also the wet weather from 580 oakland. highway 24, lafayette and back across the bay. san francisco it is wet down through half moon bay and certainly pretty pictures hopefully this morning when the sun comes up around highway 17. bolder creek. it is a k this probably will be history by the middle of the day. but you can see its ended in the north bay. still a few showers. locally a 1 on the impact scale

for your sunday morning with the showers. brief down pours like yesterday. the wintry mix and breezy at times. certainly feeling like february. highlighting the areas where we're look at the hills and the rain/snow mix up to four inches above 2,000 feet and likely the east bay hills and around mount hamilton seeing that. from san francisco right now. the perspective is pretty good. reign and snow mix this morning. cold but a dry afternoon so we'll get the rain over with the first part of the day but it remains unsettled. a break monday and by late tuesday it looks like the rain wants to return by the middle of the week. by this morning you will notice the pockets of showers in the next few hours and we're not done yet. because by about 10:30 still looking at rain here it. pushes south and finally exits the south bay by about noontime and the rest of the day featuring drier skies. so amounts with this cold system anywhere from a couple of hundredths in the east bay.
