we know it's raining
4:12 am
everywhere this morning. let's talk about what happens if it continues to rain. at least until 10:00, we'll have runoff and flash flooding. that's possible in the areas in green. now we've got the winds out there. that's been the biggest story so far this morning from everybody that's been out and about. you can see the yellow. that's where we have the gusts up to 50, 55 miles per hour. even we've already seen up to 60 to 65 in the areas in brown. i would expect more trees to lose their footing. come down and lose more power. flood stage, we're going to hit it in napa river near st. helena. that flood stage is 25 feet in napa. there's a flood warning there. this is continuous. it's ongoing for the next couple of days as the water continues to feed into the river. i mean, it's just not water that falls right on the river but all around it. as you can see, we've got rain about everywhere across the state and funnels into the rivers. that's why we're going to see the rise over the next several days. if you're traveling today, the high country is full of snow. we have potential and greater
4:13 am
chance of rocks and mudslides in southern california. today, rain and snow in the sierra. snow level of about 6,000 feet. it's all snow starting friday, saturday and sunday. so you'll want to get up there today if you want to ski on free sierra cement or fresh sierra cement. >> mike, thank you. the contra costa sheriff's office released photos of a man suspected of assault and attempted rape. investigators say the victim met this man on a b.a.r.t. train in san francisco january 31st. the incident happened in bay point near mims avenue and canal road. the female victim says they got off the train together, walking in an empty field when he exposed himself to her. investigators say the suspect assaulted her and tried to remove her clothing. she was able to get away. frightening moments for people on a delta flight. they were going from orange county to seattle. really rough turbulence hit the

plane. it hurt three passengers and two flight attendants. >> numerous injuries. i don't have a number of how many. i understand we have two flight attendants incapacitated with several passengers. >> the flight made an emergency landing. they finally landed in seattle last night, more than four hours after the expected arrival time. >> the flight attendant up in the air, every tray flipped over on her. >> you can see the people who aren't belted in. they're hitting the ceiling and flying up out of their seats. always wear your seatbelts. >> there's the pictures from inside the plane. you can see that beverage cart turned over. three of the injured were taken to a hospital. they're expected to be okay. crews will be back out on the bay bridge this morning to complete repairs and try to figure out what caused an electrical problem. a live look from the emeryville camera where you can see lights are back on. it was a different story last night. >> i don't know what's going on at the bay bridge.
4:15 am
>> vertical lights on the eastern span were cycling on and off. sky 7 captured the flickering lights. crews shut off the light installation as they worked to fix the problems. cal trans says it did not impact traffic. now to our breaking news in sausalito. a major mudslide there. so this is 434 sausalito boulevard. we're hear some people are trapped in their homes and we're talking to brian carmody on the phone for us. you're there, brian. what are you seeing? brian, can you hear me? we'll try again. brian carmody, can you hear me on the phone? sounds like we're having trouble getting him. we'll try to reconnect and get it for you in a second. for now, we'll look at another weather forecast from mike nicco. >> we'll start with the current temperatures. i want you to know how balmy outside it is right now.
4:16 am
we talked about how it would get warmer overnight with the warm front pushing through. it feels every bit of it. upper 50s to low 60s from 57 in cloverdale to 63 right now in mountain view. here's the reason why. look at these winds coming straight out of the south. still reporting around 50 to 60 mile per hour winds from novato to san francisco. you keep an eye on those neighborhoods. if you hear a tree creaking, make sure you get away from it. there may be debris flying out of the trees as well. let's talk about what's going on as far as live doppler 7. when it loads, it's going to show you that we've still got a coastal and bay flood advisory today because of high tide coming in and the fact that we've got higher than normal waves because of this. this goes through 8:00 this morning. high tide hits at about 6:00 this morning. we've got to watch out for that. all right. here we go in the santa cruz
4:17 am
mountains. what we're seeing is a lot of green with embedded yellow. the heaviest of the storms are moving towards morgan hill, gilroy. so look out for a lot of standing water on 101. heading into san jose, you can see between cupertino and saratoga right there on prospect road. that's where we have a good downpour. that's heading towards 280 and eventually could head to santa clara. as we move up and you can see around milpitas, the sunol ground, south on 680 towards discovery bay on highway 4. we've got a good shower there. up in the north bay, more scattered light rain. so let me go through the forecast for you. here we are. the time frame is in your upper right-hand corner. this is 5:30. you can still see a lot of green, lot of light rain. embedded yellows. heavier showers there. as we head through the morning commute, it starts to clear out a little bit until 9:00.
4:18 am
then we get a first chance of a thunderstorm or heavier showers with brief downpours and localized heavy rain. also notice up around ukiah we get our first taste of cooler weather as the snow level starts to drop and snow mixes in. now, this is all falling apart by noon. still hanging on in the south bay and the peninsula. a little bit of a break in the afternoon hours except for the north bay. here comes another cold front and look how it turns the wintry mix into snow around ukiah. this is going to move through as the evening commute ends. up until 8:30. this is another chance of thunderstorms with downpous, flooding and locally gusty winds. my storm concerns out of this 2 today are close to where we were yesterday with the 3. but because the at the 3 set up us by saturating everything, even though this storm won't be quite as strong, it could cause the same kind of damage. here's a quick look at my
4:19 am
accuweather seven-day forecast and we'll have a cold core system with thunderstorms possible and showers and snow showers friday, saturday and sunday. back to you guys. thank tu, mike. we want to get back to our breaking news in sausalito. reports of a major mudslide. we have reports that people are stuck in their homes at 43 and 49 crescent avenue. >> brian carmody, photographer is brian, what are you seeing? >> i showed up at about 49 crescent this morning. the street is complete pli blocked with the wreckage crescent avenue. it's also below crescent avenue. i believe this house used to be an address on sausalito boulevard. >> we're looking at the video now of what you're describing. this looks like a big mess. so do we know how many people may be now trapped in their homes? >> i know for sure that there's one person and i'm hearing on the scanner that there is a
4:20 am
second person trapped in possibly another home. it was very heartbreaking. i could actually hear the woman calling for help. she sounded fine, she sounded tired and obviously stressedt e. when i was there, there was a sole marin county deputy trying to talk to her and keep her in good spirits. most of the fire activity, the rescue activity was going on, on the other side which i couldn't see because of so much wreckage there. but he kept trying to talk to her and making sure she was still with us, as i was departing that little block there, an ambulance was starting to show up. southern marin has several fire units there. there are deputies from marin county and also all of southern marin, police forces on the
4:21 am
scene. >> apart from this woman, you said she was fine. the woman that you heard being r area. you mentioned those ambulances. we're getting some reports that perhaps there are injuries. have you seen anything or can you confirm anything from the ground? >> i have not. the devastation that's up here, though, i am very worried. there are -- you know, this house looked like -- it looks like video that we see from the south or the east of a house that's been completely flattened from a hurricane. it's just absolutely amazing the damage that i'm seeing. >> have you seen that there's any -- an effort to actually bring her out of the house? are they actively working on getting her safely out? >> so it sounds like they were trying to rescue the other woman that was trapped and they didn't realize that there was a second person that was trapped and alive. so that's why this -- the deputy that was there was on his cell phone talking to dispatch trying to get fire units to where he
4:22 am
was because it was a much shorter path to where she was trapped. he could actually see her hand in some of that wreckage. if you see the shots that i have there of that deputy, he was actually trying to talk to her. >> brian, we have the video that you have from earlier this morning and we see that rain coming down. can you describe the conditions right now as far as what those rescuers are dealing with? >> when i was up there, it was kind of a lull in the storm. there was no rain, no wind. now the rain is coming down again. it is a bit windy. where i'm at, i just saw a huge transformer explode and you can see that huge flash of light in the sky. 'm pretty sure we're going to have power outages in sausalito. >> brian, lost you for a second. for people just tuning in to us
4:23 am
this morning, this is one house that appears to be -- to have broken up. are there trees that have fallen down on it? what actually happened to this house? >> the house moved. that's what i know. and i'm not sure if it was -- i believe this house was an address on sausalito boulevard that slid down the hill and most of the house is resting on the roadway of crescent and there's some of the house that is below and up against another house. from what i'm hearing on the scanners, it does sound like it may be another house that's collapsed also, which is where the second woman that i didn't hear is trapped also. >> okay. brian, we're getting word from our newsroom upstairs saying that there was a woman rescued from that house that you mentioned. perhaps two women that needed help. once again, can you just describe the area thereorith sausalito. what road did you take to getin to area?
4:24 am
>> i went up main to crescent. and the thing about sausalito i very steep hills and there's a lot of trees and everything is very, very close together. so if you're on one roadway, you can toss a stone and would hit the next roadway down. it's very compact and very tight. we have marin county urban search and rescue responding also. it's a major, major scene out here. >> brian, in the video we're seeing that you shot earlier, there's kind of a hill where you're seeing a lot of debris. it looks like wood, pieces of the hill. what is that, that we're looking at? is that a retention wall, part of the home? >> that's the house. that is the house. the house is literally on the roadway below where it used to sit. it's kind of cascaded all the
4:25 am
way down below it also. >> it's just a crumbled mess. you cannot make anything out. >> right. there is a woman -- so the closest rubble that you see where that deputy is, there is a woman that's about ten feet away from him trapped inside there. >> oh, my goodness. >> how many rescue personnel are out there right now? >> i have no idea the exact number. i'm hearing several units from southern marin and then they're getting allied agency support from marin county fire and central marinfire. >> my concern would be that there would be other homes that could slide down in other areas. is there any effort to evacuate the neighbors or do you see any neighbors on the street? >> i actually spoke -- we have sound with one of the neighbors that was on the scene below. i actually ran into a couple down on bridgeway that was -- had basically fled the scene
4:26 am
there. they live right next to where this house had collapsed. they were with their dog and they were headed towards the main sausalito police department and fire station for some shelter. but, the authorities are way too busy trying to make these rescues. life safety is the first objective and to get people out afterwards once these people are rescued, i'm sure, will be taking place. >> brian, are there people on the streets looking at what happened? are there neighbors able to get out of their home just fine and are they being told to evacuate? >> i saw two neighbors that were right where the slide was and were kind of in shock of the whole thing. again, i saw the other couple that was down. that's the only people i've seen on the street this morning. most of sausalito is asleep and doesn't realize this is going on. >> right. you said that there was a break in the weather.
4:27 am
but now it's starting to rain again? >> it is raining here in sausalito now, yes. >> okay. >> brian, have you seen any power lines down? i know you mentioned that transformer blowing out. but have you seen any poles down in the area? >> no other power lines down and no other trees down on my way in. i came across the golden gate bridge and took alexander avenue and it was all just clear sailing until i ran into that deputy there. >> you mentioned a lot of people probably asleep. not even realizing this is happening. which is, of course, another concern. if this gets worse and people are sleeping and unaware that this may be a danger, it's going to be hard to get people out of their homes. >> i'm certain that's what happened to this lady that's trapped much she was asleep and didn't realize how bad the storm was. i had been up a few hours before and we had torrential rains in san francisco, just sheeting and super, super high winds. woke up myself and a couple of pets at my house.
4:28 am
it was really something to see. >> you're looking at video that you took. now we have a live picture from our crew who just arrived there. to be honest, i'm not sure what i'm looking at. i don't know if this is the other side of the house. i don't know where this is. if our producer could give us a clue of what we're looking at here, that would be helpful. >> yeah. reggie, that's basically was my experience. what am a looking at here? what is this? then i realized it was a house and to hear that lady in there calling for help was heartbreaking. >> it looks like our crew that is there is down the hill from the mudslide i'm told. they can't get to where you were before to take that video because they have been blocked. it looks like there's a large tree that came down. that may be blocking the path in front of one of the vehicles there. you are located where now? >> i'm actually on bridgeway.
4:29 am
i had to move to get a signal to get the video up. >> you're no longer in front of that house that we saw in your vid video? >> correct. >> brian, we appreciate you speaking to us this morning and giving us the information. brian carmody on the phone with us taking this video not long ago of this house that appears to have slid down a hill with a woman trapped inside and possibly a second person trapped and now there appears to be a rescue operation for those people. >> that home is unrecognizable. what you're seeing there, that debris is the home that slid just down the hill. you see crews trying to figure out how to rescue the folks and take care of the other people in the immediate area dealing with roads that are closed as well as potentially being trapped in their own homes. mike is here telling us that there's 5 inches of rain that came down in that area? >> 5 inches of rain in that area. that's the reason why we're seeing what we're seeing.
4:30 am
a lot of that came down yesterday when we had 2.5 to 3 inches. it was moistened by the first wave and the second wave came through and then the winds. once the winds get underneath of eave of a roof or something, it an start to lift that roof like a sail and start to push. maybe that could have dislodged the house. once the house started to dislodge because of the wind, then the sole gives way and the whole thing goes. >> that's from what time period? >> the last 48 hours. >> what are they looking at ahead today? >> that's a good question. let's go to live doppler 7. there we go. 4.92 inches of rain the last 48 hours. let me show you that the heaviest of the rain is over. the atmospheric river, the brighter whiter clouds you see there are sliding down to the south. so we're already start to go transition from waves of steady modete
