the morning commute. we'll take you into state route 37. we knew this would be an issue. here we go. we have a closure of state route 37. this is a sig-alert. chp issued this at 3:10 this morning. as of now, just the westbound side is closed at atherton. you'll be diverted off on to atherton and back on to 101. a bit of a reroute there. we have amy hollyfield at the scene for us this morning. amy, what can you tell us? >> reporter: hi, good morning. alexis. we just got here. we're expecting to see a lot of confusion now that this artery has been shut down. westbound 37 here in novato. let's take a look at the video at the issue they're dealing with. there's too much water. then there was novato creek, it was at capacity. now it's flooded to a field to the south of the highway. officers say they have to take this step. it's a safety precaution. >> if we have water coming

across, it doesn't take much moving water on a roadway to impact a car. we can have flooded vehicles, vehicles swept away. it's a safety concern at that point. >> no word yet on how long this closure will last. at this point, you should not -- we'll stay on top of this and keep you posted. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. amy, thank you. a rockslide is impacting traffic in marin county. the chp closed the slow lane of southbound 101 at rodeo avenue in sausalito. so these are photos from the chp and marin. you can see how large some of the boulders are. some of the small rocks spilled over into the fast lane. no word on when the slow lane will reopen. it's an anxious morning for many people living near the russian river. >> the river flooded in parts and more rain is coming. >> i'm getting everything up as high as i can so it doesn't happen again. >> anyone living inside the rv

park in guerneville had to evacuate after water rushed in forcing people to pack up and get out. it forced school districts and more roads to close yesterday. one man tells us about difficulty he's having driving in the area because of all the flooded roads. >> the messed up thing, it's flooded between here. my truck is on a mountain and still flooded behind it. i can't get in it or out of it. >> water isn't expected to recede for days. all those folks evacuated from the rv park don't expect to go home until sunday at the earliest. >> an ac transit passenger took -- this was at 7th street near the interstate 880 underpass. water seeped through the doors and flooded the floor of the bus. a district spokesperson said the driver broke the rules by driving through standing water. it wasn't just the ac transit driver who tried to get through the standing water. look at this. the driver of this bmw got

stranded at the same flooded intersection. a big rig came to his rescue to push the stalled car out of the water >> at last check, about 10,000 bay area residents don't have power. according to the utility at the peninsula and the north bay are the hardest hit areas making up more than 3/4 of those in the dark. here's a live lock at sfo. at least this morning, we can see the tower. there's another round of headaches for travelers. more than 120 flights were canceled. 400 others were delayed yesterday. the biggest impact on the short flights that go to and from west coast destinations like here to l.a. blizzard-like conditions made driving challenging. traffic is being held along 80 between placer county because of whiteout conditions. chain controls in effect on 15

richmond, richmond to east richmond, to 580, 80. all wet. here's a look at a very quiet toll plaza. you can see standing water there and a car coming down pretty quickly. hopefully they're driving for the conditions. the roads, you'll be dodging showers and wet spots today. mass transit, dress warmer. it's significantly cooler. up to 15 degrees cooler this morning. in fact, look at this. 9 in half moon bay to up to 15 in concord. we knew when the cold front came through, did you feel the temperatures yesterday afternoon, they were colder than this morning. we'll have temperatures that will rise this afternoon. not much. in the mid to upper 40s in the east bay valleys and pretty much everywhere else. lows dpat owes at 39 degrees. san francisco 49. the chance of rain throughout the day. the temperatures holding around 50 to 51 degrees. north bay, stuck in the 40s all day with a mixture of sun and

showers. in the evening hours, showers and stars. the east bay, 50s. we'll have spotty showers after that. this morning, much easier getting to work even though i ran into a shower or two. but the winds were so much different. >> i had a little bit of road spray kicking up from the roads that were already wet. i didn't have any current rain. the winds, nothing like yesterday. it made the drive this morning seem pretty nice. definitely take that over the last couple of days. especially across the bay bridge. that was really dicey. we're looking at walnut creek. southbound 680. no current issues heading towards the 24 split. that is good. we've got a few brake lights filling in north of that. really not looking bad this morning. we're seeing all of the typical busy areas slowly start to fill in. the drive times are friday light this morning. even out of the central valley. westbound 80, highway 4 to the maze. in the green at 17 minutes. across the bay bridge, should take you eight minutes.

let's take a look at what's going on across the state today. you can see so cal. they're going to get more rain but not as much as yesterday. at some points parts of san diego underwater. let's look at the temperatures. low to mid-50s through the central valley and monterey. look at the heavy snow in the sierra. let's take a look at the winter storm warning that continues through at least 4:00 in the morning and another 1 to 3 feet of snow possible above 3500 feet. alexis just told me 80 is closed. 50 you need chains. i don't know why you'd try to travel there at all. i want to show you something i haven't seen in a long time. look at the temperatures for tahoe today through next thursday. not a single day gets above freezing. in fact, several of our nights will be in the single digits moderate to heavy snow today. moderate snow tomorrow. lighter snow for sunday. it's not going to be easy to get there and get back.

exclusive interview. >> i respect too much the people who i am now one of those people who have been attacked in any way. you do such a disservice when you lie about things like this. >> smollett said the man yelled homophobic and racial slurs as they attacked him during a late night walk in chicago. we're hearing from the lyft driver whose fatherly instincts kicked in when he saw a toddler wandering barefoot on a cold rainy night in santa rosa earlier this week. this video has gone viral. he found the toddler between 18 and 24 months old alone in an apartment complex parking lot at 10:30 as he was dropping off a passenger. >> barefoot. soaking wet onesie. full diaper. soaking wet hair. yeah, it was heartbreaking. >> i knocked on a few of the doors. nobody even recognized the baby.

i cranked up the heat in the car to try to warm her up and calm her down. we sat in the car until santa rosa pd showed up. police say this case involving the little girl was not neglect and she most likely wandered out an unlocked door. thank goodness for him. a retirement community inviting to take a step back in time at a vintage wedding displ display. >> it includes 20 wedding gowns and photos of the brides and grooms at wedding dates. every gown is at least 100 years old dating back to 1907. the public is invited to take a look. the display will be up through the end of the month. >> that's cool. i like looking at my grandmother's wedding photos. isn't that cool? you can see how the dresses have changed and they look so young. >> how much more fabric in them back then than nowadays. >> there's a lot of fabric. >> say yes to the dress.

others. you can see yellows in the santa cruz mountains and snow up in the north bay mountains and hampton in the valleys -- hamill tons. tonight another cool one with 30s in the north bay valleys. san ramon valley. 40s for the rest of us. here we are at 7:00 and as we head through time, you'll see them come in. everything is coming in from the west and the cold front comes in at 8:00 tonight. there may be an uptick in the intensity of those showers. once that passes, the showers come in from the northwest and they won't have as much moisture. they'll be even cooler. our snow level will continue to drop tomorrow. we can get snow on hamilton and possibly places lower than that like diablo by the time we get to sunday morning. my accuweather seven-day forecast. so we're a 1 for today. and a 1 for tomorrow. the 1 for sunday. every one of these days, we have a threat of a thunderstorm. so not only could we have snow

in the mountains, but we could have hail down at the lower elevations. when you get caught under one of these heavier downpours, it's going to cause ponding on the roadways. there's nowhere for the water to go. alexis? >> thank you, mike. we don't have many issues on the board so far today. just a few incidents that are not making any big delays. definitely glad for that. our biggest issues is the closure of westbound 37 at atherton. that is closed due to flooding. we have a sig-alert in effect. only the westbound side is closed now. authorities are expecting a full closure. eastbound will have to close as well sometime this morning. amy hollyfield is there. she's kooemg keeping a close eye on it. you'll be forced off atthtond r itotsi abackup. it certainly will the later into the morning. the bay bridge toll plaza, we have high winds in effect for the bay bridges. ao

observations. we're above flood stage and we're cresting just about now at nearly 35 feet. that means moderate flooding. the forecast calls for the russian river to slowly recede and drop below flood stage by 4:00 tomorrow morning. mike, thank you. one of the quickest weapons in the navy's high tech arsenal is on display in san francisco ahead of its official commissioning tomorrow. the "uss tulsa" is parked along the embarcadero. it countered threats from mines, submarines and small swarming attack boats. the massive hold can transport helicopters to portable specific modules. the state of the art bridge does not have a traditional steering wheel but commander says there's definitely a high tech ee kwif le length of a gas pedal. >> the first time the main engines were online and we put

you can see everybody is under a threat of thunderstorms today and again tomorrow. it's marin county and southward. so it looks like solano sonoma county, the showers will be lighter and moving south. we get .15 inches to .75 inches. tomorrow, we'll add .2 inches to a third of an inch. we're getting to healthy levels. half inch to three quarters of an inch. i believe we'll have more flooding on the roads. that's the highest probability. the trees and power lines, not an overall wind event, but localized winds could cause that and localized heavy rain could cause more mudslides. reggie? >> thanks, mike. warriors head coach steve kerr has to pay a $25,000 fine. the nba fined him for his outburst wednesday night in the warriors loss against portland. kerr exploded after a flagrant foul was called on draymond
