goes to 101. chp issued that sig-alert about 3:10 this morning. all traffic being diverted on to atherton. you can reconnect to 101 in the novato area. we do have abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield on the scene for us. amy, i saw the latest tweet from novato pd. they're thinking the closure will last until 8:00 this morning. >> reporter: it's terrible news. the closure is not great. but 8:00 a.m. isn't awful. so some people might be able to plan it into their commute this morning. let me show you the closure. these are the people coming off of 37. behind those cars, you'll see the cones blocking anyone from going westbound. cars are actually being diverted before they make it to this point. we're being diverted on atherton avenue. no cars allowed on westbound 37 in novato. authorities had said yesterday that thisth srt preparing for i. it is flooded because a levee

was breached. the water washed out railroad tracks. tracks used to haul freight. officials said last night they would be keeping an eye on the highway and keeping it open as long as they could. but with high tide and runoff and then, of course the levee breach, it was too much to handle. now there is water on the highway. they're worried about cars stalling out, being carried away. it's not safe. they're aiming to open it up at 8:00 this morning. live in novato, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thank you, amy. developing news in sausalito. crews will guion clear debris an sausalito boulevard today after a mudslide destroyed a home. >> brooks gordon says his 75-year-old mother woke up neck deep in mud. she was sleeping in her duplex

with her cat peaches when her home went sliding down the hill and into another house. >> i got to be honest with you. i didn't realize what the magnitude was of what it happened until i watched the video avid gotten off the phone with my mom who was in the hospital. >> this is a photo susan at the hospital. amazingly she only suffered cuts and bruises. we've also seen the community step up. susan gordon's go fund me page raised more than $20,000. this is not the first time a massive mudslide hit sausalito. in 1982 a woman was killed and 600 people ordered to evacuate for the same reason the slide ripped a home from its foundation. it sent it sliding nearly a block away directly into another home. emergency officials had to shut down the golden gate bridge because of all the mud that dumped on to highway 101. today the san jose police chief is planning to talk more about a man shot and killed by police after a dramatic chase.

>> police say he carjacked a ups truck and took the driver hossage. matt keller live in san jose this morning. matt? >> reporter: good morning, reggie. law enforcement wrapped up their on-scene investigation overnight. later today, san jose police chief eddie garcia is going to talk to us about this deadly shooting. this all came to an end around 7:00 last night. friends are identifying the suspect as mark marosky. by aur suit with him and another woman started last night. he fired shots with one bullet hitting a patrol car. they come on deered a u.p.s. truck that led them to north first and trimble. the man took off running gun in hand when he was shot by law enforcement. he died at the scene. friends say he was afraid of going to prison for life. >> he wanted us to call dispatch and tell them to back off and give him time to make his phone calls and be okay with the

decision of giving himself up to do life in prison because he's a two-striker. >> reporter: female suspect was taken into custody. the hostage was unharmed. his records show he was previously arrested for robbery and possession of stolen property. today's news conference with chief garcia is scheduled for 12:30. matt keller, abc 7 news. thank you, matt. new this morning a foster city man is facing several charges including auto burglary after being detained by one of his victims. investigators say 22-year-old was caught stealing property from a victim's suv on bucknell drive late wednesday night. the victim confronted him and held him. officers searched his car and found evidence connecting him to several other thefts on the peninsula earlier that night. improvements to affordable hosing projects, public pools, health clinics and schools in san francisco are delayed and city officials are blaming pg&e.

according to the examiner, the san francisco public utilities commission wants to use its own hydroelectric power. they say pg&e is making unreasonable demands regarding the use of its infrastructure to transmit the power. the commission released a report that found 53 public projects are impacted, costing at least $4.6 million. pg&e says it's taking the city's complaint seriously and is working with the city to find common ground. abc 7 news is committed to building a better bay area. >> this week, we're looking at the challenges facing b.a.r.t. a new state law requires b.a.r.t. to build housing at its stations. this law isn't about renovating empty parking lots. it's about local control. >> the bill is unnecessary. it was a power grab by b.a.r.t. and their supporters. the issue is not whether we want more housing in the area around b.a.r.t. it's how you do it. >> there's creative ways to address it. we'll continue to do that.

miles an hour. you have one slow spot on 580 before you get into altamont pass area. 28 miles an hour. all things considered, that is not bad. we're still in the green for that drive time. bay bridge toll plaza looking good. we have a high-wind advisory in effect for several bridges. but nothing like the last couple of days. not the white knuckle drive in. however, you can see road spray kicking up. we had a shower move through the area. it is soggy in stretches. not a washout. but you are going to have to have the wipers on and make sure you're driving for conditions. here's some pretty good looking drive times. southbound 101, santa rosa to petaluma. 14 minutes. castro valley to the maze, 14. 280, 680 to 85. you're in the green at 11 minutes on 101. a santa clara judge signed an arrest warrant for a nebraska football player maurice washington. he faces one felony count of child pornography and a misdemeanor count of distributing a private sexual video to cause emotional

distress. known as revenge porn law. washington's attorney, john ball, released a statement saying washington will continue to move forward with a self-surrender. meaning mr. washington will not be arrested or extradited and he will voluntarily appear in court in california. this all stems from a video the victim says he sent her after she regeorgia teched his sexual advances last year. it shows her being sexually assaulted when she was just 15. washington's attorney says his client had absolutely nothing to do with the alleged sexual assault. a new effort to ban gun shows at the cal palace could mean the entire arena is demolished for housing. state senator scott wiener and phil ting have -- to transfer the property. the state owns the arena that's on the border of san francisco and daly city. if the bill passes, a joint powers authority could take control. the land could be redeveloped. bad news if you drink

bridge toll plaza. no metering lights yet. we made it to 5:30 in the labs several days. some lighter than average volumes today. we have an issue with flooding on state route 37 in novato. a full closure of the westbound side of 37 at atherton. this is a sig-alert. instead, traffic is being diverted off at atherton and back on to 101. that's where we have abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live for us this morning. amy, how is the backup looking for the detour. >> reporter: i mean, it's moving. the cars are moving on atherton. you're looking at the cars coming off the 37 right now. it's not raining right now. so that's a nice break. they are thinking that they're going to be able to get this reopened by 8:00 this morning. we are talking about westbound 37 in novato. this is at atherton. floodwater has forced them to shut this down. that's because the levee was

breached in two places from all of the rain this week. authorities say even a little bit of water can be dangerous. they have to be precaution. >> it doesn't take much moving water, flowing water on a roadway to impact a car. we can have flooded vehicles, we can have vehicles swept away. it's a safety concern at that point. >> reporter: the water washed out some railroad tracks. so those tracks are used to haul freight not people. so that's an issue as well. authorities had said yesterday that this might happen. they said they kept the highway open as long as they could. it was about 3:00 this morning when they said the water was too much and they had to shut it down. reporting live in novato, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. amy, thank you sdpliefrmt a rockslide is impacting traffic in marin county. the chp closed the slow lane at rodeo avenue in sausalito and these are photos from the chp in marin.

do we have them? do we have the photos? there we go. you can see how large some of those boulders are that came crashing down. some of the small rocks spilled over into the fast lane. no word when the slow lane will reopen. meanwhile, it's an anxious morning for many people near the russian river. >> that's because of the flooding and rain is coming. >> i'm getting things up as high as i can. >> anyone inside the rv park in guerneville, water rushed in and forced everyone to pack up and congest out. the storm forced four school districts and more than 30 roads to close yesterday. one man tells us about the difficulty he's having driving in the area because of the flooded roads. >> the messed up thing it's flooded between here, my truck is on a mountain and flooded behind it. so i can't get in or out of it. >> water is not expected to recede for days. all the folks evacuated from.

rv park don't expect to go home until sunday at the earliest. an ac transit passenger took video when her bus sloshed through a flooded intersection. this is near interstate 880 underpass. water seeped through the dars and flooded the door of the bus. the driver broke the rules by driving through standing water. it wasn't just the ac transit driver who got stuck in that standing water. this is the same intersection. a big rig came to a bmw's rescue to push the stalled car out of water. at last check, 10,000 bay area residents without power. this gives you an idea where the outages are. according to the utility, the peninsula and the north bay are the hardest hit areas making up more than three quarters of those in the dark. here's a live look from sfo. it's been tough this week for people to get in and out of the airport. more than 120 flights were canceled. 400 others were delayed yesterday. the biggest impact on those short haul flights to and from

it ended with one of them being shot dead by police. this morning, friends are identifying the suspect as this man. mark morasky. according to san jose police, this all started when deputies tried to pull over a car around 5:00 p.m. on pearl and chenoweth. a man and woman did not stop. they led deputies on a chase and ditched their car. at some point they carjacked a u.p.s. truck, took the driver hostage and then started a second chase which ended at first and west trimble. sky 7 shows the scene after that. a long line of police cars behind the truck as the man and woman refused to come out. after a short time, the female suspect walked out of the truck. the u.p.s. driver was eventually released and just before 7:00 p.m. the male suspect attempted to run from the u.p.s. truck. that's when he was shot ted by an officer. >> you have to realize this person was armed with a gun. some sort of shotgun, long gun. he's displayed a propensity towards violence and shot at our

to 16 degrees cooler in concord to 14ooler in san jose. yep. old man winter is back with temperatures in the low to mid-40s in the north bay until you get to ukiah and clear lake. 39, 36. we've got upper 40s in vallejo and tiburon and american canyon the closer you are to the water. south bay and east bay valleys. here's what i expect on the east bay valleys. 46 at 8:00. a chance of scattered showers. you can see up until noon that we'll get a little bit of a break. i believe it at just about any time, we could have showers. our temperatures are well below average. in the south bay, we barely make it to 50 at noon and 2:00. most of the day in the mid to upper40s. check out the peninsula, we may spike at 51 at noon. but expect temperatures most of the day in the mid to upper 40s. we'll have breezes out of the west. there will be a slight windchill in the air. dress warmer today. have the sunglasses and have the umbrella and look for rainbows and #tag them at abc 7 now.

how about on the roads? >> we've got a little bit of everything there. although much, much quieter than the last couple of days. thank goodness. we're friday light for the most part. i do want to take you into the tri-valley. if you're trying to get into livermore using vasco road, we have a one-vehicle crash on the southbound side of vasco road past the county line north of 580. we've got one lane blocked. emergency crews are on the scene. that's about a 20-minute delay right now according to the partners at waze. you don't want to get caught in that. the 580 corridor is looking great all things considered. i would stick to the main line if possible. looking live at state route 87 in san jose, filling in on the inbound side. nothing major yet. a quick check of drive times today. overall looking good. southbound 680. no delays out of walnut creek. santa rosa to san francisco. we have a crash on northbound 17 in the scots creek area. that's another rollover crash blocking one lane. so highway 1 into los gatos in
