hail coming down hard there. it comes in the days of rain. >> good evening. >> now while that hail was coming down here. snow has been coming down in lake tahoe. >> it's a big draw for skiers and snow borders. this is the traffic back up in highway 50. trying to get there. >> not quite a sight officials want to see. telling people to stay away because of potentially dangerous conditions. a look at i 80. which has been shut down forcing people to go the other way or change plans. >> just in the past hour. highway patrol crews had to shut down part of highway 50 because of a slide. between twin bridges sp myers. several vehicles were hit. thankfully in the situation nobody hurt. the highway patrol is suggesting people simply stay home. >> all right you can imagine with the road closures some people are changing plans for the long holiday weekend. >> live at a sports basement

the driver become a police officer. after his quick thinking yesterday. when he was carjacked at gunpoint. >> he was forced to be a get away driver. >> a ups driver is being credited by san jose police for averting a disaster. >> this guy is amazing. i need to give him an application. the things he did to keep himself safe and help us capture the violent felon. >> the ups driver who is not identified found himself in violent events thursday. he was taken hostage by two suspects trying to flee law enforcement. >> he purposely drove over the spike strips. they wanted him to drive faster. he lied and told him the ups truck couldn't go over 50 miles per hour. because he didn't want the police to lose the truck. >> it started at the light rail station in san jose. sheriffs approached what they thought was a suspicious black suv parked illegally in the lot

with a suspect sitting inside. sources identified them as 33 year-old and 24 year-old macy rogers of san jose. the two took off leading officers on a chase. police say rogers fired several round striking the deputy vehicle. the chase continued and the suspects eventually abandoned the suv and carjacked a ups driver. they took him hostage and drove his truck to first and trimable in san jose. rogers turned herself in. and he let the ups driver go. he ran from the truck. a police officer shot and killed him after police say he started running with a gun. sheriff smith praised the work of law enforcement. sharing what investigators later found in the zu. >> they had a loaded shotgun. shells. a machete, duct tape and zip i n leavi to wonder what

find all ways to avoid paying for the subway. passengers see it all the time. >> doint like it. it's unfair. it's immoral. >> it's not fair. that others get to get on for free. and we have to pay. >> new york authorities estimate 4% of riders are not paying to ride. that's the same on bart. authorities here say 4 to 5% of riders are skipping fares. those evaders cost the agency as much as $25 million in lost fares. a system built similar to bart. but with twice as many riders. the rate is higher. nearly three times. 11%. more than 9 million stolen rides each year. so what is bart doing to solve the problem? the agency is experimenting with new gates like this one. that are harder to slip through. whether they will keep people from jumping over them is another question.
