now, from abc7, live breaking news. >> and that breaking news is in an fran. the orpheum theater was evacuated during a performance of "hamilton," what is the latest. >> reporter: yeah, that is right, initially reports of gunshots fired or an active shooter. that is not what happened. the police have just cleared the scene here. i spoke with the police a few moments ago. this is what they told me much. someone suffered a medical emergency, possibly a heart attack, the person sitting next to them yelled for help had, and that caused massive panic and people ran out. one person said they heard somebody yell gun and that an e person had to be taken out in a wheelchair. here is what someone had to say that was there. >> hamilton had just died.

what i saw, we were in the back of the orchestra, someone stand up and get carried out. someone screamed, lights, lights, all of a sudden, two people stand up really fast, it sounded like a big pop. >> reporter: now witnesses say that the show was almost over after people left, people were allowed to go back in to get their belongings. you can see now the doors are closed, the police have cleared the scene, again, no active shooter. it was a medical emergency, everyone is safe. reporting live in san francisco. abc7 news. >> that's just a solid guy right there, thinking quick. >> the u.p.s. driver that would have been behind the wheel during the deadly standoff in san jose speaks out. this is an interview you will hear only c7 news. learning the u.p.s. driver held at gunpoint was filling had ining -- filli worker that was on vacation.

tll us more about it. >> reporter: derek inman is the regular route driver that was on vacation thursday. he said that it's hard to believe what happened to his colleague covering his shift. we are not going to be identifying the driver, who was involved in that hostage situation yesterday that was taken hostage, bauecause he has asked for privacy. sheriff's deputies and police officers by the dozens thursday, chasing armed suspects through san jose, the u.p.s. driver that was carjacked is being hailed hh a hero. >> when i realized he was on my route and the more i looked in to it, i was like, that was completely where i would have been. >> reporter: we are not identifying the driver held at gunpoint, he purposely droe llly

over the spikes and did not go over the speed limit on purpose. they say his co-worker actions are not taught, it's just in his character. >> that was a solid guy, thinking quick, knowing what is going on. what do you do? you have to give him a hand, he handled himself, and i'm thankful he is all right. the driver was taken hostage, he drove nearly eight miles north where sky seven caught his release on camera. the female suspect surrendered and was arrested on scene. the male suspect, identified by friends as mark morasky was shot and killed after running from the u.p.s. truck gun in hand toward officers. the u.p.s. driver's common sense, quick thinking saved lives. >> we show up every day and do a hard job and the last thing you want to hear is somebody getting hurt trying to do their job. >> the woman arrested is facing charges attempted murder on a

going to the east bound to get the work done. normally people are going to here to marine county. as you can see, none of the cars are on the road. the reason why, the pal of water, sending everyone to highway 101 is, the flow of traffic on highway 37 west bound is not existent. >> the levy breeched a mile to the right. a product of the creek, due to the rain and water spilling on the field that surrounds the highway, and spilling over to the road. causing drivers to reroute to the 101. >> just adds more drive time to the day. >> how much more? >> probably twnt minutes. >> we asked to see the area first hand. we went under highway 37 east bound, where the levy was breeched and now their only option is to fill the hole. >> the novato river comes

through here and the force of the water or just the weight of all the water caused the levy to breech. >> tonight, caltrans closed the slow lane of highway 37 east bound to prevent flooding. the residents are tired of quick fixes. >> upon the government at this point to get it fixed. >> a massive pumping operation will kick off tuesday that will need to remove 2,000 acres feet of water. the lane will be closed for at least anothe week. for more permanent changes on highway 37, the caltrans official tells us that will take three years and more than that, it will take three extra years for permit. abc7 news. i don't want to get hit by a truck. >> no, you don't. caltrans and tahoe law enforcement are warning people

about the busy traffic on president's day weekend. all of the major roads have chain controls of. multiple spin-outs and accidents through the day have made travel a mess. >> until this evening, interstate 80 was closed because of white-out conditions. drivers who took highway 50 instead have been sitting in stop and go traffic for hours and that includes abc7 news reporter laura anthony, it took her and her family eight hours to go 25 miles. >> we knew darn well we would sit had in traffic for a long time. and we have. we are showing you, this is highway 50, right above lo ne j. it has taken us two hours from placelville. it's an hour l now and i would say we have gone about two miles, i hate to say. again, it's stop and go here on highway 50. >> hi, again, i wish i had better news, it's been pretty slow. we are not even quite to --

in the east bay tomorrow, oakland teachers could announce plans for a strike. >> they were waiting for a key report from the state that came out today, abc news reporter has more from oakland. >> wendy johnson spent friday night shopping. but at saturday night's announcement of a teachers strike is on her mind. >> my concern is for the kids. they will be out of the of school. >> reporter: they are planning a big announcement saturday, whether or not they will strike. the facebook page for them, warning parents to be ready, with the slogan the three points they are fighting for, smaller class

sizes and more teachers per student and a 3% raise. smaller class size is important for the parents too so she is supporting the teachers. the district said they don't have the money or they have to shut schools. they are offering a 5% raise. many in the community like taylor memorial church in oakland are rallying behind the stee teachers and students. the church will open so the students have to place to go in the teachers go on strike. i have been told if they go on strike, they will give parents a 48 hour notice. in oakland, abc7 news. >> and do download the abc7 news app and enable news alerts. >> nearly 100 stanford students had sensitive personal information compromised due to a flaw in the web system had that the university uses group according to the stanford daily, it happened on a platform that

let students view their own admission documents as well as the applications and high school transcripts of other students. the university said that it's working to better protect the systems and data. >> new developments now on the investigation. chicago police have released the two brothers that they been questioning because of new evidence, they are no longer considered the suspects. they are the men in the video near where smallet was attacked last month. >> in san francisco, new developments on edna the fire station cat. workers at station 49, adopted edna four years ago and were forced to give her up after an anonymous complaint. workers say they have received a cease and desist order to stop talking about the person who filed the complaint, they are able to talk about their feelings about edna but not target an individual. >> an enormous snow roller

abc7 sports. well, day one of the nba all-star weekend in charlotte is in the books. and the warriors all-stars, especially steph curry was busy. steph and his brother, seth,
