given up on herself. she's so different from me. i really believed in myself when i started out. i was like i'm going to do this. my friends called me gaga. i was like all right. yeah, i'm gaga. >> sing that song that i love. >> no, i can't do that. >> this girl, allie, she's jaded by the business. she's been told she's not beautiful enough. what's amazing is that this is a love story, and it's his love for her that gives her wings to fly. >> reporter: did you relate to that part? >> i did relate to that part, but it was different. it was different. i really had to go back to an earlier time in my life. in high school i got made fun of for having big dreams. i got made fun of for loving to sing. during that time i was bullied and made fun of, and i was depressed. that's where i drew from, from
