roadways. one of those vehicles involved caught fire and the driver was trapped for a time. i know they did get that person out. we do have major injuries reported here. we did have a sig alert issued about 10 minutes ago. chp actually had all lanes shut down up until maybe about five minutes ago they did open up that far right lane. we do have a back-up at this early hour 880 is wide open. that's your best bet for alternate. we are fairly quiet, 280 and 17, barely any vehicles on that so far. no issues to report for the south bay. >> alexis, thank you. breaking news vermont senator bernie sanders announced he is running for president in 2020. >> our campaign is about transforming our country and creating a government based on the principles of economic, social, racial and environmental justice. as you know, he ran in 2016 challenging hillary clinton in the democratic presidential primary. the 77-year-old will face off

light rail services. the reason why cutting route 22 is controversial because 40 to 45 people ride the bus for shelter during the overpass hours. vta says cutting from 1:00 to 4:00 a.m. could save $500,000 annually meaning other services in the system wouldn't have to be reduced. vta holding community meetings to get public input. the last meeting at 11:00 a.m. at san jose state's mlk library. final day to submit the comment is february 28th. if you would like information on the proposed changes go to the website, abc7news.com. reporting live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. thank you, matt. this is what remains of a tesla that crashed in fremont. it caught on fire after the crash. the driver was able to walk away with minor injuries. it's amazing when you see the pictures. the car slammed into a tree yesterday morning. it was apparently traveling at high speed. the driver told police he had just put in a 12-hour shift at tesla. police are looking into fatigue as a possible cause.

host a summit on preventing clergy sex abuse. organizers say they want to make bishops aware of their responsibilities to protect their flock and the need for transparency. in "gma's" first look at the motive on the attack of jussie smollett. >> two brothers tell police smollett staged the attack on himself after receivings a threatening letter earlier. here is jhene norman. >> a possible motive in the story surrounding the alleged attack of actor jussie smollett. a law enforcement source telling abc 7 news the brothers arrested for roles in an alleged attack on smollett told authorities he staged the attack, alleging he was upset that a threatening letter sent to "empire" chicago studio on january 22nd did not receive enough attention. detectives are actively investigating the allegation but do not believe it to be true. >> do you believe there's a link between the letter and the

two weak winter storms in the next six days. by winter we could have snow on our mountains once again. below average, though. the temperatures for the rest of the month. in fact, possibly the first five days of march. 53 to 57. it's really not that bad compared to what most of the country is dealing with right now. we should be around 60 to 64 degrees. tonight you can see the cloud cover come in and temperatures in the mid-30s to mid-40s. no more frost and a little green out there. some spotty showers tonight. the white you see in lake county, that is some snow. here is a look at what's going to happen. 11:00 tonight, a look at cloud cover rolling in. watch the green at 4:00 in the morning, mainly along the north bay and peninsula coast. that will start to eke its way a little farther to the east by the end of the morning commute. more onthe peninsula and more north bay coul with showers. then it tries to push in even more during the lunch hour and afternoon hours as it starts to

this morning. want to take you to a new issue, new sig alert, state route 84 closed in the la honda area around sears ranch road. initially calls into chp were saying a big bolder had fallen into the roadway and sounds like a tree came down as well. a small slide. in 30 minutes one lane open. for now both lanes are blocked. avoid that area. of course this is not too far from that major sinkhole on state route 35. that remains closed between alpine and state route 9. no estimate on when they will be able to get that back open. >> thank you, alexis. mobile tributes to rosa parks could be coming to san francisco. the supervisor is suggesting san francisco buses, rail and cable cars dedicate a permanent seat to rosa parks. she defied the law in 1955 by refusing to give up her seat to a white rider in montgomery, alabama. >> the fact we can be where we want attack on a public bus, that's something for all of us

the power to the bayside sky ride around 6:30 last night. the ride stopped above water. so crews had to harness each person and lower them into boats. the san diego fire department got all the guests back on the ground around 10:00 last night. seaworld will inspect the provided before it opens. fifteen people are decides placed after a through an apartment building near golden kbat park in san francisco. fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire on page street. no one was home in the top fl r floor. that's the front unit where it started. you see it in the video. it spread to the house next door damaging the roof and top floor ceiling in that location. fortunately no one was hurt. crews are restoring power. the outage started last night and took crews about two hours to find the source. the sfraens utility commission

falling on the mountains in lake county. here is a look at the storm, yesterday in the bering sea, now across the continental shelf if you will right there. it's going to come right down towards us in a quick way. it's not going to have a lot of time to gather moisture but it is going to gather some cold air. here we are at 11:00 tonight. you can see clouds rolling in. by the time we start the commut tomorrow, the best chance of spotty showers right along the coast from the peninsula to the north bay. by 9:00 that's pretty much where it is. it may be moving in just a little more in the north bay and down around gilroy. as we head past that, you can see them take a little turn to the east. we head from noon to the afternoon and evening hours, there's a better chance of stray storms rolling into your neighborhoods. then as we head to the overnight hours, that dry air funnels in. that's it. that was it. splash and dash. rainfall potential, less than a tenth of an inch.
