we're back with a crazy scene from brooklyn. a driver went on to the sidewalk just as children there were entering their school from a parked bus. the car going down the sidewalk in order to get around the bus, which obviously is illegal, and the police say they have the car's license number and are looking for that driver. a 12-year-old girl in

indiana is safe after a frightening abduction she helped end. >> it all started in a shopping center parking lot when police say a woman stole a car with the girl inside. she called 911 as the mom was reporting the incident to police. the girl was able to describe landmarks and was emotional. >> what happened? you have to tell me the whole story, honey. who are you screaming at? >> the person driving the car. >> did they kidnap you or did somebody get in the vehicle? >> yes, it's not my mother. >> the 28-year-old woman was arrested and faces several charges. police say she admitted stealing the car and that she knew the girl was inside. her motive is under investigation. >> a scary scene. that 12-year-old girl was just happy to be able to go back home. another dramatic scene in a cleveland courtroom. >> a man was being sentenced to

47 years in prison for holdsing his girlfriend hostage at gunpoint. then this happens, he attacked his own attorney's nose. they claim it could have been prevented if the defendants hands were cuffed behind his back. a worker had to move really fast to save himself during a bobsled race. >> this happened during an event in lake placid, new york. the worker is on the track right there. the bobsled comes around that turn there, and a bystander yells get out of the track. he managed to fling himself over the railing. no one was hurt. the sledders from monaco finished in last place because, that's what we do. we hit you when you're already down. >> yeah, putting people in danger and losing. good thing that man was able to jump so quickly.

officially charged jussie smollett with felony disorderly conduct for filing a false police report. smollett's legal team responding, they intent to conduct a thorough investigation for an aggressive defense. the twist comes when the brothers at the center of the investigation are seen on surveillance buying items allegedly used in a phoney attack the men claim they were paid to stage. after days of pressing smollett for a follow up interview, chicago police issuing a stark public warning. we got information and that's what we want to run by him. if the opportunity is not taken to come in we will go with other methods to create a culture of accountability. >> spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on an artist to take him down. >> reporter: the "empire" actor has insisted he was the victim of an attack. >> how do you not believe that? it's the truth. >> reporter: the fbi is already investigating whether smollett sent this threatening letter to himself a week before the attack. >> the return address said in

prosecutors say he had planned for a killing spree on a scale rarely seen in this country. they claim his possible hit list included many prominent democrats and media figures. he worked at the coast guard headquarters in washington. the fbi launched an investigation after it was tipped off by the coast guard. defense attorneys may challenge the conviction of mexican drug lord joaquin "el chapo" guzman because of potential juror misconduct. el chapo was found guilty on several counts last week and could spend the rest of his life in prison. a juror said at least five members of the jury followed the case against the judge's orders. one of el chapo's lawyers said that could mean el chapo didn't get a fair trial. they are considering all legal options. nike released the first kaepernick jersey days after he settled the collusion case. it costs $150. the former san francisco qb is promoting it on twitter. he wrote for those true to

a bus driver in newark, new jersey, is facing charges for allegedly operating her bus while on heroin. her bus was seen rolling across the snowy street and coming to a stop against a small tree. >> police say the 57-year-old driver was revived at the scene with the overdose drug narcan. none of the 12 children with special needs on board were hurt. the driver is facing a dozen counts of child welfare endangerment. newly released dashcam video shows a highway patrol officer who was almost killed by a drunk driver. >> this nevada trooper finished up with a driver when he spotted a car coming after him. he escaped with minor injuries. the suv driver was later arrested. turning to a major break in a 46-year-old case. it involved the kidnapping and murder of an 11-year-old girl south of los angeles. >> dna evidence led police more than 1,000 miles away to a suspect in colorado. here is abc's marci gonzalez.

>> reporter: the agonizing nearly 46-yearlong manhunt for this little girl's killer finally over, according to police. >> generations of investigators worked on her case. we never gave up. >> linda o'keefe vanished in july of 1973 while walking home from school. the 11-year-old found the next day, strangled in a ditch. newport beach police telling the details of that day and putting out this computer generated composite to hopefully bring leads. it was a recent dna match on the genealogy website, family tree dna, that led to their suspect, james allen neal. >> they were able to get additional dna that resulted in the corroboration of the dna from the victim's body. >> reporter: it's the same technology used to track down the golden state killer, and now police calling this cold case closed arresting neal in colorado. >> i hope he has remorse and i hope he tells the story.
