dramatic footage shows a pilot struggling to land a plane at a canton airport in ohio. as far as you can see there, near zero visibility forced the pilot to land without being able to see the runway using only on board instruments to guide him. the plane was eventually able to touchdown without a hitch. i'm sure the passengers were relieved. >> that is skill. turning now to a stunning new development in north carolina in the nation's only remaining undecided midterm congressional race. >> state officials ordered a new election amid allegations of tampered ballots and fresh drama involving one of the candidates. here is mary bruce. >> reporter: after days of dramatic testimony about the

cooking show," here to show us how to put together the ultimate oscar spread. steven, good morning, you got four amazing snacks for us. >> thank you for having me. one of my first dream jobs as a director. i have this cooking show on direct the people and i direct food and make videos and i'm happy to be here talking about oscar foods. a cheese platter is perfect because it has a little bit of everything. i have four cheeses here. i have a nice aged cheddar. when you have an aged cheese, they have these little crystals inside that make them delicious. i have some hudson valley creamier cheese, aged gouda cheese. >> and you also have some extra, like, these pecans. >> we have candied pecans and the way i like to put it together is in this abstract way where you just take a hand full of some nuts and you just drop them here. a little bit of beef jerky, create this pretty little platter here. >> taking a cheese board to a whole other level. tell me about these brussel sprouts. ant thing is ofss

they're delicious. we cut them in half. threw them in a deep fryer. it's cooler than you fry french fries in. get them until they're nice and brown and crispy and then simply season them with salt and toss them around and a little bit of agave. which is a nice sweet salty kind of element. and then you kind of put them in these little popcorn buckets. >> the perfect way to serve them. fitting for the oscars. >> fitting for the oscars. everybody can sort of have their own and these snacks are just sort of delicious. do you want to have a try? >> okay. i love brussel sprouts and those are really good. >> popcorn. you can get a bag of popcorn. they have cheese popcorn and all of these different flavors. we're going to make our own. we sort of just pop them in a dutch oven with regular popcorn kernels and olive oil until they pop.

we're going to use this melted butter as a glue. so we just pour it in there and then we take some parmesan cheese and we just grate a lot of it in there. that's going to be the cheesy element that you would get in a bag popcorn and you just sort of mix it up. get in there with your hands, get it all melted up. that butter is going to help that cheese adhere to it. and just like the brussel sprouts, i'm going to pour it into your little popcorn bucket and there you go. >> super easy. >> homemade popcorn with parmesan. >> and then the drinks, right? >> i prefer a dirty martini. i don't like it strong. i want a little bit of the olive juice brine in there. so we're going to go ahead and make a little cocktail. a martini is basically just some vodka and titos is nice and smooth and we're going to start with four ounces of it. >> okay. >> it also requires a little bit

how smollett allegedly first enlisted one brother he knew from "empire." defendant smollett texted able stating, might need your help on the low. able had been the actor's personal trainer and police say he supplied smollett with the designer drug ecstasy. defendant smollett then stated he wanted to stage an attack where able would appear to batter him. >> reporter: the brothers, now cooperating with police. >> the brothers had on gloves during the staged attack where they punched him a little bit but as far as we can tell the scratches and bruises on his face was most likely self-inflicted. >> reporter: smollett's attorney says he enjoys the presumption of innocence. given these circumstances we intend to conduct a thorough investigation and to mount an aggressive defense. chicago's top cop worries about what this means for real victims and even still, he has concern for smollett.

set of "empire," he told people, i swear to god, i did not do this and it is mind boggling. >> it really is. as we get the reaction from people, there are folks who defended him initially, who are now walking back some of those defenses of him. democratic presidential candidate kamala harris who said she is sad, frustrated and disappointed. you also have president trump weighing in saying what about maga because that was the allegation made and he said what about maga and the tens of millions of people you insulted with your racist and dangerous comments? a lot of people sounding off on this one. now to politics. house democrats are filing a resolution aimed at blocking the national emergency declaration that president trump is using to shift billions of dollars to pay for a border wall. speaker nancy pelosi is urging democrats to back the measure arguing that the declaration violates the constitution and she is hoping enough republicans will also sign on for senate approval but the president is expected to veto the resolution. >> president trump now plans to leave about 200 peace keeping troops in syria even after he pulls out the rest of the u.s. forces. the president's decision to

rapidly withdrawal all 2000 troops from syria was criticized even by republicans but their pleas with this latest plan to keep the small group of peace keepers in the country to protect america's kurdish allies and stop isis from regrouping. the coast guard accused of plotting a domestic terror attack is in custody for now. a judge ordered him held without bail on drug and gun charges. prosecutors say his stock piling of weapons poses a very significant threat to the public including top democratic politicians and tv news anchors. his attorney claims the arsenal is modest, at best, and she says he is a loving husband and father. the judge gave prosecutors two weeks to file more serious charges or else he will be released on bail. the storm system responsible for the rare snowfall in the southwest is slowly moving east ward. for the second time this week, you see the images there, las vegas saw a fairly significant dusting. about a half an inch along the strip.

that forced the emergency landing of a boeing 737 in orlando. >> the southwest flight out of ft. lauderdale blew a tire on take off, but it comes amid a slew of maintenance concerns. here is david kerley. >> reporter: emergency vehicles immediately approaching the southwest 737 in orlando after the blown nose gear tire taking off from fort lauderdale. the airline says it was out of an abundance of caution. this as southwest has been forced to cancel hundreds of flights the past week and a half because of unavailability of aircraft. the airline calling it an operational emergency blaming the maintenance problems on labor issues saying a slow down started after it's last negotiating session with it's 2,400 mechanics. >> now that there's problems with the mechanics union, there seems to be fewer airplanes available on a daily basis. >> reporter: southwest mechanics have been negotiating with the airline for a new contract for the past six years. while the labor and maintenance issues are unrelated to the
