one day after the sudden death of public defender jeff adachi, we obtained the police report providing answers about what happened. he was just 59 years old. dan is here with more on what we learned from the police report. >> i spoke with san francisco city and county who are stunned and saddened by his death. he leaves a wife and daughter. this police report gives new details about what happened just last night. >> the police report obtained by the i team said a

said her name was katerina called 911 at 5:41 friday. the officers were called off and the medical examiner's office said they did not have reason to believe it was a crime scene, but the death was under investigation. officers deem that suspicious so they continued to the ground floor apartment and took these pictures and spoke with witnesses. one woman said she had known him for 10 years and he asked to use the apartment. that same woman said she received a call from katerina who sounded hysterical and said something was wrong with jeff. she said he complained of stomach pains and they took an uber back to the apartment and he became unresponsive and they called for help on his phone. they showed an unmade bed and alcohol and cannabis gummies and two sirirchlgs that may have been left by paramedics.

a spokes person said the ocme is the lead agency in the death investigation, sfpd is assisting. this is a death case with cause to be determined. no signs of foul play. paramedics arrived 10 minutes after the 911 call. they took him to california pacific where the doctors pronounced him dead. one curious picture from the file, a receipt in spanish in columbia purchased this past wednesday. no real word whether this means anything at all. clearly, eric, more answers to come. >> thank you very much for digging into that. the death of jeff adachi surprised many where investigators were sent. liz is in north beach with reaction. luz? >> reporter: there are two police officers outside the unit where is jeff was found

unresponsive. neighbors tell us they are shocked. >> i'm really shocked to learn that they found jeff's body there on that site. such a sad thing. >> neighbors are searching for answers. >> i came down and looked up the street and i saw the vehicles, but no people. >> several residents say they saw an ambulance and fire truck around 6:30 p.m. last night. >> when i came home, i saw one ambulance stopped there and i didn't see police cars. >> one man who lives a block away didn't see the emergency response and said adachi didn't frequent the area. >> i was sitting up on my couch dealing with the phone calls and texts and e-mails and had no idea. i didn't know until my wife just told me. >> you never saw him around here before? >> no. it's funny, not in the neighborhood.

tower with a live look over san francisco. sf city hall for the chinese new year's parade. temperature-wise, it was comfortable if you are out earlier this evening. numbers are pretty much mainly sitting in the 40s across the board. at 49 in the city and 46 in san jose and 48 in oakland. partly to mostly cloudy skies overhead that act as an insulator. the overnight lows fall three or four degrees from where we are now. over the next 12 hours, most spots are settling in the low if not mid 40s over the next 12 hours. future weather showing that cloud cover will continue to thicken as you go into sunday morning. into 10:00 or 11:00 tomorrow morning, a lot of cloud cover and future weather is trying to pinpoint a very isolated sprinkle in the north bay. if one pops up, you can consider

yourself lucky. the majority will remain dry for sunday. a lot of cloud cover tomorrow in the afternoon. temperatures again are close to where we should be for this time of year in late february. about 56 in fremont. 53 in san francisco. concord up to about 60. you don't need the rain gear, but that's a different story as we head into monday. the better chance that we will find light scattered showers dotting the bay area. level one light system as you head back to work and school. not high amounts of rainfall. less than a half of an inch. the highest totals will be found in the north bay. this is a low impact system for monday. things turn interesting tuesday to wednesday. we are tracking a storm off the coastline and it will tap into a lot of moisture and somewhere along the west coast. we have to key into where the

heaviest rain is going to fall. track one would keep the heaviest rain north of the bay area and that would be a lower impact storm for us, however a second track takes the heaviest rain right over the bay area. that would be a higher impact system and guidance is trending towards this. we will fine tune in terms of heavy rain and strongest winds. know that tuesday night into wednesday morning could be rather rainy across the region. we know for sure there will be fresh powder in the sierra. a stormwatch is in effect freetfnoagain.e feet in the highest peaks. that will add on to a healthy snowpack already. in the next seven days, the north bay chance for oscar sunday. monday light scattered showers

obtained the police report showing what happened. they tried to call off police from responding to the scene and they deemed it suspicious and rushed there anyway. a woman said he felt ill at dinner and became unresponsive at an apartment on telegraph place. they are assisting the office on a death investigation and the cause of death is yet to be determined, but there are no signs of foul play. elected official s set to take part in the parade that celebrates the year of the pig. uncovering the body of a woman in a collapse at fort funston. the body of the missing woman may have been removed by the current. the victim was in her 20s and had been walking a dog with a

friend when the land gave way. the friend and the dog survived. >> a judge set bond for r. kelly at $1 million. he is accused of sexually abu abusing four females between 1998 and 2010. he remained silent in a court hearing in chicago today. his real name is robert kelly. one of his alleged victims said she is relieved the 52-year-old has been arrested. >> we finally got an indictment after two decades of him getting away with the allegations. it was a joyous moment for me. >> r. kelly's attorney said one of the charges involves the victim from an earlier case. he believes double jeopardy should bar the first case and said the accusers are lying. >> a large jet flying cargo for amazon prime's aircraft crashed on the way to bush intercontinental airport.

it was 30 miles away when it crashed into trinity bay. video from over the scene shows a wide debris field. first responders reported bedsheets and other items consistent with cargo shipments floating in the water. the freighter originated in miami. >> i was told there were probably three personnel that were flying and operating the plane. obviously that ntsb will confirm that. knowing what i saw, idon't think anybody could survive it. >> the ntsb and faa will begin the work to determine what caused the jet to crash. officials in florida say a flight instructor was killed when his plane crashed into a home in winter haven. it did a nose dive into a house and trapped a girl in her bedroom.

they are preparing for the strike to go to income week and ordered ponchos so the teachers can ticket in the rain. >> pg&e will not be awarding $130 million in bonuses because of the bankruptcy filing. the ceo delivered that news in an e-mail according to the "san francisco chronicle." the president of the union representing 3700 company workers said it's unfair to punish workers who had nothing to do with the wildfires. >> firefighters rescued them from a violent car crash overnight. the two victims were pinned against a tree near lake cunningham road and took an hour for 40 firefighters to free the victims from inside the mangled car. both have significant injuries. they are investigating whether speed and or alcohol were factors. >> a tree limb came crashing down this morning.

a big limb shattered the truck's front windshield. it happened between 26th and caesar chavez and brought down electrical lines. the church line was blocked by a response from other firefighters. after clearing the tree, firefighters were able to drive them back to the firehouse. church street is back open and service has been restored. >> a davis man is hours into a days long run to honor a police officer killed in the line of duty. this ultra runner will cover 224 miles in 72 hours with a 30-minute break eafr 12 hours for a shower, fresh clothes and food. sleeping is not part of the plan. he was inspired after seeing billboards for natalie corona who was gunned down in downtown davis. it featured her badge. >> for said badge 224.

abc 7 news was at the dolby theater in hollywood showing us the last minute preparations on the red carpet and there will be big changes as well. for the first time in three decades, there will be no host. they are aiming to announce winners in all 24 categories in three hours. there are a few predicted shoe ins, but best picture is too close to call. all of these movies have won an award that looks like best picture. they have every bit of a chance. >> the winners will have just 90 seconds to get to the stage and finish acceptance speeches. tomorrow's coverage starts at 1:30 on the red carpet and the opening ceremony at 3:30. the awards are at 5:00 and the post awards shows are about 8:00
