"green book" took home the oscar for best picture. and it was olivia colman, not glenn close who won best actress. we'll have live report from hollywood in just a moment. but first, right now, we're following weather affecting much of the country. >> the south cleans up from a tornado outbreak. this morning, damaging winds whirling across the great lakeses to the east coast. from washington, d.c., to chicago, where 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts toppled this gas station roof. in upstate new york, this traffic signal almost hit a car. after strong winds blew it down. >> this is very dangerous winds. >> reporter: on the campus of the university of buffalo, the bookstore's roof is ripped off. and in hamburg, new york, evacuations are under way as tons of ice on lake erei gets pushing right up to the beach. >> oh, my goodness, there is. >> reporter: it follows a weekend of severe weather in the south. in mississippi, 1 of at least 5

reported tornadoes turned deadly when a woman was unable to escape a building that collapsed. the storms ripped trees out of the ground and left miles of destroyed houses and businesses littering the streets. >> if it weren't for god, i wouldn't be here today. >> reporter: this drone video shows severe flooding near nashville. where it's been the wettest february on record. this landslide blocking interstate 24, now closed for at the least a week. massive sinkhole in west tennessee swallowed this car. in the midwest and plains, snow causing problems. in wisconsin, a deadly 131-vehicle pileup. and blizzard conditions causing spinouts and stalls in kansas. just incredible images there. we'll have your monday morning forecast in less than five minutes. now we turn to the oscars. it was a night full of surprises, especially in the best picture and best actress categories. but check this out. it was lady gaga and bradley cooper who stole theho abc's danya bacchus is in hollywood with the highlights and headlines. what a show.

we turn now to washington where president trump leaves for vietnam today for a second summit with kim jong-un. the president saying he has a, quote, special feeling about the summit. overnight, we learned more about the expectations and the history that could be made. abc's mona kosar abdi has the latest from washington. good morning, mona. >> reporter: good morning, kenneth. president trump has been touting his relationship with kim jong-un leading up to this summit, even saying that the country could be a great economic power if it just gave up its nuclear weapons. the stakes are high but expectations low ahead of president trump's meeting with north korean leader kim jong-un. >> we're going to have -- i think a very interesting 2 1/2 days in vietnam. >> reporter: this historic summit, the second in less than a year between the two leaders, which is once again expected to center around north korea giving up its nuclear weapons and peace

>> i think it's going to lead to something very good. and maybe not. >> reporter: ahead of the second summit, president trump striking a more realistic tone, tweeting that the two leaders, quote, expect a continuation of progress. then simply adding the word denuclearization with a question mark. >> as long as there's no testing, we're happy. >> reporter: u.s. intelligence officials have said they believe it's unlikely that north korea would give up its weapons entirely. >> they view nuclear weapons as critical to regime survival. >> reporter: yet bill richardson says without steps to denuclearization, this meeting means nothing. >> i don't believe it would be a successful summit unless you had some kind of commitment on north kia's part on denuclearization, dismantling, inspections. >> reporter: senate minority leader chuck schumer also calling for a plan. tweeting @trump --
