now at 5:00, get ready for rain the next few days. rain on the radar and meteorologist mike nicco is tracking our storm. you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. here's mike nicco. >> too much of a good thing coming our way. too much rain. it's very light right now. it's along the coast from bodega bay, on highway 1 near guerneville towards santa rosa. this is the area that gets wet first. once it starts, it's not going to stop in the north bay. already seeing a breeze developing from our east bay hills camera. our best chance of rain and wind through 7:00 will be in the north bay. now, start heading into the heart of the bay by noon. it will become windy at 4:00.

it will get down to the south bay by 7:00. starting off in the 40s to near 50. low to mid-50s at 7:00. the storm is a 2. moderate. i'll tell you what that means coming up next. here's alexis. >> good morning, mike. overall, we're still enjoying a quiet commute. no incidents to worry b hoping to keep it that way for a bit longer. walnut creek southbound 680 north of 24. we have roadwork wrapping up just south of the 24 split near olympic boulevard. the drive times looking typical, too. no significant issues. in fact, in the green here. highway 4 into the maze, 18 minutes. about 10 across the bay bridge. the toll plaza is starting to get busier. southbound 101 san francisco to sfo still looks great at nine minutes. thank you, alexis. for the third day, oakland teachers hit the picket lines this morning. >> negotiations between the

district and the union broke down over the weekend. matt keller is covering that for us this morning. matt. >> reporter: reggie 3,000 oakland teachers are expected to strike today. that's starting at 6:30 this morning. this comes after both sides met yesterday and didn't reach an agreement. the talks lasted only an hour. they're asking for a 12% raise, more nurses, more counselors and smaller dlclass sizes. >> they offered a 8.5% raise over a four-year time period. state opportunity tony thurmond is expected to join the discussions today and meet with both sides. of course, it's going to be starting at 12:30 at oscar grant plaza downtown. matt keller, abc 7 news. teachers in a contra costa school district are planning to hold an informational picket today. teachers in the mt. diablo unified district in concord are

not making fair wages and they have to pay for part of their medical benefits. they're trying to negotiate with the district there. teachers will picket before tonight's school board meeting at 6:00. we are getting a clearer idea of the fear and confusion that raced through paradise at the deadliest and most destructive fire in california history spread through there. >> cal fire released hundreds of hours of 911 calls from the camp fire. we should warn you that some audio may be distressing. >> leave the dogs inside, leave them water and food and go. ma'am, do you understand me? >> yes. >> you cannot get out? >> no, there's no way. >> okay. sir, if there's anyway you can evacuate safely, please do so. i will advise them of your location as quickly as possible. but i don't know how quickly they'll be able to get to you. i will let them know, okay? >> okay. thank you. >> 86 people died in the wildfire in november.

the camp fire destroyed nearly 14,000 homes in and around paradise. a bay area tv news crew was robbed and their security guard shot during a robbery in oakland. the kpix news crew was robbed at gunpoint just before 5:00 last night near the public library. this is video here from the scene. the reporter and photographer told officers a vehicle drove up and two people got out demanding they give up their equipment. the suspects and the guard both fired shots. the suspects took off with the news camera. the security guard there was hit but is expected to be okay. one suspect was arrested after a brief police cheese. police are investigating whether a man who showed up with a wound is connected to the case. >> police are investigating a homicide in danville. they were called to an industrial park on miss tore i can't way. they found the body of a man

with multiple gunshot wounds. his identity is not released until family is contacted. anybody with information is asked to call police. happening today, the first federal trial involving monsanto and its weed killer roundup is set to begin in san francisco. edwin hard man's lawyers say he developed nonhodgkin's lymphoma after decades of using it on his property. monsanto denies it causes cancer. vallejo resident won pay $289 million verdict against monsanto. a judge later reduced the award to $78 million. and monsanto is appealing the verdict. san francisco's transbay transit center remains closed because of cracks in two beams. there's a report there could be another problem. according to the chronicle, the underground portion of it may not be big enough for projected cal trans service. it was billed as part of a plan to bring cal tran and high-speed

rail into the terminal. they may need to run 12 to 16 trains per hour. it says an initial analysis only ten trains can be accommodated at the center. a 2 on impact scale means light to moderate rain. a flood risk across the north bay and the rest of us heading into the overnight hours. winds picking up out of the south at 30 to 45 miles per hour. if you have to be outside today, the morning hours are going to be the driest, especially outside of the north bay. it will become wet and windy, whether you're at our beaches or on the bay or exercising or driving across our east-west bridges. the richmond-san rafael bridge, the san mateo bridge, the dumbarton bridge. you'll get hit with the cross wind that could gust at 45 to 50 miles per hour during the afternoon and into the evening commute. for the east bay valleys, you're dry up until scattered showers develop around noon and then you

can see it becomes wet and windy during the evening -- afternoon and evening hours. for the peninsula, dry until 10:00 or 11:00. scattered showers at noon. steadier rain from 2:00 to 8:00. and for the east bay shoreline, we've got dry weather through 10:00. scatter shower will develop at noon and rain becomes steady from 2:00 to 8:00. that means the evening commute for most of us will be wet and windy. let's talk about the morning commute. alexs? >> the biggest issue on the roads is a van out of gas on the shoulder in the tri-valley. so very quiet start here today. westbound 580 before you get to livermore avenue. we have the center divide blocked. emergency crews are helping those guys out. not a big deal. as you can see, no backup approaching that. we have a backup out of the central valley down to about 11 miles an hour on westbound 205. 16 miles an hour once you make it to 580. pretty busy right here for the bay bridge toll plaza. i did double-check. we don't have the metering

york. happening today, 58 former senior national security officials are set to issue a statement saying ctual basis for president trump's national emergency proclamation to build a border wall. it includes madeline albright. it's intended to support lawsuits challenging the proclamation. the house is expected to vote on a resolution to block that declaration. new developments about the amazon prime cargo plane crash in houston. amazon confirms the three people on board died. the flight was 30 miles away from it destination when it plunged into a bay in chambers county saturday afternoon. first responders reported seeing bed sheets and clothes floating in the water much the plane was headed to houston from miami. investigators say a distress call was not made. the cause of the crash, of course, under investigation. happier news now. one of the gowns head to toe sequin and makeup fit for the silver screen.

you're staying inside and you didn't get to watch out. we're not going to be heading outside a lot with the rain coming in. here we are at san jose. 280 at 17. it's dry. you'll remain dry the better part of the day while the rest of us deal with rain. you're getting the rain shadow. moderate to heavy rain tonight. thursday and friday are trending as the only dry days so far. the atmospheric river up to the north right now. there's a cold front pushing it south. light rain in the north bay becoming moderate by noon. starting to push out of the north bay at noon and into the heart of the the bay. notice it never makes it into the south bay. even during the evening hours other than scattered showers. while the rest of us are dealing with moderate to heavy rain. the yellows an the oranges. you may see red tonight. it never stops in the north bay. then tomorrow's morning commute. by then, we'll have several inches of rain and still having moderate to heavy rain.

that one saturated the soil enough that any light to moderate rain will increase the flood risk, especially across the north bay. the winds will pick up around 30 to 45 miles per hour. for today, the weaker part of it. it's well north of us. light rain in the north bay right now. for the most part, it is quiet. that is going to change quickly today. especially by noon when the rain heads south. the winds will pick up also and everybody will be getting light to moderate if not heavy pockets of rain by 7:00. except for the south bay, it will be light rain. you'll get your heaviest rain tomorrow. i'll talk about that coming up more in the next half hour. here's alexis. >> enjoy the quiet traffic while it lasts. the rest of the week we'll have tough commutes. today, though, we're not. we're nice and light this morning. we remain incident-free. nothing major to talk about. san jose, 280 and 17, the volumes increasing on the northbound side of the roadway.

i'm glad it was a success. reggie and jessica, full disclosure, it's a little hard to hear you because so much is going on outside the dolby theater. we have crews here working around the clock to take down everything, including the red carpet you see right there. trying to erase all of the remnants of what happened last night. of course, the 91st oscars. pretty hard to believe, it's been 13 hours since we first saw our local winners on the big stage. now from the bay area, mahershala ali of oakland won a second oscar for best supporting actor in green book. his first one was for moonlight two years ago. ali beat out daly city born sam rockwell who was up in his role in vice. he spoke after his big win. >> did you ever imagine in 2019 you'd be sitting with us backstage with an oscar again? >> no. i didn't. i wasn't even thinking about it. i was really trying to crack this character and get under don

early in the morning and spent the day on the red carpet and had to get up early for us. that's on abc7news.com. new details, we're going to switch gears on the jussie smollett investigation. an abc news obtained a check the actor wrote to one of the the brothers who chicago police helped stage the attack on him. the memo line of the $3500 check reads five-week nutrition/workout program and it says don't go. that is the music video he hired the brothers to train him for. the chicago police superintendent said the check was to carry out the hoax attack. eddie johnson said smollett has the presumption of innocence until he has his day in court. investigators are confident. >> there's still a lot of physical evidence, video evidence and testimony that just simply doesn't support his version of what happened. >> smollett turned himself in to police and pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance. you can see more of the interview at 7:00 a.m. on gma

after abc 7 mornings. let's talk about your other bigg. we're on storm watch. we have that rain coming in. the north bay, really looking at the sky, we had the mudslide earlier this month in sausalito. >> that's where folks are getting ready for another rough week. amy hollyfield is there. >> reporter: hi, guys. time to get ready for the rain. we're getting light rain now in sausalito. the city wants everyone to know they have a sandbag station available for anyone who wants to get preparations in place nor this storm. the city of sausalito also wants you to know that crews are keeping a close eye on the hillside where the mudslide happened just over a week ago. city officials are working with cal trans and the national park service to monitor the hillside. watching the storm drain system and water runoff in the area. they're also asking residents to pitch in this week. if you see a clogged drain and no workers in the area, they're asking that you remove the

leaves to keep the area from flooding. they also say it's a good idea to have a go bag in case you have to make a quick evacuation. pack that up if you have free time. check your property also for areas that could flood. they want you to know that this sandbag station will be available. it opens up at 7:00 a.m. reporting live in sausalito. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. here's a look at what i'm putting together for your commute planner. let me update this real quick so you can see. everything is going to be poor, especially in the afternoon and evening hours as we'll have wet weather everywhere, including the south bay. blustery and choppy on the bay. sideways rain is going to be coming down if you're going to be waiting for mass transit. so make sure you get as much as you can covered. our flood watch for the north bay begins at noon and through 4:00 thursday morning. it's wednesday into thursday i'm really concerned with the rivers, the napa and the russian

rivers rising and the flooding. so we've got a day or two to wath that. but no wednesday and thursday. things could change rapidly with it overflowing banks. more immediate concern. flash flood watch. it's going to flood streams, creeks, roads, our parking lots. as for the rest of the bay, it's shorter duration. it starts at 4:00 today through 4:00 wednesday. a little bit shorter today. exactly. here's a look at the north bay. some scattered rain today. 10:00 to 8:00. can't get away from it. san francisco, we're pretty dry through 10:00. after that, it becomes rainy and windy the rest of the day. for the south bay, we are going to be basically dry through at least noon with scattered showers through the evening hours. again, you're going to receive the lightest amount of rain while rest of us have a sloppy evening commute. let me bring in alexis and find out how monday morning is starting. >> crickets. it's hard to believe.

it's going to be nice. when i get time. i'm going to be watching live doppler 7 like a hawk for the next three days at least and this weekend. we have five of seven days in the forecast full of wet weather. it starts today quietly. alexis has told us the roads have been quiet and dry. but during the evening commute, most of us will be wet. this is walnut creek where we're looking south on 680. atmospheric river, flooding rain, damaging winds, especially in the north bay. more rain this weekend. let's jump in. you can see it's getting pummeled. it being the northern part of the our state. the northwest corner, if you will. all this will slide south. so far, i haven't seen any reports of rain from our reporting stations in the north bay. there is spotty sprinkles through 7:00. then it becomes steady. light to moderate as we head towards lunch. it's on the cusp of moving into of the heart of the bay, which it does in the afternoon and evening hours.
