you can see the cutoff from the north and the south. we want the get to meteorologist sandhya patel. boy, it's raining everywhere right now. >> it is going to get even worse as we head towards tomorrow, jessica and dan. right now let's take a look at live doppler 7. and you can see the intensity of the rain is focused in the north bay. as we get you on to street level radar, heading into south santa rosa, gryton, it's coming down hard. sonoma towards old sonoma road, napa, fourth avenue also seeing the downpours. in the east bay, grizzly peak boulevard, orinda, camino pablo, we're going track this batch of moderate to heavy rain. into concord at 5:12. lighter around san francisco, as you will see. but that is going change. this is an atmospheric river that is aimed for northern and central california. so over the next couple of day, level 3 storm for tonight, tomorrow. moderate to heavy rain. localized flooding. wind gusts to 50. and the hour-by-hour timeline will show you where that rain is

focused. mainly northern and central portion of our viewing area. it will become a level 4 for the north bay only. here is drew tuma with more on the watches and warning. >> yeah, sandhya, this storm is really going to sit over us for the next 36 hours. so the risk of flooding is very high. especially in the north bay where you have a flood watch, this lasting until thursday morning. the threat in the north bay is river flooding. especially on the napa and russian river that could happen early wednesday morning. there is a flash flood watch for the rest of the bay area. heavy rainfall tomorrow into wednesday morning will likely lead to flooding on our roads. also rapid rises on our small streams and creek. keep an eye on the water level. it could rise really quickly overnight and into tomorrow. a wind advisory also in effect in our hills. this lasting until wednesday morning. you can see wind gusts close to 50 miles an hour. meteorologist sandhya patel comes back, a much closer look at this atmospheric river, what to expect tomorrow and the full accuweather forecast in a few minutes, guys.

>> okay, drew. thank you. >> good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm jessica castro. thank you for joining us. the rain a concern across the bay area, and especially in sausalito where part of a hillside came down, destroyed two houses on valentine's day. >> yeah, it was pretty bad. a woman who was sleeping in one of the homes made it out alive, thank goodness. abc news reporter wayne freedman has been monitoring the story there, as has the city. wayne? >> dan, they've been working on that hillside. well confirmed today that the national park service has been paying for work on the hillside above, the removal of trees and the installation of a tarp. is what they're trying the avoid. this is way downstream. this is the remnants of the slide on february 14th. nobody wants any more rain, especially with more rain coming. raindrops, a muddy slope, past history. not a good combination in sausalito this weekend. >> i think we're all worried. >> that would be an

understatement from abbott chambers about the slide zone with no room to move and nowhere to go except downhill into more trouble. >> this is much bigger than anybody realizes or expected. it just is. >> susan gordon, the face of this disaster. she had been sleeping in the duplex that used to be here when the mudslide took it down on valentine's day morning. that susan survived a miracle, and now? >> my purpose in life right now is protecting this town and protecting that hillside. >> do you think it's that serious a matter right now? >> i think it's that. so it's. >> susan watched this morning as the national park service began putting tarps up above and trimming trees on the slope. >> there was three trees, really dangerous they uprooted. and with the new storm coming, they're afraid they're going to roll down the hill. >> in short, this is storm prep with no holding back. sausalito plans to watch this

hillside closely and wants residents to do the same. it's all part of trying to stay ahead of another muddy disaster on a hillside that has already renewed a bad reputation. >> i think everyone's concerned. from what i understand, from what i hear from our public works folks, we really just don't know where andslides going to take place. >> so how concerned is sausalito? they'll be having a public meeting tomorrow night. another indication they haven't exactly told people to pack a bag yet, but at least one person who works for the city has done exactly that. in sausalito, wayne freedman, abc 7 news. >> wayne, thank you. meanwhile, the weather, the high tide have forced crews to stop searching for the woman missing in a landslide at fort funsto luz pena has the latest. >> for more than three hours on saturday more than 60 firefighters and bystanders shovelled and searched for the

woman buried under the landslide. it's monday and there is still no sign of her. >> i almost fell. i was trying to help another dog. >> friday's incident hit close to home there. >> are signs. it would be nice if they put some fence or some gates. i know how dogs are. they like to roam around and venture off. >> we spoke to a geologicalist who confirmed fort funston has a history. >> two to four times the average cliff erosion throughout the state. >> fort funston is a federal property as board of supervisors norm nan yee assured us he will contact federal authorities. >> you clearly mark the pathway on which people should be on. and if there is any way we could shore it up little bit so it doesn't slide as off as it does, we should be doing that. >> in regards to their recovery operations, they sent out a statement, the nps recovery team will assess the conditions of

the beach when current storms pass and hope to utilize long boom excavators. in san francisco, luz pena, abc 7 news. someone tossed a bottle, cracking the windshield of a san francisco fire truck on the way to rescue a kayaker. abc 7 news caught the aftermath near pier 28 this afternoon. look at this. you can see the cracks. the fire department says some of the glass wound up in the cab of the truck, but though one was hurt. investigators are looking for the person responsible. the kayaker managed to get out of the water safely. in the east bay, police in danville are investigating that town's first murder in three years. a respected businessman and long-time resident was gunned down in the parking lot of his office building on fostoria way. >> he was a great guy, a big

figure. >> barely 24 hours after her brother-in-law john moore was shot and killed behind his danville office, patty renetti told us he was a man who had no enemy, a family man and friend to all. >> john was loved by everybody. he did not have an enemy. everybody just loved him. and it's shown what the outpouring of sympathy and a tension that's being given to the family right now. >> the 76-year-old moore was shot multiple times behind the office building he owns sunday afternoon. this is a photo of the suspect, 51-year-old mark sippian. the man police are locking for in connection with moore's death. he was last seen driving a ford escape with illinois listens plates 108122. >> right now we don't believe there is anyone else in danger. >> danville police chief allen shields told us he knew more personally.

>> we've known john for several years. he is a great person that goes back many years in the community. and has served this community well and has lots of friends here in the community. >> john moore was retired, but he kept an office here at the building he owned. he was actually working in the back on a new rv, getting ready for a family vacation when he was shot. police confirmed they are looking at surveillance video from the cameras around where moore was working on the rv. he leaves behind his wife nancy and three grown children. >> he is going to be really missed by so many people, and we just loved him so much. >> in danville, laura anthony, abc 7 news. a man from sonoma county today became the first of thousands to go before a jury in a federal lawsuit against the manufacturer of roundup weed killer. as abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow claims the product gave him cancer. >> sonoma county man man, 70-year-old ed hardiman was diagnosed with non-hodgkins

lymphoma at 66 years old, according to his iran to who argues he developed cancer as a result of spraying roundup weed killer on his 56 acres of land. at issue is whether glyphosate con causes cancer. monsanto argues it does not cause cancer. they argue he had risk factors including hepatitis c, hepatitis b, his age, his weight, and his body mass index. >> we don't believe that any of those are causative risk factors. in other words, they didn't contribute to or cause his non-hodgkins lymphoma. >> bayer rights while we have great sympathy for mr. hardiman, the extensive body of scientific research supports the conclusion that roundup is not response form his illness. >> as long as the company continues to deny that roundup causes non-hodgkins lymphoma,

then nothing can be done. >> last year duane lee johnson won a $289 against bayer. the judge later reduced the award to $78 millions. bayer is appealing the district. the trial is expected to last a month. in san francisco, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. and speaking of roundup, a report says one of the main ingredients has been found in several popular beers and wines. the ingredient is glyphosate. u.s. pirg says it even turned up in some organ brands, but in all instances it showed up in trace amounts. all the levels were below the risk for beverages. we have posted the entire report, which contains a list of all the brands of beer and wine that were tested on our website, abc7news.com. stay here with us. it is hard enough to get to a bart train at rush hour. now imagine doing it with a wheelchair or maybe a walker. >> they say the biggest issue is just reliability.

the securities and exchange commission has asked a judge to hold tesla ceo elon musk in contempt because of a tweet he sent last week. bloomberg news says the tweet violated the settlement musk made with the s.e.c. which sued musk last year over another tweet that the sec misled investors. musk is supposed to get tesla approval before sending any tweets that are material to shareholders. after musk sent the tweet last week, a tesla lawyer helped him

draft a correction, and musk retweeted that correction several hours later. all this puts muss income new legal peril. tonight tesla shares plunged more than 5%. abc 7 news is committed to building a better bay area, and transit is one area that we're focused on improving, and it's why we spent a week this month talking about bart, which hundreds of thousands of people ride every single day. >> maybe you. we received a lot of e-mails with questions and some suggestions, many of them were from people with disabilities who use wheelchairs and walkers. elevators, escalators and priority seating makes a big difference to their experience, of course. >> martine specifically told us i can't count how many times i have tried to get on bart during commute with a walker. and when i do get on the train, you can't believe how many people sit in those handicapped seats, most of them don't care if i'm standing there with a walker. >> abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley took those concerns to bart. >> at 4:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon, i can't even get in the door with my walker.

it's so packed. nobody comes out to say here, take my seat, nothing. >> martine wrote to abc 7 news about her observations and frustrations as a ride were a disability. >> i'm very lucky. i can get on an escalate were my walker, but i see other people struggling all the time if they can't get in an elevator. >> bart says their elevators are in working order over 99% of the time. escalators work 93 to 97% of the time. >> yeah, no, i don't agree with that. i think that the elevators work maybe 50% of the time. i'll be generous. >> sarah birdwell and her two companions rely on bart to get to work in san francisco. she too complained of crowds. jazeera m. wrote i'm old and disabled, but often the cars are so crowded that i have to stand. >> i never want to hear anyone who is saying that they're old and they can't stand for long periods of time not being offered a seat. i mean, that's a courtesy

problem which is extremely difficult for bart to solve. >> do you think people are preoccupied with their cell phones and they're not paying attention to who gets on and off the train by them? >> glance up. see if someone needs your seat. and don't sit in one of the priority seats if it's not for you. >> bart says they're in the process of installing remote monitoring systems for their escalators and elevators. they say the moment one breaks down, it would ping maintenance to make response time quicker. in pleasant hill, i'm leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. >> last fall bart was able to quantify how many people with disabilities use its elevators. it was part of a study on the attendant pilot program. >> and last september bart found more than 46,000 people use the elevators at civic center and more than 32,000 at powell street. at civic center, more than 4600 were using a wheelchair, cane, or crutches compared to 2400 at powell. >> parents with strollers were

futures in order to get health care today. or spend down their assets to qualify for medi-cal. details of the plan should be released this week, but it will include in-home service, transportation, and help with social isolation. it is still a seller's market in san francisco and san jose. zillow has crunched the numbers and finds those two cities and the largest surrounding areas are the best for sellers in the nation. the median san francisco home value is close to a million dollars. and san jose it's over $1.2 million. it takes about two months to sell a home in those two areas. the most buyer friendly cities in the san francisco survey is oakley and hollister in the san jose study. does it feel like you're paying more at the pump? there is a reason for that. you are. analysts trilby lundburg says the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is up 10 cents the past few weeks to

$2.44. still, that's about 15 cents lower than what it was this time last year. the lowest, $2.03 in baton rouge, louisiana. the highest, $3.38 in, as always, san francisco. the rise in crude oil costs is to blame. >> why is that always expensive? >> always. >> it's not fair. >> it always feels like you're paying a lot at the pump. >> you're right, you're right. >> thanks, michael. we want the turn back to the weather forecast. serious weather here right now and more on the way. >> it looks like the north bay is in the crosshairs. >> that's right, dan and jessica that is where the worst of the storm is expected. let me show you live doppler 7 right now that is where the focus is at this hour, as we're seeing some downpours across the north bay. moderate to heavy rain right now. street level radar, sonoma avenue, sonoma heavier returns. head going fairfax by 5:31.

tonight get ready. in the east bay, orinda, walnut creek had moderate rain. it is pushing out of here. this is an atmospheric river, and that means a narrow band of high water vapor content is heading in our direction. the heaviest focus will be in the north bay where we are expecting some big problems. gusts to 29 right now in san francisco. sfo is reporting over four-hour delays on arriving flights due to the wind and the weather. so if you're picking somebody up, keep that in mind. gusts to 41 on mount diablo. winds are only going to increase. and our live look from our san rafael cam, shows how shaky the camera it is rough on the roadways and wet. so be careful out there. temperatures right now, 40s, 50s across the region. it's a level three storm through tomorrow for most of the bay area. moderate to heavy rain. localized flooding, damaging wind gusts so it's a strong level three unless you're in the north bay. 5:30 tonight, we are still seeing pockets of moderate to heavy rain from the north bay. the south bay, you're not seeing

anything. 9:00 p.m. it's still in the same general vicinity so, you might be wondering where is that storm. it will reach you. but it's going to take a few hours before it gets to your area. so be mindful of that. 4:00 a.m., tomorrow we are going to see some pockets of moderate to heavy rain. 5:00 a.m. commute time is going to be stormy. be prepared. 8:00 a.m., it is right across the central bay. 10:00 a.m. still widespread. and then as we head into the afternoon hours, still going to continue to see that moisture pushing through. here is a look at the rainfall totals. you can see how high those totals are going to be. close to 7 inches in calistoga. some of the wettest coastal ranges looking at 10 to 12 inches of rain by wednesday. santa cruz mountains 4 1/2 inches. for the rest of you, 1 to 4 inches. san jose, you will be in the rain shadow of the santa cruz mountains. and so of course because of that, not as impactful in your area. sate level 4, a major storm tomorrow for the north bay only. that is where the worst of the wind, the heaviest of the rain and the highest risk of flooding

is expected. the russian river at guerneville and the napa river at napa will likely see flooding. we will see streams and creeks going over the banks. debris flow, mud slides not out of the question. temperatures be in the 40s, 50s. stormy in the north bay. beginning to change in the south bay. as we head into the afternoon hours, 50s, 60s. windy and a stormy afternoon. and if you're heading to the mountains, right now chain controls on all roads except for 4. 3 to 5 feet solve snow. over the peaks, 10 feet or more that warning until 6:00 a.m. thursday. it's a level 3 storm, a strong storm for most of you tomorrow. level 4 for the north bay. becoming a level 2 wednesday. morning will be the worst. the afternoon just showers. lingering showers. level 1 for thursday morning. well dry out friday. and then it's a moderate strength storm for saturday, level 2. lingering showers, sunday level 1. nike nico will be here tomorrow

payments. nearly half the patients on hand said they experienced nightmare bills after being treated at zuckerberg san francisco general hospital. >> and after some blood tests, receiving iv and advice to take some tylenol if my stomach still hurts, i received a surprise bill of $9,045. >> i left the hospital and was told to follow up with my primary physician, which i did, and my symptoms improved. however, weeks later i received a bill for $16,089. >> and to be honest, i'm still kind of scared to bike in san francisco. not because i'm afraid of falling, but i'm afraid i'll end up at the er. >> assembly man chiu says this bill would prohibit hospitals from charging patients for emergency room costs beyond their normal deductible or copayment. san francisco is the first city in the country to clear all eligible pot convictions. george gascon announced today
