now at 4:00 the atmospheric river is slamming into the bay area bringing days of rain and a soggy morning commute. live doppler 7 is tracking wet weather and meteorologist mike nicco has the hour by hour forecast. good morning and thanks for joining us tuesday february 26. we're on early to bring you special coverage of this big story we have. we have live doppler 7 behind us tracking the rain and we can see a big cell going through san francisco, vallejo area. >> i've taught you well. >> yes. i can read cities on maps. of course we're talking about the northwest getting hit hard. >> already flooding there. i wanted to jump into the creeks flooding. we've got moderate to severe

flooding. severe flooding willow brook, sonoma creek, green valley creek, laguna desanta rosa, colgan creek. those of continue to rise. take a look. a big blob of moisture from hercules through richmond down to berkeley and oakland right the western side -- eastern side, across to mill valley. there's even more. look at that white slug of clouds. that's going to be heavy moisture that's going to increase the intensity of the rain as we head through the rest of today. i'll show you that coming up in the day planner forecast. first over to alexis. not fun this morning. >> you know what, i don't think it was as bad as two weeks ago but i wasn't driving in the north bay. keep that in mind. we serum have tough driving conditions this morning and i chmoan rafl outto get tougher

plenty of rain, advisories for self-golden, san mateo bridge. we're going to have standing water, road spray kicking up. you name it. all that fun stuff in there. flipping to traffic maps, san francisco, much of the north bay really getting hit right now. a quick check of a couple crashes, westbound 80 past cherry clen. i need to change the location of my icon. a three-car collision blocking middle lanes between vacaville and fairfield. taking to you oakland, we've got a couple problems on 880, northbound and southbound we have spinout crashes between broadway and 7th. it sounds like both of those are blocking one lane. we possibly have some injuries involved in one of those. as you can see we definitely have moderate to light rain pushing through the area. orange and yellow, more moderate. definitely giving yourself extra

time out the door. a lot more crashes to get to, too. i'll tell you about those in just a minute. thanks, alexis. as we're keeping a watch in the north bay, a level 4 storm for the area. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live conditions heading north on 101. good morning, amy. >> hi, good morning, matt. we are getting soaked driving through a downpour. let me show you conditions on northbound 101, novato. it's been raining on us since we left the east bay. in the east bay we were getting a downpour. seems like the storm is equaling drenching the area. but the concern is for the north bay. we have video last night taken in the santa rosa area. it was already getting pounded yesterday. the big question is how much more can this area take. so much saturation and this storm expected to bring several

more inches. 234r50ding is expected. we talked to residents bracing themselves and preparing for storms. >> definitely need to get my tires checked. if not, that could cause a huge accident. oh, my goodness. and all this wind. >> reporter: of course an area they will keep a close eye out for is the area that burned in the fire in 2015. officials have done a lot of work in those areas in the past year and a half to try and secure it, try and prevent any problems during storms like this. but this is a lot of rain. they will be watching it very carefully and hoping for no problems in that area. they are encouraging residents to be on high alert and report any issues they see right away. reporting live from 101, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. you may want to check your flight if you're headed to the airport today. here is a live look at sfo.

more than 170 flights were canceled and nearly 400 others were delayed because of the weather yesterday. it is also slow going in the sierra, for those headed east in the mountains. big-rigs turned around at applegate, tahoe to nevada, all traffic turned around at the state line. there are numerous spinouts at the summit. live doppler 7 is one of the most popular stories on the website and abc news appear. if you want to track rain click the bar on the top of the app. people stranded on an amtrak train in oregon. it left bound for los angeles with stops in the bay area but it's been stranded in oak ridge outside eugene since sunday after hitting a tree that fell onto the tracks. a passenger posted a picture on facebook. they still have power but dwindling food on board. a spokesperson said bad weather

and road closures have made it difficult to safely get passengers off the train. coming up at 5:00 a.m. we'll hear frommen wo of those passengers stranded on board the train. this morning the search for a gunman responsible for a shooting at san francisco university, between arlano and cardenas. a woman was shot but expected to survive. many students were rattled and went online to find out what's going on. the victim and suspect know each other. it's not clear if either is a stupidity. in the east bay, teachers say negotiations will resume this morning as their strike entered a fourth day. the school district is offering an 8 1/2% pay hike over four years, the teachers are seeking a 12% boost over three years. each day the strike goes on the district loses out on state funding.

>> a look at the storm impact scale, it is a 3, strong. we're going to have moderate to heavy rain all day with flood risk increasing and the winds are going to stay fast. originally yesterday the wind advisory was supposed to stop this morning but now it's been extended because the next slug of moisture is really going to put wind into our forecast. through sears point, reclamation road, skaggs, moderate ponding on the roadways, 37, richmond, san pablo, east richmond, rig ato boulevard, all with standing water. this is heading to the east and be in orinda. walnut creek by 4:20, concord 4:25, bay point 4:44, antioch 4:47. when it comes in, heavy rain, standing water you're going to be driving through with the windshield wipers turning as fast as you can. flood watch until 4:00 a.m. thursday. i'll have specific river

flooding forecast coming up. just know that overall you're under that. we still have the flash flood watch until 4:00 tomorrow. this is for small streams and creeks. so far no flooding being reported in this area, which is the rest of the bay outside the north bay. the wind advisory, there you go, it's been extended until 3:00 tomorrow morning for areas above 1,000 feet, gusts at 50 miles per hour. in fact, they will ramp up this afternoon and evening. that's the best time to have trees come down and power outages this afternoon and evening. a look at sutro tower bouncing around with wind. look at rain coming downside ways. south bay i know you're going, we haven't seen anything outside scattered showers. by 7:00 it finally comes knocking at your door and you'll feel the full brunt of this strong storm. i'll show you an hour by hour look at the rain intensity in the seven-day forecast coming up. here is alexis. >> good morning, mike. as you would imagine, plenty of crashes on the board, flooding,

just about everything you can imagine. take a look at live doppler 7, everyone getting wet. take you to the central valley, tough getting ufo of tracy westbound 580 before north flynn road. sounds like a small sedan and tanker truck involved in the collision. i believe the small sedan spunt out and went across lanes. all lanes briefly blocked now down to far left lane. you're heavy past the 205 street. northbound 880 before high street, five to six vehicles involved in this one and the two left lanes in that crash, moderate rains in the oakland area. a quick look outside. here is the bay bridge toll plaza. check out the road sprayic canning up behind the vehicles. once you make it onto the span, a high wind advisory in effect. blowing around a bit on the bridge. both hands on the wheel, doesn't matter if you're in a high profile vehicle or not. we'll take a look at drive times

all right. let's take a look at live doppler 7 and go in the marin valley on highway 1, strong cell moving to places like san rafael and also mill valley. let's put a storm track on this and see about 4:17. in about five minutes it will be raining heaven le at san rafael, 4:30 san pablo, hercules 4:48, vallejo 4:48. i promised you i'd take a look at the river forecast there. you go. de los major flooding in the russian river when it crests tomorrow evening at 7:00, right now at 18.6. it is going to rise rapidly the

next 24 to 36 hours. napa river at napa, flood stages 25 feet. it will be 25.8' tomorrow morning at 5:00 with moderate flooding just like we had during the atmospheric event two weeks ago. expect the same kind of flooding. >> thank you, mike. right now president trump is on "air force one" headed to vietnam. that's where he'll take part in a high-stakes meeting with north korean leader kim jong-un. >> the discusion is expected to focus on peace and getting north korea to give up their nuclear weapons. mona is live in washington. r g. president trump warned the arsenal posed such a threat rai nation. but he's willing to give leeway. eyes will be set on his

summit between president trump and north korean leader kim jong-un. this meeting marking the second in less than a year, this time taking place in hanoi, vietnam, where the two adversaries will try to reach a mutual agreement. >> i think we'll have a very tremendous summit. >> north korea's kim made the 3,000 mile journey by train greeted by vietnamese officials and a slew of cameras upon his arrival. the 2018 singapore summit marked the first time a sitting u.s. president met with north korea's leader but failed to have concrete results towards denuclearization, a topic that will yet again be the focus of discussions. this time president trump downplaying the expected outcome. >> i'm not in a rush. i don't want to rush anybody. i don't want testing. as long as there's no testing we're happy. now, top democrats criticizes the summit saying it granted legitimacy and demanding this

7. it looks pretty quiet around doppler 7 itself. what i w to do is zoom out and show you where hot spots are. can see around santa rosa we've got moderate rain on 101, jennings avenue. we'll zoom out and head down. marin heading to 101. it's moving right across sir francis drake boulevard. it's going to head to fairfax, lucas valley, smith valley road where 37 and 101 come together. then i want to take you to the south bay where it's finally raining in some parts, especially santa cruz, saratoga, campbell, cupertino, sunnyvale. expect that to continue as we head through the afternoon and evening hours. yeah, you'll have to wait that long to get your fair share of rain. here is the big picture. you can see the atmospheric river acceptinging into th heart of the bay, north bay,

that doesn't mean you're out of it in the north bay you'll have plenty of wet weather. future forecast for 7:00 this north bay.llows and oraes also notice what's lurking off coast, a huge wall that's going to start moving in at 9:00 from about the san mateo bridge northward all the way through noon and then as we get towards 3:30, 4:00, another push of moderate to heavy rain on a widespread scale is going to start moving into the south bay. there you go. you finally get it during the evening and overnight hours and it just keeps going all the way up until 11:30. that's for today. reset the rainfall and this is how much we're going to get today starting at 4:00 this morning. you can see by the end of the commute already another half inch in the north bay. the south bay nothing. by the end of the evening commute, everybody is finally wet including south bay up to a tenth of an inch. look at this, pushing 2 to 3"

again. that's why the flooding concern will continue into tomorrow even though we'll start to see rain taper a little bit as we go from 3 today to 2 tomorrow to a chance of morning showers on thursday. completely dry friday and monday. the rain is starting to look less likely on saturday and sunday. both of those storms down to an. tough driving conditions this morning. we've got plenty of issues to get to. i want to show you our camera in the north bay, san rafael along 101. we've got a lot of water on the camera lens, a lot of water on the road. a moment ago this was bumping around in the wind. not a lot of vehicles but we certainly have plenty of crashes on the board. i want to take you up to vacaville area, vacaville and westville, westbound 80 past cherry glen. the back-up may be thinning out for a moment. we have a mild delay approaching a crash involving a tanker truck and a sedan. that was blocking one lane. i'll keep an eye on that. we certainly did have a back-up

a moment ago so curious that is clear. westbound highway 4 past alhambra in the martinez, a rollover crash, blocking left lane, emergency crews on the way to the scene. a collision on westbound 580 right around north flynn road. that is blocking one lane. tracy to dublin, one hour, 11 minutes this early in the morning. southbound 680 dublin to mission boulevard in the green at 16, same thing 101 to cupertino, 16 minutes. thank you, alexis. san jose's oldest restaurant may have closed for good. >> wings opened in 1925. the family that ran the restaurant did not give advanced notice of sunday's closure. they wanted to avoid the crowds that overwhelmed them back in 2017. that is when the restaurant closed briefly for signing a new lease. renovations could cost up to $600,000. the building owner says he does not have anyone willing to pay that price. >> tsa is adding more airlines to its precheck airlines, air

rainfall amounts, another half inch to an inch is possible tomorrow. alexis. >> taking a look at the roads this morning, not going to be an easy commute. here is a live look at golden gate bridge. obviously not a lot of traffic this early hour. trucks have been through. the north bay one of the soggiest and windiest areas. we have a high wind advisory in effect for golden gate bridge. another bridge if you're trying to leave san francisco eastbound 80 before harrison street getting onto the bridge, solo vehicle crash sounds like just the shoulder is blocked. >> thank you, alexis. a sprawling wood side estate is about to hit the market and it is expected to shatter the bay area record price for a home sale. sky7 flew over green gables it's called. the property dates back to the early 1900s. get this, it has seven homes and three pools stretched out over more than 70 acres. the previous record is $117 million for a nearby mansion in woodside. real estate brokers expect this one, green gables, to

we should stay at work and pull doubles. >> you volunteered, mike. >> i do it every day, ma every a here is a strong scale, risk is high, winds will gust up to 50 miles an hour. we knew today would be the worst day. we're looking at places like oak and piedmont and campus drive where 580 and 13 come together. that's where we have ponding developing. that's going to head over moraga, alamo 4:41 and clayton at 4:55. 680 is going to become quite slippery if it's not already with standing water. you can see all along san francisco, balboa towards richmond, fulton street, even mission street some pockets of moderate rain there. this really has me concerned. moderate rain falling on that hillside that let go in sausalito. you can see near south street moderate rain
