>> the big dog is back, he was trending overnight. he received some really great news recently. we cannot wait to talk to him about that. >> definitely look forward to that. but first, we're going to begin with the race to rescue those 183 people trapped on an amtrak train, they've been stranded in oregon since sunday trapped by snow and falling trees and will carr will start us off with the latest. good morning, will. >> reporter: good morning, michael. so much snow has been pounding that area. the train is cut off from help. and now all those passengers are running out of food. overnight anxiety and n. >> how are we doing on food, man? >> nothing. >> reporter: surrounded by whiteout conditions, some have been on board for more than 50 hours after the train hit a tree that fell on the tracks. with the clock ticking, food is running out.

>> as of tonight, that was the last meal that was available. >> reporter: they're having to ration supplies. situation so dire, passengers have been forced to create makeshift diapers for mothers with young children. >> there's been intercoms asking about diapers, if anybody has extra diapers and formula and -- but we don't have those supplies on the train so we're making do with what we have. >> reporter: the train was traveling from seattle to los angeles. it came to a screeching halt in oakridge, oregon, a rural area covered by feet of snow and fallen trees. >> nobody could really get to us due to weather. >> reporter: amtrak telling abc news we are actively working with union pacific to clear the right of way and get passengers off the train. they say they were kept on the train because power was out in the city, adding with only two mall hotels in town, they don't want to separate passengers. >> they have m&ms, beer and

water. that's down from what they had before which was sandwiches, hot dogs, liquor, soda. >> reporter: most stuck on board are telling loved ones they're okay. but with the rescue passing the 30-hour mark and resources running low, passengers are desperate to be rescued soon. one mother tells us her biggest frustration is not knowing when her family will get help. they can't get off the train to get fresh air because there's so much snow around the train. they do have power. and amtrak hopes to get everybody off that train in the coming hours, robin? >> hopefully that will happen. overseas to vietnam where president trump's high-stakes summit with north korean leader kim jong-un will take place. kim arrived in vietnam hours ago. president trump touching down later this morning. america's demand that north korea denuclearize at the center of it all. our chief white house correspondent jon karl is there in hanoi with the latest. good morning, jon. >> reporter: good morning, robin.

the president arrives here later this morning for his second face-to-face meeting with kim jong-un and he is uncharacteristically downplaying expectations. it was an armored train that brought north korean dictator kim jong-un to vietnam. a two-day journey via rail because north korea's old and battered aircraft are just not up for the nearly 3,000-mile trip. kim was all smiles at his red carpet welcome, making his way through the crowd before taking off in his motorcade with a wave, surrounded by his bodyguards. president trump is due to arrive in hanoi shortly. with mounting political and legal challenges back home, he's looking for a big moment on the world stage. >> we have a special feeling and i think it's going to lead to something very good and maybe not. i think ultimately it will but maybe not. >> reporter: trump's message to kim -- north korea, it's economy crushed by sanctions can become an economic powerhouse if you give up your nuclear weapons. >> i think it can be really one of the great -- one of the great financial and economic countries

anywhere in the world. so i tell him that. but i said, you can't do that if you keep -- if you do knew leer. if you do nuclear, that will never happen. >> reporter: president trump is counting on his personal relationship to get the ultimate deal with him. >> we go back and forth and then we fell in love, okay? no, really. he wrote me beautiful letters. and they're great letters. we fell in love. >> reporter: but the president's own top intelligence advisers have repeatedly said north korea is unlikely to give up their nukes. >> the regime is committed to developing a long-range nuclear-armed missile that would pose a direct threat to the united states. >> reporter: while the president has great faith his personal relationship with kim jong-un will convince him to do what the intelligence committee says that he won't do, which is give up his nuclear weapons, he now says he is in no rush to make that happen. the president said, quote,

as long as there is no testing i am happy. >> his summit just half of a dramatic split-screen moment. as he sits down to dinner with kim jong-un wednesday, his former fixer, michael cohen, will be center stage in washington. three days of congressional testimony kick off today. our senior congressional correspondent mary bruce is tracking it all. in that testimony he is expected to take us behind the scenes with donald trump and calls it a history of lying, racism, and cheating. >> reporter: michael cohen is going to pull back the curtain on president trump, details of personal anecdotes on how the president he says lied and cheated throughout his career. he's expected to detail the president's finances including what he says are ways the president inflated and deflated at worst to his own benefit.

and sources tell us that michael cohen plans to accuse the president of criminal conduct while in office. >> while in office. they're going to present evidence, at least one document which they say the president broke the law while in office. the hush payments. >> reporter: that's right. michael cohen implicated them in a federal crime when he told them of the hush money payments made. the president has said that he denies these alleged affairs and didn't direct cohen to pay them but now cohen will is a public stage in which to tell his side. >> the prosecutors say that's a matter of fact. meantime, the house voting today to reject the president's emergency declaration on the border wall. we know it's going to pass the house. what happens in the senate? >> reporter: this isn't just democrats that he is laying the. you also have republicans signally that they are on board and if this is able to pass through the house and senate, then it could set up the president to make his first ever veto. >> mary bruce, thank you very

to the state of oregon, that's where you're going to see mudslide possibilities and up to about five feet or more in the si area. >> such a mess. now to breaking new developments in the catholic church sex abuse scandal. the highest ranking to face charges, cardinal george pell now convicted of assault. senior foreign correspondent ian pannell has the latest. good morning, ian. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, robin. he was the top financial adviser to pope francis himself and the vatican's economy minister. now, 77-year-old cardinal george pell has been found guilty on five charges by an australian jury. the verdict only made public this morning was based on offenses committed against two choir boys more than years ago. this is yet another major blow to the catholic church, which is unable to shake allegations of

from predator priests. >> and we know that the cardinal could spend the rest of his life behind bars. >> reporter: that's right. each of the five charges apparently carries a potential sentence of ten years, and adds up to 50 years. of course he's 77 years old. his sentencing hearing begins tomorrow but pell's lawyers have already started an appeal in the hopes of getting a retrial. and now he still retains the title of cardinal. robin? now to the crisis and chaos in venezuela and the first american interview in years with president nicolas maduro. our chief national correspondent tom llamas sat down with the embattled president right after maduro's forces engaged in deadly clashes with prosecutors and right before jorge ramos was detained. tom joins us with the latest. >> reporter: george, good morning. ramos says he was detained and released after he asked tough questions that maduro found offense.weawmef angeises filng

hundreants to sit down and meet with president trump. this morning, embattled venezuelan leader nicolas maduro digging in, facing a challenge to his role by juan guaido. border clashes and widespread protests. this, as president trump has called for him to step aside. but now in a rare interview, maduro revealing to abc news who he's really afraid of inside the white house. do you fear president trump? maduro telling me, he doesn't fear the president but he fears those around him like national security adviser john bolton and secretary of state mike pompeo who he says are itching for war and only care about venezuela for its oil. if he was standing in this room right in front of you, what would your message be to him? the venezuelan leader says

he wants to sit down with and start a dialogue, but the sm >> maduro is not a venezuelan patriot. he is a cuban puppet. >> reporter: juan guaido, the man the u.s. and more than 50 other countries now recognize as the interim president, met with vice president mike pence on monday in colombia following violent clashes on the border. when guaido supporters and other venezuelans desperate for help tried bringing in truckloads of u.s. aid, aid maduro refused to let into his country. trucks full of supplied, destroyed. as venezuelans were clashing with the national guard, aid trucks were set on fire. you were salsa dancing on tv. why? maduro dismissing the bizarre public spectacle saying, it was all normal, and growing angry when i asked about human rights abuses in venezuela. why are people who protest you end up either dead or in jail?

maduro calling me a liar saying i, quote, but i told him a united nations report says his regime is responsible for killing more than 500 people who have opposed his government. i also asked maduro with more than 50 countries calling him illegitimate, his people sick and starving, and his u.s. oil assets frozen if this was checkmate. he said far from it. robin, we have to remember here in venezuela whoever controls the military controls the country. and right now that's nicolas maduro. robin? >> a lot of evidence behind the questions tom was asking right there. >> absolutely, you're right about that. now the latest on r. kelly out of jail this morning after finally making bail while he faces those sexual assault charges. linsey davis is in chicago with more. good morning, linsey. >> reporter: good morning, robin. after spending those three nights behind bars, in the end it was not robert kelly who came up with the bond money. according to "the chicago

tribune," a 47-year-old woman from the suburbs of chicago who came up with the $100,000, identifying herself on the bond slip simply as a friend. this morning, r. kelly is out of jail after three nights behind bars. the embattled singer seen leaving court monday evening, making his way through the hoard of media after pulling together the $100,000 needed for bail. the singer made his first stop at this local mcdonald's. his hood pulled up wearing sunglasses, later visiting a chicago cigar bar. his first taste of freedom after appearing before a chicago judge monday morning in an orange jumpsuit, pleading not guilty to ten counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault charges. kelly could be facing decades behind bars. his estranged brother telling me he now fears for the artist's safety. >> i know that robert's mental capability is not jail. if he goes to jail, he needs to be watched -- i would like to see him get help. >> reporter: kelly is accused of assaulting four alleged victims

between 1998 and 2010, three of whom were said to be under age. attorney michael avenatti says he now represents two kelly accusers and handed over a secondid to prosecutors monday claiming the 55-minute tape shows kelly sexually assaulting the 14-year-old victim included in the indictment. potential evidence kelly's attorney is looking to discredit. >> i have no reason to believe that there is any tape of mr. kelly acting inappropriately in relation to these cases. >> reporter: all of this comes on the heels of that explosive lifetime docu-series "surviving r. kelly." >> no matter how demeaning it felt or seemed, you had to always just play along with it. >> reporter: where some of the women claim the singer used his fame to control and abuse them. claims he vehemently denies. he is due in family court on march 6th to deal with back child support and he's due back in criminal court on march 22nd.

carpet for actress selma blair, known for her roles in cult classics like "cruel intentions," "legally blonde" and "the sweetest thing." selma revealing her multiple sclerosis diagnosis last october. the 46-year-old attending sunday night's "vanity fair" oscar party with the support of her customized cane. >> how can we make canes chic? mine is, in fact, patent leather. real pink diamond. >> i spent time with selma at her home, just days before her big night out. how are you doing? >> i am doing very well. i am very happy to see you being able to just put out what being in the middle of an aggressive form of multiple sclerosis is like. so my speech is, you'll notice, i have spasmodic dysphonia right now. >> reporter: m.s. is a chronic, often unpredictable disease of

the central nervous system, which is made up of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. it causes problems with vision, balance and muscle control. >> wouldn't it be funny if i fell in? for real. not really. it's interesting to be put it out there to be here and say, this is what my particular case looks like right now. >> let's go back. when you were first diagnosed, what initially went through your mind? >> i cried. i had tears. i wasn't -- they weren't tears of panic. they were tears of knowing i now had to give in to a body that had loss of control. and there was some relief in that, because ever since my son was born, i was in an m.s. flare-up and didn't know. and i was giving it everything to seem normal. and i was self-medicating when he wasn't with me and i was drinking, i was in pain.

i wasn't always drinking, but there were times when i couldn't take it. and i was really struggling with how am i going to get by in life? and not taken seriously by doctors. just single mother, you're exhausted, financial burden, blah, blah, blah, and i even got to the point i said i need to go to work and i have to stay awake. i dropped my son off at school a mile away, and before i got home, i would have to pull over and take a nap. and i was ashamed. and i was doing the best i could. and i was a great mother. but it was killing me. and so when i got the diagnosis, i cried with some relief, like, oh, good, i'll be able to do something. >> reporter: struggling with symptoms for years prior to her diagnosis, selma sought out the help of fellow actor michael j. fox who has lived with parkinson's disease for nearly 30 years. >> and i said, i don't know who to tell, but i'm dropping things. i'm doing strange things. he got in touch with me and we

began a conversation. so he really helped me, plus i was like -- i have michael j. fox's e-mail now. like, i'm pretty cool. like, i'm cooler than i thought. but really, he gives me hope. >> how difficult was it difficult to share with your son? >> not at all. i always want him to feel safe, never responsible for me. but he had already seen that i was falling and doing things. and i was always laughing. and he'd imitate me. and i would be like, that's fine, but don't do that out of the house. people will think you're a jerk, so i did have to tell him after the mri. i said i have to tell you that i have something called multiple sclerosis. and he almost cried and said will it kill you? and i said, no, i mean, we never know what kills us but this is not the doctor telling me i'm dying. he was like, oh, okay. >> what gets you through those difficult days? >> i get in bed and don't move.

you just have to. and say, i got to -- and my son gets it. and now i've learned not to feel guty >> what are doctors telling you? what is your prognosis? >> the doctor i saw he said within a year i could have at the time he said, 90% of my abilities back. so this is -- this is to say let's meet again next year and see if i'm better. if i'm not and i can still have a conversation, that's good enough, and i want to see. i want to see for other people and i want to see for me and see where i am. i was a little scared of talking. and even my neurologist said no, this will bring a lot of awareness. because no one has the energy to talk when they're in a flare-up camera.

>> you got a date. i'll see you in a year. >> okay, okay. i can't wait.mesh iredible. >> what an example she is setting for her son but also for everyone in the way she's telling her story. >> when i told people i was going to be doing -- and believe me, these are just tears of joy for her to be able to share her story. and she has. and she has touched a lot of people. and you have to know that m.s. is unique. the symptoms present themselves differently in different people and she's finding inspiration from her experience and she even wants to -- she's really proud of her blinged out cane. and she also designing some of her clothes. because she's unable to button. so she wants to -- she's appreciative of the clothing out there, but it's not cool enough for selma blair and for otrs ah

to morocco was action packed as the royal couple set out to raise awareness about several causes dear to them. first stop, a girls' boardinghouse high in the atlas mountains where the duke and duchess met young girls who can access education thanks to a british organization and they showed off french as they chatted to the girls and meghan had her hands painted in henna that aims to bring traditional luck to the baby. and then she wore dior and diamonds for a glitzy reception at the ambassador's residence. the final day of the trip started with a riding stable to see equine therapy for children and then attended a cooking case and they tried all sorts of moroccan cuisine and meghan gave the chef a copy of her cookbook together. later, the couple looked at arts and crafts and ended with an audience with the moroccan king. they have a chance to catch

long lens shot. it's exhausting, it is. it's a ton of fun. you know, i try to do as many of o stuntas possiblbu have a great stunt team in prague, but when i'm not able to jump off a bridge for production reasons, there's a guy. he's going to jump off the bridge for me and look like me. it's good, but i spent a lot of my time in ice packs at home with packs around my knees. it's tough. >> looking forward to an upcoming episode with bellamy young. >> yes, from "scandal." >> yes, the first lady. >> i got really lucky. she happened to be -- she happened to be taking a trip in europe when we were casting the role. and she was staying at my house in prague. and the producers called me and said, would bellamy maybe want to do an episode? and i asked her. we were out to dinner and she said, yes, oh, my god. you know bellamy is so crazy. and she stayed for a couple of weeks and shot the episode. it was amazing and a great transition from leaving my "scandal" family and having her

discovery for four women learning that their similar looks were far more than just a coincidence. they're going to join us live in a moment. but first, here's their story. this is the photo nearly 50 years in the making. in the 1960s in seattle, washington, twins rochelle dyer and kristelle harrington grew up happy and healthy. adopted by loving parents when their birth mother couldn't take care of them. across the country in virginia beach, sisters lisa vann and shannon nicoll were born a few years after those twins and never suspected their family might be bigger than they thought. in 2004, in perhaps a divine twist of fate, rochelle moved to virginia beach herself, bizarrely enough becoming friends with women who knew shannon. everyone commenting on how the two looked alike. shannon and rochelle meeting once, posing for this photo together at a kenny chesney concert, but never thinking

their similarities might be anything but a coincidence. until last year, when rochelle took an ancestry.com test to look into her ethnicity and discovered dna matches. she made contact with a first cousin named tracy who gives her shocking but amazing news. she and her sister kristelle have two half-sisters, shannon and her sister, lisa. which brings us back to this photo. the four all meeting for the first time just 11 days ago. [ cheers and applause ] rochelle, kristelle, shannon, and lisa are joining us now. and you know what i love? you were grabbing the tissues already. getting ready to let it go. and as we heard in the piece, rochelle and kristelle, you both grew up in seattle. and lisa and shannon, you grew up in virginia beach. >> yes.

>> where rochelle, you now live. >> yes. >> in virginia beach and after all these years, there's no way you saw this coming. >> oh, no. >> not in a million years. >> you couldn't make it up. >> even when they said we looked alike, i just thought, you know, everybody has a twin out there so -- >> well, you do. [ laughter ] >> you actually do. >> and lisa and i had no idea at all that our mother had even given birth to twins in the past. >> she took the secret to her grave. >> and they knew that they were adopted all these years. so for us, it was pretty mind-blowing. so it wouldn't even have crossed our minds that we were really sisters. >> we knew we probably had siblings somewhere. >> you met less than two weeks ago, all four of you together so how was that first initial meeting with all four? >> amazing. >> amazing. >> like this. >> like we're together. yeah. now we haven't skipped a beat. >> no, we haven't. >> so what similarities do you notice? >> oh, our laughs. >> our laugh -- our kids -- my kids when we were at dinner and rochelle and i started laughing they both like put their hands over their mouths and were looking at each other. and, like, everybody thinks

that everybody looks like somebody, but li m so when i see her, it makes me think of her. >> go ahead. i'm sorry. >> her kids stared at me the >> they couldn't believe how much i looked like their grandmother and their mom and sadly she passed away a year and a half ago. so we didn't get to meet her. >> she never had a chance to see this reunion. >> well, she sees us. >> without a doubt. >> yeah. >> i know shannon and rochelle, you two met ten years ago. a friend said, oh, you look alike. and you were going to a kenny chesney concert. you took at the picture that we saw in the piece. what goes through your mind now knowing that you were sisters and didn't know it back then? >> i mean, we would have done things a little bit differently. >> it explains so much. >> it explains a lot. but the crazy thing was that the two friends that kept telling her that we looked alike were my childhood best friends. >> and i grew up across the -- lisa and i grew up across the

street from them. and so, here she is -- and i did my student teaching at the school where she teaches. but we weren't there at the same time. >> and, she just got remarried this summer where in washington state where i live and -- >> the best friends were there for the wedding and they were liking all the photos on facebook. what a pretty bride. >> they were liking them, oh, isn't that a pretty wedding? >> pretty bride. >> what a pretty bride. [ applause ] what a pretty bride. she looks like me. >> right? >> even though you guys you really have all just been together all four of you within the last two weeks, you can tell there is love here. but this, you know, a lot of emotions come with this. but it seems like complete love here. >> we've known each other forever. >> that's what it feels like. >> last night we were at dinner and we all started laughing. i just looked at everyone, i said three weeks ago we didn't even know you existed. we didn't know you and now look at us. >> you're lucky to get a word in edgewise. >> i kind of like it. makes my job easy.

[ applause ] so where do you go from here? what's in the future because you have kids and, you know, a lot of familiarity to bring together. >> holidays will be different. >> for us. with losing mom recently. she was thanksgiving. she was christmas. she was all of those things and made it everything. so there's been that void there. but now we feel like we have a piece of her. >> i may need a tissue in a second. you keep this up. >> yeah. >> it's hard with one of us being so far away. >> and we have our family that we grew up with, you know, and we have two younger brothers and -- >> which is such a great part of the story because to know that they had a good life. >> oh, we did. >> it is a great story. it's great to have the four of you here. we wish you continued love and everything for your family. >> thank you. >> thank you. > thank you for sharing this with us. >> thank you. >> really, really appreciate it. >> all right.
